Just recently these started shipping with only 1 10 round mag. Good luck, you can't even get these from Century any more or any where else for that matter. Sad to see a $10 magazine stop the sell of a $549 rifle.

M14 or .308 Gallil mags can be used with minimal modification, if I recall correctly. Additionally, US made mags for this rifle are in the pipeline this year. I plan on buying one later in the year to supplement my 7.62x39 RPK & AKMs but I'll be using 20 round mags for sure!

Budsgunshop if you "make an offer" will take $550 (rejected $545, you might try between those two since you have 5 tries) as of this morning.

Are these black stocks original? If not, I wish they would keep the wooden stocks on them.

This is the actual factory stock. Includes an inch thick recoil pad, palm swell on grip for right handed shooter, but you could work the swell down for a lefty.
I thought at first I would replace it, as some others have with a folder(go to some AK forums), then thought I'd camo it, but for now I just left it. it is very strong, much more so than wood, albeit historically not as aesthetically pleasing. The rifle balances nicely. It does not come with a cleaning rod although it has the catch under the barrel and the hole in the lower forearm. I have an extra 91/30 rod I'm going to shorten and tap to U.S. cleaning tip thread when ever I get in the mood, for now I just use a 30cal M1A1surplus pulthru.
These rifles are factory test fired and sighted in as the front sight is staked, so I cleaned mine real good although it was not filthy(it had been cleaned). I was surprised that they go to that detail as that is usually reserved for a military spec/use rifle certainly regular sporting rifles are inspected, but not test fired for function/accuracy within spec, etc.
They should include 2 mags, some even included 3. I would look around as the mags run just under 30$ if you can find them, but other mags are very easily converted with a small file, again just check AK forums for images and procedure.
The PAP M90 is same rifle with slightly heavier barrel, but I think the M77 one is plenty heavy enough, just so you know when checking mag conversions as the mag is same.

Did you try to tune the gas relief dial to your ammo?
Also go to Pachmayr they are having a close-out of a few pad, these guys make the very best pads in the world, don't get hard in cold, normally about 40$, now 10$ on a couple of models marked as "green color", but actually when received are closer to dark gray, BIG difference from the Zastava solid rubber pad, check bottom of page.: http://www.pachmayr.com/home/D752B.php...

Meh.

Wish it was square straight back receiver.. I would swap stocks and make this thing look like a Iraqi Tabuk Sniper:

i just wish that they would ship like everyone else with two mags. You can use galil 308 mags in this rifle with a little mod to the mags they fit great and are way better than the one that comes with it

So is the caliber 7.62 X 39 or .308?

308 just looks like the version that they have in 7.62/39

'Manufactured in yugoslavia' .... Really? Interesting.

This is a decent price on this gun. They were 499 elsewhere plus shipping a week or so ago

The adjustable gas system is cool

Word is they wont be making these any longer, but thats pretty much the same rumor ive heard for every comblok gun in the past five years

Well Yugoslavia doesn't exist anymore as a whole, hence Serbia I believe is the biggest player, their money is not worth as much as it should be causing their items to be extremely competitive against our $. Remember Kosovo? Slobodan Milošević? and Nato? Wars there? Not sure if there are some more small sovereign countries from the break up. would have to check it out if interested.

Old Yugo has been defunct for some 20 years now, this rifle was built in Serbia. It would be great if there were 20 round magazines available. A simple mag well opening and some American parts to make it 922r compliant would make this a great battle rifle.

Go to the AKForum search for M90mag conversion. The M90 is heavy barrel M77.
Details and images to convert cheap($15) M1A/M14 20rd mags to this rifle, all you need is a file. Other mags too. or google "convert M1A mag to M90 mag"
Piece of cake to remove light front spot welded nut. Uses 14/1LH.
Other conversions to change to folder stock, etc., on Forum.
You're right these are very well made to mil spec, each is test fired and sighted in at factory.
A couple of places have already gone up to +750$ that where in the 550-600 range, so the rumors may be correct.

These have a 14/1LH @ muzzle after you remove the lightly welded cap.
10rd double stack Mag was avail for 28$, but sold out for now.
M1A1 20rd Mag for about 15$ at sportsmansguide w/free ship until Monday using code SH1493 are an easy mod.
These rifles are manufactured like Mil Spec and test fired at factory for function/accuracy/sighted in.
Forget the cleaning rod, that's not going to happen. A 30cal pull thru is better anyway.
Cheaperthandirt sells this with 2 mags and no CC fee.
Yes you can put a folding stock on this w/Yugo adapter, sign up to some of the AK Forums to get the details.
These are very well made all Serbian designed for 308, not redo's like the cut in half surplus Yugo's in 7.62x39.
Real nice factory trigger with a little take up then breaks like glass. I added a Tabuk DragunovTiger style muzzle brake. Balances great. You can dial adjust the gas for your ammo/recoil.
Use Russian Sniper trained Mag Hold for max accuracy, holding any AK under forearm causes upward pressure on barrel, messin' with it's harmonics.

The comments noted below to the PAP rifles do not apply to the .308.
These rifles are manufactured to mil spec, including test fired 100% at the factory in Serbia for function and accuracy requirements like all military rifles are(I know this for a fact as I needed to clean the copper fouling from the barrel better before breaking it in & the front sight is marked to the base so it was sighted in). These are beefed-up receiver factory designed for the 7.62NATO round using factory designed double stack mag. Yugo has been making guns since the days of the first Cannons, their Mauser 8mm bolt action is famous, so are their 8mm AK EuroSnipers. These are not surplus reworked by Century Arms with iffy barrels or receivers and not to be confused with those 7.62x39 rifles which came in cut in half.
These rifles are new factory with adjustable gas port to tune the rifle to your ammo/recoil.
I've been messin' with guns all my life, God know how many hundreds have gone thru my hands in over 50 years, I bought one of these after taking a close look at the AR10's (excellent rifles overall),the Vepr good gun too, But the Vepr isn't test fired at the factory, built more like a commercial gun including the propaganda.
It was a close call and may get something else later, but for now, this AK I will trust my life to, it's that good.
To get max accuracy out of any AK the Russian Snipers are taught to hold @ the Mag, not under forearm as that puts upper stress against barrel and messes with the harmonics.
A Russian POSP scope fit like a glove, A little take up and the trigger breaks like glass and it's not broken in yet. A Tabuk DragunovTiger muzzle brake 14/1LH completed the shooting aspect. I'll camo the stock in the spring, it is so solid and ergonomic good fit, for the $ I'll leave it alone.
I noticed after getting mine(of course), one retailer offers 3 mags, most offer 2 mags w/rifle, mags where avail for 28$ but seem sold out for now, I just got paid and was gonna get a couple more, but more will be in, you can probably get direct from Serbia if you dog it right as Mags don't require FFL. The M1A1 with minor mod also works, I'll try a couple 20rounders @15$ea and mod them, that aughta do it.
The Hogs in Tenn are sausage at my table this year! Happy New YEAR Guys!

Care to elaborate a little? I've purchased from them (lowers) and the purchase was a bit awkward due to my email's and this was at the height of the sandy hook craziness. In the end everything was fine with my purchase.

Are larger capacity mags available and how expensive or hard to obtain are they?

0 votes

Officially 20 is the max for the mags built for the M77 and they can be pricey depending on the direction of the wind. M1A1/AR10 mags are very easily modified and can be had from 30rnds all the way up to 50rnd drums.

Anybody else wondering why they couldn't make this with a square back? Any way to get a folding stock on this without welding?

I think this is a standalone good deal if you don't plan to modify it. Otherwise I think the deal at centerfire for the vepr is much more appealing. http://centerfiresystems.com/vsb308-20-02.aspx... Square back $599 20 inch 308. You can get csspec mags for them, and put furniture for regular aks.

Looks like the m77 has a slanted brake installed where as the vepr has a threaded barrel which can have one installed. So that's another thing to think about.

also, the adjustable gas port on the M77 is a bonus.

.308.308.308.308.308.308.308.308

Everything I have that is stamped from Zastava runs like a top and is built tight, not overly tight where it becomes picky, but NOTHING is sloppy as in some AK's.

I have other YUGO's so I leaned this way instead of a VEPR. Maybe the VEPR is as good or better (I do not own a VEPR) but at $599 with 3x Ten round mags this M77 seems like a deal.
I think with a larger caliber like .308, 3x Ten rounders is o.k. to start out with at the range.

I suspect a VEPR or this M77 will both chew up the less expensive steel cased .308 and would make a good back woods or bench gun.

Cool to have another option out on the market other then the VEPR!

Centerfire has the .308 Veprs for only $30 more. Those are better rifles: better fit and finish, chrome-lined innards, more mag choices, etc.

More than 30.. they charge more for shipping + 3% for credit cards. Although I agree the Veprs are better.

Great price! .308 AK!!!!

I can't wait to burn some steel cased .308 through this to justify buying steel cased .308 in the first place.......
Looks like a deal to me.
Thanks JOHNB for posting this!

i have....have you?
CAI screwed it up and has been in their shop for over 8 months now, they screwed up the conversion from single stack to double stack and i have been unable to use this rifle for close to a year now including my time and money trying to sort it out on my own, on some of them simply swapping out the bolt isn't enough as after some research i tried that, Fail.....

some of them work, some of them don't, i won't tell you what to do as it's your money to gamble with if you see fit, i just know I'm avoiding this model of AK indefinitely after my previous experience....i'm still waiting for the rifle to come back so i can get a refund.
read this and pray you don't get one of the so called 5%

from my link i posted
"We were not the first in the industry to receive these rifles and by the time ours arrived we had already heard of some of these rifles that were having feed issues. As such, we determined that we would at least hand feed several rounds through each rifle before we allowed them to ship.

Let’s face it, no one likes returns and we were determined that if there were some problem rifles we did not want them leaving the building…

Here is what we found. As we expected, most rifle feed flawlessly…
At least 9 out of 10, and really about 95% were smooth as silk out of the box and we simply could not make them jam or mis-feed either through hand cycling rounds in and out of the chamber or through live fire.

As for the other 5 % - Every now and then we are coming across a rifle that has failure to feed issues. The problem is quickly identifiable as it will typically happen within the first couple of rounds. When we come across one of these rifles it is rejected for return to the importer and taken out of our shipping stock. In truth the culprit in every case has been a very easy fix that regards relieving just a little metal from the rear corner of the front trunion on the problem rifle. I would not even call this a bad rifle, just a rifle that didn’t get checked out closely enough and get final tweaked properly before leaving quality control at the importer.

Unfortunately, in this day of such high demand, poor quality control is all too common, and the worst part is, the fix is easy if you know what to do, it will make the rifle run flawlessly, and it is totally imperceptible on the rifle. But that is a separate issue for a gunsmithing column."

not something that can be fixed without some machining, also due to the slanted rear receiver you cannot find other stocks for it if the thumb hole bothers you, personally i'd suggest not risking becoming one of the 5% and go another route.....i'm done with my input on this thread... just thought i needed to share my personal experience with this particular rifle.

Thank you for your input. I appreciate it. I am going to just stick with my sks not an AK but zero problems. Thanks again.

hey an ak is an excellent weapon, I'm just saying this particular model is not on par with the rest of them due to some problems from the importer configuring them for the us market, i'd suggest saving an extra $100 and buying one of the other many good ones out there, i have an sks as well and love it but also like my AK's as well, nothing wrong with either platform, the AK is the next evolution of the SKS, i'd strongly suggest you pick one up when you can afford one, just not happy with the keyhole stocked PAP model.

Planned on buying it then saw the BS 10 round mag. No thanks.. Start shipping them with a REASONABLE magazine capacity (20-30 rounds) and I will buy one. Save those 10 round mags for customers that live in Nazi states like CA, MA, NY, Cook County IL, etc...

Yeah, that's the Bush AWB from the 80s that prevents guns in original configs. from coming in. You can buy this gun, put some American parts on it and open up the magwell to take 20 rounds mags if you like tho.

0 votes
0 votes

They come with a 10 round mag because that's what they have to be imported with.

It seems some people are unaware that there is an import AWB for long guns. Why do you think these also come with a slant cut receiver and a thumbhole stock?

Even if you live in a "free" state you still have to put up with the atrocious import restriction. The HK USC and SL8 likewise were in similar configurations so that ATF wouldn't rule them "unsporting" and other HK long guns, like HK94, HK93 or HK91, were prohibited from importation because ATF deemed them as "unsporting."

Your right, i was not aware of this. I left the states on 17 Dec 2003 and just returned last summer. I am constantly shocked at the rights we have lost and am constantly in shock over how our elected officials have sold our country's future with all these free trade acts.
I guess its ok to import electronics, oil, textiles, shoes, etd ad infinitum, but not firearms. Well not firearms that previously American companies like Springfield, Winchester, and others that used to actually manufacture arms and provide jobs for Americans but now have those guns made in places like Croatia and Turkey to save money. Of course the US is still their #1 customer.
Damn those lawmakers to hell, i hope they burn for what they have done to this country and to the rights of its citizens.

I am actually pretty liberal in a lot of believes, but to be honest I have to agree with you. I am constantly amazed at how willing people are willing to give up their rights so they can have some allusion of safety. Thanks god I live in Oklahoma were the state is determined to protect our gun rights.
