Nicili,
Is your savage an SR model and HSP stock version?
No it is not. Just cheap AccuStock from Savage. It scratches easily but does the job. Even when barrel is warm and rifle is on sandbags I do free-floating dollar bill test and it passes. I heard these stocks can bend easily when rifle is warm mine works fine. It really likes 168 or 175gr ammo. 10-rounds at 300 yards they all go in 2 inch circle, and I am pretty average shooter. For example same day same target 10 rounds with Armalite 3-gun AR with 18 inch free floated mid weight SS barrel and Timney 3lb competition trigger + Black Hills 77gr OTM, will go in 3.5 inch circle at 300 yards.
600 yards is longest range I have but I never took time to test accuracy properly (I can see grouping is excellent). Need better spotting scope (working on that).
Wonder how these compare to the Ruger precision rifle? This is a few hundred dollars cheaper so this may be worth a look...
I was looking into buying this rifle. I like the company but their barrels are so thin compared to other manufacturers. So if you want to do any prolonged shooting you will suffer accuracy loss as the barrel heats up. Barrel description given in this ad is not accurate. Barrel profile #3 IS NOT heavy barrel. If you look into barrel profiles, profile #3 is medium sporter (http://www.bruxbarrels.com/gpage1.html...) with 0.68 inch thick close to the muzzle.
I ended up buying cheap Savage 10 with heavy fluted and free floated 24 inch barrel. Extremely accurate rifle. I pushed it to 600 yards and results are simply amazing. Shooting it at 300 yards or less is not even fun how accurate it is. And barrel does not heat that quickly while fluting helps cool it down faster.
Livin',
Here's a 6.5 RPR for $71 more than this Weatherby. Problem solved. Enjoy...I love my RPR....so will you.
