"WWGAL"
And I'd also suggest a good training class prior to purchasing a firearm. A gun in an untrained hand is more dangerous then not having one in the first place. I applaud you for wanting to take your safety into your own hands however.

As a loooong time Walther fan and owner of many of their firearms, as much as I might not want to admit it, you made the right choice with the VP9 (Albiet a copycat of the Walther PPQ).

The 99 "was" a great gun, back in the late 90's when it hit the civilian markets finally. However, the VP9 (PPQ) blow it away in so many regards, save one, the grip. To date, the 99 is the most in-hand comfortable gun I have ever felt and has been since I first shot one in 2000. Yeah, 16 years ago.

The 99 has a grip/frame (styling) that seems to have been copied in one way or another by more gun companies than I know anymore. Hell it even has a strong following in airsoft, or so I'm told.

The P99 is made in Germany. I have one, inherited it actually, a fist gen with the 2nd Gen trigger. It's the slickest 9mm I've ever handled or shot. I think I'd trust Walther quality long before I'd trust Canik's.

Thanks i1uluz for the information. So according to you, the trigger pull weights from the description are not correct for this model?

On a side note I do own the TP9SA with the oh so controversial top slide mounted decocker button. It has not bothered me for one second. I really like the gun, it fits my hand great, has an excellent trigger and has proven very accurate and reliable so far. If you know your firearm and how to handle it, I can't see the decocker ever being an issue, but of course I have not had to use it in a high stress situation...nor will I probably ever carry it as a ccw or self defense weapon. It is so funny how some people freaked out about it, as if they are going to carry a $320 gun as a edc duty weapon to trust their life to.

I like the idea of this walther having parts inter-change ability with the Canik, if that is true. If I had known that a month ago I might have looked into this model instead of the H&K VP9 LE that I purchased, but to be honest I probably would have chose the HK anyway. The base model was recently on sale for only $10 more than this walther listing.

Hmm, never heard of this "traditional double action anti-stress trigger" wording before. Anyone feel like enlightening me? Pull weights seem to be standard, is there just less travel, creep, etc? Or are they just talking about the ergonomics of the physical trigger itself?

Also aren't all rails "custom" in the sense that you can mount whatever "custom" accessories you want on it? Is this just wordy writing or is there anything special or enhanced about this gun?

All I know is that the description is completely turning me off from even wanting to research any further into it myself... whoever they paid to write this should be fired IMO.

It's the same exact trigger that Canik uses in their TP9V2 model. If you chamber a round then use the only on one side decocker*, left side of slide, it will go into full DA, about 6lb pull. If you do not decock it you can pull the trigger back, it will stay about 1/2 back, it will act like a SA with around 3lb pull, and each shot after that is SA. If you have a round that fails to go off you have a second strike with this trigger.

P99 has been around a rather long time, Canik purchased the rights from Walther, Desert Research and I think S&W did also, I suspect they make parts for each other. My Canik TP9V2 has a Walther PPQ M2 Navy threaded barrel in it. Slides will interchange and function they are so closely related.

Walther has the BEST factory trigger in a semi pistol, bar none.

* If you press the decocker, with 8lbs of downward pressure and decock the pistol, Christ will not appear nor will the world end. It just goes into DA, also you can use it to disassemble it vice pulling the trigger so no chance of OOOOPS, I thought it was unloaded, I need to change my not so whitey tighties that are full of warm brown stuff.

New to guns, would this be a good home defense gun? I am a woman, have only shot one gun at a range. I don't want a small gun want a full size. No kids in the home. I do not know about all the things you are talking about, would you recommend this gun?

I'll give you the same advice I give anyone. Go to a range that has the gun you are interested in available to rent and put at least a box of target ammo through it. The return policy on firearms doesn't tend to be customer-friendly at most shops, so you're better off finding out that you hate the way a gun handles before you plunk a few hundred down on it.
