  • Have 3 of these DRT etched reticle. Battery dies and you're still able to stay in the game. Glass is clear, can go really fast with the wide range of view.

  • These are great for those of us with astigmatism in lieu of a red dot or holographic sight.

Tbh after buying this I don't think I'll be going back to regular red dots. 1. If you have an astigmatism prism sights don't bloom or become distorted since you can adjust the optic to your eye. 2. Prism sights have an etched reticle so if that battery dies unlike a red dot it doesn't turn into a paper weight and IMO negates having back up sights since you have an etched reticle and not a projected reticle like a Red dot.

Does this have a magnification? I was looking at the Romeo 5 as other option. I’m not sure if 1x meant magnify or regular

No. 1x means no magnification. You may notice a very slight magnification at close range depending on how the diopter is adjusted for your eye, but it's inconsequential.

About the only downsides to this optic are only 1 MOA adjustment, and no BDC. The lack of BDC isn't a big deal though if you use the Santose zero.

The magnification is barely noticeable but it's nothing insane.

This is a great price for a nice 1x prism scope. I have one of these on a QTD mount.. The center dot on mine is quite small. Illumination is not quite enough for bright daylight use, but you don't need it in bright daylight anyway.

Got mine in the mail today. $164.99 shipped. Hopefully it will be what I wanted. After a little reading it looks like it should be a good item for the money. Going on a stock S&W sport II.

I got what I thought was a good deal a few months back for 199.99 shipped. If you have aging eyes where one day you wake up and can't focus on your red dots or front sights anymore, or never could focus your red dot, this could be your answer. I'm in for another one at this price. Great deal. It made shooting fun again for me.

Huge difference for those of us with Astigmatism.

I've got a passel of Aimpoint PROs, ML3, ML2, and a few Eotechs. I had to stop using my Eotechs first because the horde of little dots turned into a horde of little flares as I started progressing into age-related astigmatism. (Not that my wife minds, since she prefers the Eotechs to Aimpoints, so she got the 'extra' one off my rifle...which went on her SBR)

Later the nice, sharp 2MOA dots in my aimpoints started to 'flare' as well, not as bad, but certainly noticeable. Unfortunately, it gets a little bit worse each year.

I had read another article that stated that these non-magnified prism sights would work well for those with astigmatism, so I picked one up on clearance to try it out. I was VERY pleased to find that there were no issues at all with flaring when using the prism sight. As an additional plus, even when not powered (or out of batteries) the reticle is still usable.

The only downsides that I can see are:

    • The included mount is serviceable, but not great.
    • 1X is not really "1x"...there is a slight bit of magnification that makes using your back up iron sight unusable as a 'shoot through' option.
    • While it does come with Vortex's no-questions-asked lifetime run over it with a truck warranty, I am more concerned about field durability. Haven't had any issues with the two I now own thus far, but they haven't been run through the ringer yet.

While I am not yet ready to replace all my Aimpoints with these, they have been reliable and useful thus far. For now my Aimpoints stay on my family's GooD rifles, and these get worked out on range trips and on my loaners (loaners get a bit more beat up).

I agree with your entire post. You made some great points. My second one is being delivered tomorrow from Midway. My first one is holding up good so far, have around 1500 rounds on it and the mount hasn't budged yet and still zeroed.

Best deal seen on these since last Black Friday. This is the "older" version but still very good. American Defense Mfg makes a QD mount that fits this version.

I've got two of these on deep dicount sales (PSA's clearance and DVOR with 'free money' and coupon) and this is right in line with those prices.

    In for another one.

If you have astigmatism (or you are starting to get age-related astigmatism), and your once-crisp Red Dot sight is starting to look more like a 'Red Comet' sight, this is a good option if you want to continue to use a non-magnified RDS-type optic, yet want a clear, crisp 'dot'.

I have more than a handful of Aimpoint ML3s, ML2s, and PROs and, unfortunately, age and its relentless march toward entropy have started a campaign of age-related astigmatism which is turning my once-loved red dots into long-tailed blurs (had to stop using my Eotechs several years ago as it was even more pronounced with the 'lots of dots' approach Eotech uses).

I picked up one of these a bit back to try it out based on a recommendation of playing well with astigmatism. They were absolutely right. Crisp, clear dot. No tails or blurs.

The only draw-back is you cannot use BUIS 'through' the optic. It is not truly non-magnified. It is about 1.1x and that makes the use of BUIS through the optics a no-go for any real accuracy.

Finally, while Vortex does have their 'run it over with a truck and we will replace it' lifetime warranty, I'd prefer something as robust as my Aimpoints, but no one is making one in a reasonable price range (Aimpoint ML or PRO range). It is a good stand-in for a range gun, but I'll have a bit more abuse to see how it holds up to bumps and bangs before it would find a home on my SHTF carbine.

Price-wise, Midway's $200 shipped is decent. Lowest I saw was through PSA about a year ago on clearance ($158 shipped), but that is gone and not to return now. DVOR had about $170 shipped, but only if you had one of their $25 off coupons. So this is decent, overall.

That said, for $249 you can grab the newer Vortex Spitfire-AR which uses a AAA battery in the under-mount.

Thank you for that feedback. I saw a better deal through Primary Arms a while back too, but that's not coming back anytime soon.

Aimpoint Pro is worth the extra $60 in this man's opinion

your comparing apples to oranges. This is a 1x prism sight not a 1x red dot. The prism sights are easier for people that have eye issues to use compared to a red dot.
