I would be more worried about a cheap knife listing specs the price doesn't support than one that doesn't mention anything at all. It's a $10 knife for God's sake. Do you get angry at Taco Bell for glazing over if their beef is Angus or not?
Yeah, that bothers me, too. I don't think wanting to know what kind of steel a knife is made out of is asking too much. It makes a huge difference and can mean the difference between a good, budget knife and utter cr@p.
Sportsman's Guide rip off REFUSED to sell a rifle in a completely Lawful transaction with an FFL. The DOJ/ATF is using LOAs ( Letters of Authorization) for FFLs, while the ATF gets caught up on their backlogs for FFL renewals. Sportsman's Guide REFUSES to acknowledge a perfectly lawful sale, authorized by the DOJ/ATF!?! They ARE the next Dick's Sporting Goods in the anti-2A retail scum.
So your FFL's license was expired and Sportsman's Guide didn't want to risk violating federal law based on your word about some back log of renewals? I am betting your chosen FFL fed you this line because they waited too long to send in their paperwork.
Regardless, why didn't you pick a different FFL? That is what a grown-up would have done.
If retailers and manufacturers don't openly list the exact kind of knife steel used in their products they sell then I have to assume it's something they are ashamed of. Generic terms like "stainless steel," "surgical steel" or "high carbon steel" alone doesn't cut the mustard, so I assume your crummy knife won't either. Be honest! I don't mind inexpensive steel in a budget priced knife, but tell me so I can make the decision. Dare I even ask for an HRC rating? Have some respect for the folks helping you earn a living, please.
