Looks very nice as a Jack of all trades gun. 35 oz. is fairly heavy for a carry gun. I like the idea of a 3" revolver for carry, but an aluminum frame option would be nice. Ruger's 3" LCR is a champ.

Good news Vrock. The above description is incorrect. Taurus USA shows the weight is actually 23.52 oz. and they also make an Ultra-Lite model that is only 17.36 oz. model #2-85639ULNS.

Hey, that scratches the itch! Thanks for the info.

I'm happy to see Taurus add this 3" barrel model to their 856 line. The Hogue grip, and the added barrel length does give it a larger profile, but still keeps it small enough that it should carry comfortably. I think the upgrades make it an ideal companion gun for most outdoor recreational activities. I own, and have carried a variety compact 9mm pistols for years, but about a year ago I had a problem at the range that caused me to re-think my options. That night, I ordered a 856, and it has exceeded my expectations, both in quality, and at the range. I've logged a number of trips to the range, and carried it daily with confidence, and zero issues. If you find value in owning a compact handgun that is simple to use, versatile, affordable. and extremely reliable, this may be the gun for you.

What kind of night sight is it?

It's the front sight only.
It's painted glow-orange, but also has a tritium (night sight) insert in the front sight. Several reviews (TTAG, PDW, TFB) mention it in passing.
The Handguns Mag review reads:
"It’s an AmeriGlo, marked “H3 FJ,” for which I could find no details on AmeriGlo’s site. But no matter. It features a bright orange stripe into which a small tritium vial is set. It’s a sight that’s very quick to pick up in any lighting condition."

My understanding is:
* H3 = the AmeriGlo night sight model #
* DF = the date code of the tritium (since it has a 12-year half-life)
