I have one. Guide rod separated into 2 pieces during firing and was lost. Guide rod and barrel replaced after almost 6 months. Now the gun isn't firing consistently. Was going to be given to family member as a backup but I just can't do that to him. I have a Taurus 1911 that is totally reliable so I have nothing against the company. I don't trust unreliable firearms to be in my home. You never know if it could end up in your hands during an emergency

No offense, but I don't take "Guns and Ammo" reviews seriously

Does this gun come with 1 or 2 mags?

Before buying do some research on this gun. I had one and I would not trust it. When it worked it was a really nice little gun. However these guns are known to have issues with stovepipe. Also customer support for this particular gun is terrible. They had my gun for 5 months waiting on a part from Brazil. I am not joking ... 5 months. Also magazines are very hard to find unless you are willing to spend 60.00 each on eBay. Once I got the gun bam I decided I could never trust it with my life so I gave it away as a Christmas present with the understanding it is a range toy only. Even designating it as a backup is unacceptable because that implies your life is in danger and something reliable is needed for that role. So range toy only. Please understand I personally have nothing against Taurus. They make some reliable guns. This is just not one of them. While any people have good luck. The quality standard is always measured by those that have not. Google 709 slim issues and do some research. My intent is not to bad mouth Taurus but to save some of my gun supporting brothers from a bad experience like I had if possible.

Guns&Ammo just did a thorough review of this pistol (and several similar) in their current issue (June). Very high marks overall.

Thanks for the review. How is the trigger compared to a Glock? How's the reset? Thinking of picking up one for a truck gun.

The trigger pull is much longer than a Glock. Of course that is part of the safety built into smaller guns. I have a 709 and use it for the exact purpose you mentioned. Outside the house I always carry but wanted a back-up gun in addition to my carry gun to keep in my truck. I concur with the above review.

I have 2 of these. The first one was flawless from day 1. The 2nd I bought because I couldn't resist a $239 price from PSA, and it had extraction problems, but I sent it to Taurus and they replaced the extractor and barrel and it has been flawless every since. I have over 1000 rounds thru each gun and love them.
The trigger has a long free travel until you take up the slack, but then it breaks crisply with about a 5.5 lb pull. Both of these guns are tack drivers for me. They hit exactly where I hold them. One of the things I like the best is the extremely short reset. It makes follow-up shots very easy and accurate.
I liked the 709's so much that I later bought a G111 Gen 2 because it has the same type trigger but is double stack with 2 twelve round magazines. It has also been flawless thru about 600 rounds.

I bought my 709 stainless 6 months ago. I love this gun! It performs flawlessly through over 1000 rounds at the range. Mild recoil (very much less than my PF9), shoots straight, no ftf, no stovepipes, no fte, very easy to clean, double strike capability, light but not too light, slim profile... what more can I say. I highly recommend this firearm.

I guess it can be hit or miss with Taurus. I've had a 709 Slim (9mm) for about a year now, and it's been a wonderful gun. Never a single malfunction after probably 500 or so rounds. For me, the 709 is a great carry gun - light recoil, perfect form factor, smooth, easy trigger, accurate, shoots every brand/kind of 9mm I've loaded into it without a single hiccup. I bought a Taurus 738 TCP (.380) last summer after seeing how well the 709 worked for me and reading reports online, and it was a complete piece of junk. At least one round out of every magazine fired would stovepipe (tried three different magazines and as many different brands of ammo as I could find). I tried the magazine fix you see online, sent it back to Taurus for repair, but nothing fixed the issue. I've heard of other people having similar issues with the 709, but like I said, mine is rock solid.

I have one these (blued version) and it is a nice little gun. Don't know what the "make an offer" price is but $308 is just a few dollars high. A friend of mine and I took his LC9 and the 709 to the range together. Very close in size however the 709 had "0" malfunctions while the LC9 had a few hiccups.
