Not all guns fit every hand, still doesn't mean it's not a good pistol. Springfield xd m are fine weapons but do not fit my hands at all. This is a decent little pocket pistol for those on a budget

I wanted to like this pistol. Looks great but when I finally held one in my hand, it did not feel comfortable at all.

Note that the link takes you to the 709 Slim. If the heading is wrong, this is a decent deal. Handgun prices have fallen but recall that previously Taurus delivered this gun in a case with an extra magazine. The magazines are expensive and difficult to find. For this Gun, the drop in price is a little misleading and is and not a reflection on retailers like Buds.

Looks like they updated the heading. It no longer describes this as a 9mm TCP.

Here is a update to the comments I posted below.

Nothing has changed. Taurus support still has the gun and has no time table on when they are going to get it back to me. This is some what ridiculous and I am at this point over the whole deal. For those of you considering buying Taurus please don't. I really loved the gun when I got it but after 3 months of the worst customer service in the gun industry I can tell you now it is not worth your heart ache.

I don't actually hate Taurus. I just don't feel they make a quality product or offer good quality customer support.

When you call them all they can tell you is they have your gun and you are waiting for parts. The first time is sent it in they sent it back to me broken. There days later I sent it back and have not seen it since...that was about 3 months ago. According to customer support they are waiting for a barrel.

The part I find sad is they have a lifetime warranty on the product in three months they can not ship 1 new barrel to fix a 709 slim that has been sent in covered under their lifetime warranty. A life time warranty is worth nothing if the company will not fix the gun.

I asked to speak to someone that is on a supervisor level, I was told no.
I asked if there were any options other than waiting another month such as a trade in or replacement program. I was told no. I asked is there any options for me? I was told I can wait till it gets repaired and then they would send it back. I asked any idea how long that will be ... I was told no.

If you really want to see something that is really how my experience has been check this out...

Dealing with Taurus Customer Service Part 1

It would be funny if it was not so true.

Many people will tell you that their experience with Taurus has been positive, but as someone that deals with customer service every day I can tell you your company is only as good as your worst case when dealing with customer service.

One day Taurus may send my firearm back but to be honest I will never carry it. I can not bet my life on a gun that is so poorly made. Spend the extra 100.00 and get a Cannik55, Springfield or even a used Glock or CZ 75. Your life is worth the extra money spent.

I own one sort of. It has been at the Manufacture for repairs 3 of the 4 months I have owned it. First the ejector broke. Now they are waiting on a new barrel. When you call customer support all they can do is look up your name and read what the computer says in wrong. You have no alternatives.

Questions to Customer support.

1. Is there any way to get a replacement gun? No we do not offer that.

2. Is there any way to get credit towards another gun since you have had it for 3 months now? No we can not do that

3. Is there anyone that I can speak to higher than you that may be able to help me. No there is no one but me here to help you.

4. Can you give me a contact for your legal department? No I can not do that.

5. Is there anything you can do to help me. I can tell you that we are waiting on a barrel and it has been over 2 months. I can also tell you we have no idea when we may get the barrel in from the factory.

In general you can always tell a bad company when it is hard to contact anyone but the front-line support people. These are the low men on the totem pole that a script to read from ( think really bad insurance company ).

Every time I see this gun come on Slick guns I am going to make sure I warn people about it. The frustration I have every time I think about this gun is just irritating and my hope is that I can at least cost them the 299.00 + tax they cost me and save some of my fellow gun advocates and Conceal carry supporters the total aggravation that is the PT 709 SLIM. I will post my original review here shortly or you can find it on Academy's web sight.

I put this review on Academy's website, I got a thumbs down there for telling the truth about this gun. Kind of not a surprise. If you ever look at a gun on Academy's web site you will notice that almost every gun has five stars. I am posting it here because I really like a lot of the post here and I have found a lot of helpful information about guns here in large part because of the honest reviews that the regulars here take the time to post.

I purchased the pt709 slim from my local Academy I loved the feel of the and the features that the gun comes with. It was the perfect size for my carry weapon and the lifetime warranty was very appealing.

Taurus has not the best reputation for quality but from what I have been reading online they are getting a lot better. My first trip to the range was great!!!!

Unfortunately here is were the love for this gun ends. First there are no extra magazines for this gun anywhere. Even Taurus is waiting on them to be delivered

After about 200 rounds I started getting failures to eject. I looked online and found others that had the same problem. Turns out the ejector is a issue with these guns and that Taurus has to replace them often. I sent the gun in through Academy and the gun returned from Taurus after 4 weeks. Went to the range 4 shot down the tube the gun started failing to eject again and now it is having failures to chamber the next load properly.

I really want this gun to work. But there are real issues with this gun and I am not the only person to run into these issues. I spoke with Taurus support and they are going to fix it again but the simple fact is I will have a hard time trusting this gun with my safety or the safety of my family.

A carry gun needs to be clocked locked and ready to rock. If you have to use it you need it work 100% of the time. This gun so far has not been reliable and in truth if I could go back in time I would have payed more attention to the people that reviewed this gun in a unfavorable light.

Academy has been great in their sending the gun in to have it repaired and I am sure Taurus has some really great guns for the price.... this is just not one of them.

At this point I wish it was possible to trade the gun in for something more reliable. even a different Taurus gun would be great.

Once I get the gun back from repair I will post again but I thought people should know what it is I have gone through with this gun.

Update. I called customer support today and they are saying that the barrel has to be replaced. So how the hell did I get 200 rounds down the barrel.

One more reason to hate this gun.

Have you tried using higher-grain ammo? like 124gr or 147gr?

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that....

Yes I tried with 4 separate brands of ammo. The issue is not with the ammo it is with the Extractor\Ejector not being of good quality. Like I said before I put quite a few rounds down the barrel before the gun stopped working. Other people report the exact same issue.

Here are some other people who have the same issue.

http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/non-xd-handguns/146985-taurus-709-slim-ftes-galore-help.html...

http://www.handgunforum.net/taurus/22063-pt709-problems.html...

The first time I sent it in they replaced it and sent it back. They have had the gun for over 2 months now and they are still waiting on parts. Needless to say this will be my last purchase from Taurus.

I post on this matter every chance I get to try and help people like myself that are looking for a good inexpensive CC gun. I am so frustrated with their customer support at this point and I really don't want anyone of my fellow gun owners to have the same thing happen to them.

I will never buy a Taurus semi-auto. Their revolvers are good but the semis can't be trusted.

I had a brand new Taurus model 85 revolver that had timing issues right out of the box. After this and an issue with my wife's PT92, I swore the brand off completely. I did buy a well used PT99 that's perfect but if I can't shoot a Taurus (test drive it) it first, I''m passing.

"my dad has a bersa 380 not sure brand name but its about 290 black 300 two tone and very reliable also fun to shoot." Bersa is the brand name. Am I misreading something?

Its funny that you mention that. I am thinking about getting one of those because there are some great reviews and the gun affordable and reliable. I have a CZ 75 clone I am using now. It is a Canik 55 Stingray C that I love. It is amazing.

I have no disagreement with you however just making a point that a lemon can be had in any make or model. The 709 is my truck gun but my EDC, off duty, gun is the Shield. One extra mag came from CTD but due to their price gouging I will not buy there again. The other came from Sherwood's Guns. The issue of "in stock" just depends thus we have gun.deals.

I also agree on quality control but that crosses most makes too. The right rear sight dot has popped out of both of my Shields and I had to repaint. My SW MP40C went through the "mag drop" issue for example. Your point on the extractor is well taken and does raise concern. Just keep in mind thousands of these things have been produced most of which function as they should.

First let me start by saying I own this gun and actually like it quite a bit Unfortunately it has some real issues.

First the gun only comes with 1 magazine and finding another one is virtually impossible unless you want to pay 80.00 for one online. Even the lady I spoke with in customer service has said that the company is waiting for them now and if I sent one in for repair I would not be able to get a replacement anytime soon.

Second this gun has ejector issues. If you do a little reading online you will find that people have seen this issue quite a bit and have had to send the gun in for repair to get them to fix this. After about 300 rounds mine broke. This happened to me I sent it in to Taurus for repair and when I got it back 3 weeks later I fired 4 factory rounds through the gun and I started getting failure to eject. So the gun broke almost immediately.

I spoke to the Taurus rep face to face at my local gun shop and he said he had failed to hear of any of these issues { I am positive he was lying to my face }.

SO ... the good about this gun... it has adjustable sites shoots well when working. Perfect size for carry and can be hidden really easy. Has a good safety. Also comes with a lifetime warranty { good thing it is needed }. It has a really good feel in the hand and if you get the extended magazine ends it is perfect for big hands.

The bad...
It is kind of like a lemon car. It works sometimes, you always wonder if you can walk out in the morning and you pray it starts up. Well the 709 is like that. The problem I see is that if I am going to carry a gun it needs to be cocked locked and ready to rock at a moments notice. Unfortunately at this point I would not trust this gun to protect myself or even more importantly the lives of my family in a situation that required a draw and fire. The gun may fire 1 round and have failure to eject.

If there was a way for me to trade this gun in for something else I could carry, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Also this gun is available at academy for the same price if you really just have to have it. You can skip out on any shipping time and charges that way. I reviewed the gun on their site but they don't appear to allow my review to stay... I think maybe because I did not give it five stars. I gave it 2.

Anyway I hope this helps someone else not get into the same situation I now find myself in. Once more I sending it back tomorrow LOL.

I bought a 740 a few years ago and it came with 2 mags. I ran well over 500 rounds through mine and never had a single failure. Maybe I got lucky but I kind of doubt it. The trigger is very goofy and the safety is non ambi but other than that it is a great gun.

Sounds like you just got a lemon. There are some cases of faulty "extractors" with the 709 but there are also a lot of these guns on the market. I have one and have put several hundred rounds through it. Feeds, shoots, and conceals as easy as the Ruger LC9 for about $100 less. Magazines are available at several online stores and they run between $30 and $40 each. I got my extra magazine at my LGS for $24.99.

I hear what you are say Stew. Also thanks for the correction the extractor was the issue.

I really really like the gun when it works, I thought the exact same thing when I purchased mine. "Sounds like you got a lemon" yep and when I was shooting mine for the first 300 rounds I though that I had got lucky and got one of the good ones. I was wrong and now I am stuck sending back to the factory again.

My point still stands though no matter what amount of money you are going to spend if you are going to carry a gun it needs to work. If I was the only person that had seen this issue I would not be so concerned. This appears to be a common issue that has happened to multiple people. This points to a defect in manufacturing and quality control. My advise is based on my own experience with this gun. Once the gun gets back I am hoping that it works well and I can use it as a range gun to train my daughters on but I will not trust it with their lives.

Please post where I can buy one online 30 to 40 dollars online and in stock. I see lots of places that say they carry the magazine but none that have it in stock. I will buy one just so I have an extra.

Thanks

The Taurus 1709031FSFS is listed as being a 9mm with weight of 10.2 oz on your page. Elsewhere it is listed at 19 oz...and the only 10.2 oz listed at being the Taurus .380. Is the 9mm available in the 10.2 oz as advertised?
