Although a .357 mag through a 2" barrel neuters its immense power, it still has flash to go with its dash.

Not as daunting as it seems as there are an incredible variety of ammo available. Lots of flavors of .357 Mag from soft llead points, to wadcutters and semi-wadcutters that cuts nice clean ACCURATE holes in paper with the same muzzle energy as a normal 38 Special.

You can load up with a Speer Gold Dot hollow-point 135gr. that only has 294FPE at the muzzle end. Even lower, a Black Hills CNL, 158gr has 224FPE thanks to its snail's pace of 800fps.

Or try a monster Aguila Semi JHP 158gr. zooming out the business end of your Taurus 605 at 1545fps. Don't be surprised if it lays 600FPE or more on whatever is standing in front of it.

Don't sell a .38 Sp +P short. That's ("Sp" as in "Smith & Wesson Special"). Low on recoil. High on effectiveness. A Black Hills JHP 125gr +P has 306FPE - comparable to a 9mm. Plus, it retains that energy for a long time: like 231FPE at 100 yards. That's better than the comparable 9mm I just mentioned.

Stores running low on ammo will not be a problem.

There are lots and lots of great defensive rounds in both sizes. Plus, with a wheel gun, you can mix and match to your heart's content. Start the party with two .357 Mags and three .38 Sp +P for your parting shots.

These are fantastic pistols! .357 will kill promptly, and the 605 is my most accurate pistol I own. If .357 is too much for you, just shoot 38 special through it (for you ladies).As small as it is, .357 isn't bad through it at all to me. The double action was strong, so I replaced it with some lighter Wolff springs which did need some tweaking. The result was an amazing trigger pull, but I get light primer strikes which is really bad on hard primers (no ignition!). I bought mine about 5 years ago for $320 from Bud's so these are fantastic prices to me. My brother bought the exact same pistol for his carry gun. Can't say enough about the 605!

It's a 357 mag. You an shoot the 38 special out of it

Just purchased mine from Gunbuyer.com at 276.55 and free shipping. Grabagun has a good deal, but I live in Texas so it becomes not as much of a good deal for me. Looking forward to getting mine in so I can run it through the ringer at the range.
