if someone was smart they would order a ton of these, put cheap Chinese knock sights and bipod grip on it to make it look "tactical" and sell them on GB for double the price. I cannot believe people are that naïve to spend that on a $500 AR.

I can wait till they come back down to $500. +/- “” If our Second Amendment isn’t abolished “” and Constitution shredded in the mean time.

Decent gun. I would wait out for something better though. You'll end up spending premium rifle prices just upgrading this to the modern era with handguard, grip, stock, etc.

Depends how you define upgrade, and how much tacticool crap you want to hang off the rifle. The pistol grip is a good candidate for something more modern, but the issue stock is perfectly serviceable.

Ruger has a proprietary front sight block and handguard retention system, and their own take on a MBUS. And there's no real benefit to any of those, except for possibly the handguards being easier to remove for the ham-fisted among us. I'll take standard parts, please.

At around $500, these are a good deal. At close to $1k, there are better rifles out there for the money. Dont settle for PSA quality when you're paying Colt prices.

This is the best quality AR for the money. This was my first AR, and after 5k rounds, I've never had a jam with 15 brands (Except golden bullet) it's still very accuarate, and pretty solid. I'd buy it again, I got lucky on my first choice.

The S&W barrel is a little nicer and the parts overall are a little higher quality - MagPul BUIS, standard bird cage, standard A2 front sight with sling & bayonet lug, and standard delta ring. The only difference that really matters though is the twist rate on the barrel - the S&W is 1:9 and the Ruger is 1:8. If you're shooting 55gr and/or 62gr 5.56/.223, there's little to no difference. The Ruger's barrel will slightly pull ahead when shooting hotter rounds such as 72gr and 77gr.

How about some opinions on this S & W compared to the Ruger, ie. quality of parts, accuracy, dependability, Thanks

Oh my God, the forward assist and dust cover are included !! Praise be !!! How nice to include those !!!

If we're looking at the past couple months I'll chalk it up to beginner panic buying. A lot of the spike seems to be on budget oriented models with name recognition.

Sure seems like gun prices, especially AR platforms are rising in price....all the rifles I've seen in the past year or two were sub $500, some even around sub $400....now over the past few months they're going up to high $500 mark to $650 for those same rifles...

Stop sitting on your butt and buy one.
Canada just banned all AR15's. America is fighting liberal politicians from doing this.
Don't start crying when they ban these and your left with nothing. You have a God given right to defend yourself!

Yes Romeo. I’m with ya on the best entry level AR. If the price goes to around $460/$480 in the future I would consider it just to plink, but in the market now for a precision “target” AR 300 YD + Ps what are the groupings on yours with target rounds @100yds ?

Can’t go wrong with this or the Ruger 8500, but personally I would wait for the prices to drop back down to $460 +/-

I bought mine a while ago I paid like $750 for it before I even knew this app existed. I’ve seen it as low as $480. It’s one of the best if not the best entry level AR 15 on the market, very high quality and I highly recommend it

Really well made AR15, especially for the price... Global Ordinance has the Bushmaster XM-15 shipped for $649.

I bought mine for $500 and most of the price tracking up until April shows that as kinda common, so it's not a great deal. That being said, solid intro AR for those getting into it.

I got this Smith & Wesson (SKU: gb-10202-GB) on March 2017 for $498 out the door (no tax [TX], handling or CC fees) from Gun Buyer. It's been a great gun. Hopefully this helps people with pricing this out. Current pricing at $589 does not seem like a deal.

I bought mine here the last time they ran this deal. It's hard to find a nicer carbine for the price.

If your looking for a beater 1st rife the $329 PSA would work just as good and ladies would probably prefer the softer shooting midlength gas versus this carbine length gas.

Looking to buy my first AR15 whats a better gun? S&W 15 sport 2 $449 or PSA 16" M4 5.56 NATO 1/7 NITRIDE MOE EPT FREEDOM RIFLE WITH REAR MBUS for $459.

I have the SW and feel better spending my money on a recognized brand name. Even those who nothing about guns know Smith and Wesson. It is a nice quality build and they always answer the phone if you need service. Better investment.

I'd go for the PSA you listed. It has better magpul furniture than stock mil-spec and a nicer trigger.

I noticed the product code is 10202W. Is that the same as code 10202 and what does the W stand for ?

The W stands for web sale only. Same item, online deal. I had same question last year when I bought mine from them.

Bought this at a higher price a couple of days before they dropped it below $500. When I went to pick it up I asked if they would match the current online price and they did with no questions asked. $533.00 out the door after taxes.

Great gun and great price. I just paid $620 for mine 3 months ago. Well built and S&W has the best support and service.

For 572 shipped, this is a great deal gents. With elections coming this price wont last long. Buy it while you can at a great price.

Great gun and the best price I have seen since spring. I just paid $618 for mine last week, ouch.

I am satisfied with the build and chose the S&W because if a day comes that I want to sell it there will be more shoppers wanting to look and a Smith and Wesson than some other brand unknown to the beginner market. They have great service and they last a long time.

I disliked the fit and finish on my Sport II. QC has gone down, so I sold it.
This is a good price at under $600, but for not much more there are better options.
Upgraded to a Windham Weaponry, and couldn't be happier.

I had a good experience with my first purchase of a SW Sport 2 from Whittaker guns. Arrived at my ffl within just a couple days. excellent staking job on bcg and castle nut and perfect fit with hardly any space between upper and lower and the take down pins push out with little effort unlike the ruger ar556 I own that still needs a tool to be pushed out even after over 1,000 rounds through it. That being said if you're looking for a more true mil spec AR between the Ruger and the SW I'd say the SW is the better option. I only wish the SW had a 1/8th twist barrel option but probably not noticeable as far as accuracy goes as I mostly shoot 55 grain.

Great option for an entry level AR and more than fair price before November. Almost tempted to put a second one on layaway. Get em while you can ladies and gentleman.

I, too, am an S&W fan and can live without the 5R, but the decision to go with a 1:9 twist on this barrel is unfortunate. S&W should have made 1:7 and 1:8 twists optional. From my understanding, the Ruger isn't chrome lined, but it's CHF and 1:8. For $600 I think I'd rather go the PSA route and piece two receivers together or build myself.

If this was the original Sport with 5R and 1:8, being sold at $600, these would be flying off the shelves twice as fast. Barrel quality > dust cover and forward assist for me.

I hear you, but that’s a detail that most of the intended market (beginning AR shooters) won’t care about. Most will only shoot the cheap 55 gr bullets and a 1:9 barrel will stabilize those just fine. At this price and feature set, this is a good choice for any new shooter, or as a backup for a more experienced one.

Either is a decent entry-level rifle.

The Ruger's price has gotten a little inflated recently due to media attention (both reviewers and anti-gun type).

They both have their pros over each other in different areas, but it will come down to intended use and personal preference on specific features.

Message me about a potentially better, third option.

Trying to decide between this and the Ruger Ar 556. Ruger is about $80 more. Any advise? Never owned an AR before.
