    Purchased on: November 2023
  • Finally got one, as an owner of (too) many handguns (HKs, Sigs, Glocks, 1911s, etc.), I must say that it is the best $325 I've ever spent on guns.

Went to Bereli to order. Put in cart. Price is at $375. How do I get it for $325?

Me too, my FFL said he’s been having issues with Bereli screwing up peoples orders, but my transaction went smoothly. They have some killer deals

Massively underrated and under appreciated line of pistols. If there was only more aftermarket support these things would fly off the shelves, but a lot of blame lies on Steyr for the lack of marketing. I own both an L9 and M9 in the A2 MF configuration.

Spare 17rd mags for this gun are still only $20 a pop on Steyr's webstore at the time I'm writing this

After being on the fence for awhile I finally got one. Must say for the price of $325 and free shipping, this is an exceptional value and quality gun. Fit and Finish are excellent. Component tolerances are very tight. One suggestion I have is to try one first if you can and see if it fits you.
While I have not fired it, I did find some interesting aspects of it comparing to other guns. I compared it to my Glock45 9mm(MOS and Standard), Beretta 92X and PX4. All these are within the same general category - 17 round 9mm w/ approx. 4" barrels, with the G45 being the closest comparison and the Steyr thought to replace.
One thing I found with these four is how similar they are to each other by the numbers, all built around almost the exact same magazine dimensions. After all, there's only so many ways to double stack 9mm and have it in the grip. So it came down to how each manufacturer approached the wrapping around this basic tenet. Of the four, the G45 is the lightest, then the Steyr, PX4 and 92X. Surprisingly, while the G45 is slimmer at the slide and appears the thinnest, all these have approximately the same overall width, especially at the grip and frame of around 30mm. The other grip dimensions of all four are also very close. So it came down to how each is contoured and textured at various points. Thus affecting how it may(or may not) fit YOUR hand. If you thought Glocks feel like a 2x4 in your hand, the contours at the front of the Steyr grip makes it feel like holding a 4x4. Again, they actually have the exact same overall grip dimensions.
The next surprising aspect I found is the supposed vaunted low bore axis of the Steyr. All the reviews I saw mention how low it is and it certainly has that appearance. However, I measured the Steyr to have the exact same centerline bore height above the top of the curve of the beavertail(where the top of your hand would be) as the G45! 20mm. The "low bore axis" of the Steyr is only a visual slight of hand. Resulting from the lower slide height compared to the G45 as well as the relative proportion of the slide height to it's frame. The 92X and PX4 have bore heights of 30mm. So the Steyr barrel is moving at the exact same height as the G45 above your hand. The lower felt recoil and muzzle flip reported by many may possibly be due to other factors instead of bore height. Edit.. The bore axis referred to here was only measuring centerline of barrel. However, the lower profile of the overall slide may lower the Center of Gravity of the entire slide mass. Thus still contribute to a lower reciprocating mass.
In the end, while originally intended to possibly replace the G45, the Steyr may not. It is heavier, bulkier, may not shoot much better and has a lot less aftermarket support. BTW I am not a strict Glock fanboy as I have many other makes.
And in terms of the pistol that "fit" me? it ends up being my................revolver. The grip is not constrained by having to fit a magazine.

I think it’s partly the lower slide mass and partly the grip being more angular and the shape makes it seem to absorb recoil more (kinda surprised it doesn’t have more surface area/circumference as I had thought it did). The slide seems so much bulkier that it was surprising to read that it’s so close to the G45….but I’m a big fan of such detailed reviews! Thanks!!

Thanks for the review. I agree that handgun selection is the most personal of all weapon platforms, and we haven't even mentioned hammers, strikers, triggers, safeties, controls, weight, cartridge, holster, price, durability, legality, construction, appearance, origin, etc., etc.......lends plausibility to issuing AK's and knives to the villagers.

You're absolutely correct. Thus the billions dollar accessories and parts market for this field.

Phenomenal pistol. Only downside is no optics cut. Wish Steyr would address this. They need to keep up. Otherwise an exceptional value for a soft shooting and accurate 9

This has got to be the most gun for the money on the market!!! If Wa hadn't passed that stupid "High capacity" mag ban I would def buy one of these even though I already have the L9 I like it so much I'd buy another so he could have a little bro to keep him company.

"The gun Glock should of been". Steyr pistols are actually the first to make the modular design. These pistols are so much more than a Glock. Fan boys will probably unite against me on this but it's true. Other than support and aftermarket options, this gun is AWESOME. Very well made, super tight tolerances, high quality and extremely comfortable. I'm not sure that beyond a custom pistol, there isn't a higher grip and factory frame that allows for such recoil mitigation and soft shooting. I happen to love the sights, once you get used to them they are good. The trigger isn't the best but on par with most others in it's class. At this price, if your on the fence and never shot a Steyr pistol, I'd say go for it! You'll be pleasantly surprised and happy with your purchase.

Got mine last night. Smaller that it looks in the photos and almost the same size as a glock 19, except the mag base sticks out a bit longer. Highly recommended.

If they made it in .45, I'd hit it.

Very underrated gun. This is what the Glock 19 should have become if it was allowed to evolve. The grip on this gun is the most comfortable I've ever held on a pistol. Only major complaint is the trapezoid sights take some getting used to.

The sights are actually my favorite part. I tried to finding them for other pistols but never could find anything that quite fit the bill.

I was not sure about Steyr handguns; but this handgun is now one of my top 5 favorites. The only thing I will say is this. “Wow I’m extremely surprised how easy was to shoot, the accuracy and the way it feel in your hand like is part of your hand”.

I paid $599 plus tax from SMGA and I thought that was good, but free shipping AND no tax outside of florida makes this a really great deal.

Didn't know the new version of the M9 was out yet. I will be holding out for the L9 to come back in stock though

    Why prefer l9 to m9?

    1 vote

Mostly the longer sight radius. Longer barrel helps a little too with velocity and recoil. Most of my pistol shooting is in competition so every little bit helps though I'd prefer something even longer than the L9 with at least a 5" barrel. When given the option with the A1 pistols I even opted for a threaded barrel just for the length.

Could be either the slightly longer sight radius, or it could be aesthetics.
