AT the Copy Door Service shop (http://caldwells.com/door-shop) where they mainly sells different types of cabinet and doors, I have seen exactly similar kind of gun safe, but it has additional compartment underneath. Is that something that you are aware of?

Come on people, this is better then nothing if you have kids. Lets be honest no matter what safe you have can be broken into to. My insurance adjuster showed me pictures of a 5000lb safe. Hat was stolen from a home by 3 guys. They beat the hell out of it till it opened. Changed my whole view on safes. I spent alot of time securing the room my toys are in. And people with kids need to teach there kids about firearms so there is no mystry. My kids have no desire to play with or take my stuff. They were tought about firearms and i always put the fear of god into them if they ever touched them. And if your kids break into your stuff you need to look in the mirror on how they are being raised (not all parents though).

Pretty funny to see people all worked up over how other people choose to store their firearms. On that note a friend gave me this when i first started getting into guns. I have it bolted to the floor...i use it mostly to keep my brothers paws off my sh*T

You can get a bigger one, already assembled and of much better construction for $10 more at Walmart. Also, if you have American Express, check your offers using your online amex account portal, because they are offering a lot of customers a $20 statement credit for a $70 Walmart order.

I would never keep real guns in this. I have a Liberty fireproof safe for those. But I am getting this just to store all my excess ammo and my pellet guns in: http://tinyurl.com/ole6y3v...

I am getting that for $70 after the Amex promo, delivered to my door.

This would be ok for storing accessories or ammo. Obviously this is better than nothing when storing guns while saving for a heavier duty "UL Listed - Residential Security Container". Another thing to think about is the moisture problem in this tin can.... There is not enough Silica Gel in the world to contain the moisture in this airflow box.

OK, wow. Airflow is what prevents moisture accumulation. Golden rods for safes work on the principal that a very slight heat will cause convection and airflow. They don't supply enough heat to dry the air, just keep it moving. A FIREPROOF safe is the worst case scenario for moisture build up because they are almost airtight. A metal cabinet like this is the best case scenario unless you live in the swamp. In any case, always use some form of moisture control.

What a joke. ditto on the comment about people owning a bunch of guns then locking them up in this crap can. Your guns will be stolen. heck, a 6th grader on the football team can pick this thing up with it's contents and walk out the house.

Whys he gotta be on the football team? Anyhow this is better than nothing, and lets say a burgalar does break in, they usually spend a very small amount of time in the house (grab and go) if they even make it the room where your safe is located, probably a utility room, basement somewhere out of the way, when they see a safe they probably will move on not knowing how easy it is to pick if they even know how (most criminals arent to smart). So for my old cheap surplus rifles and shotguns this will do just fine. Its more of a keeping them away from kids typedeal anyhow. And if your kids smart enough to break your lock, hell probably be kept from doing so by the fact of how obvious it will be when you come home and see a broken lock...

Just to expand on the logic of the other outstandingly intelligent members here..

Your brother-in-law must be cheap dip-shit, deserves to be robbed, shot in the face with their own firearm, having their as well as their families genes removed from the gene pool, and a 'Fudd' (whatever that is..)

/sarcasm off

Anyone that cheaps out and buys a storage cabinet instead of an actual safe deserves no pity when their shit gets stolen or they get shot in the face with their own firearm. You can break into these POS's without tools. It amazes me how many Fudds can afford 1/2 dozen guns but can't seem to ever afford a real safe that costs a fraction thereof to purchase. And my favorite dip-shits are those that store their ammo inside these cabinets WITH the firearms. You know; exactly like some of these pictures show. I guess that family won't be a big loss to the gene pool anyway...

Fireproof is the only reason to have a safe. If your concern is being burglarized... perhaps you should rethink your place of residence lol.

Residing anywhere in today's USA makes you fair game to thieves. If you think otherwise, you are tempting fate. A gun SAFE is a wise investment, storing anything valuable in this cabinet is the equivalent of locking something valuable in your glove box.

That's not true, at least the usa part. If you feel that way then maybe you should rethink your residence... the USA is a relatively safe place where a handful of cities... 10-15 skew numbers that politicians live to reference in things from violent crime to gun related crime... truth be told if we nuked those cities our crime rates would be some of the lowest in the world.

If you just need something to keep your guns away from your kids this is more than adequate.

I have fireproof Safes, one for guns one for documents, because the response time of the local volunteer fire department is somewhere between an aeon and an eternity....

We seem to differ on the topic and reason for need.
(you) "If your concern is being burglarized.."
(me) "Residing anywhere in today's USA makes you fair game to thieves"
(you) "Violent crime in big cities skews the overall blah, blah, blah"

Violent crime (murder, rape, agg assault, robbery) and burglary (breaking/entering) are two VERY different problems. You can move away from certain areas to all-but-eliminate one threat, but you will never escape the other. A safe is a must for anything resembling a "gun collection". Putting up a barrier that can't be thwarted by a screwdriver is a wise investment.

Some folks use these to keep their guns out of the hands of children and the like.. Some folks with their 'my way is the only way' know-it-all attitude is really pedantic and gets really old.

Safes are for safer-than-sorry circlejerk pussies. I leave my guns and ammo laying everywhere around the house in the open -- like a real man.

Best comment here, although I also agree with Baranox, the opinionated asses really need to give it a rest. Not everybody lives in the hood, and it's unlikely anyone will get past my fence and my dogs, so they certainly wouldn't make it in my house. If a squirrel makes it past the fence, it gets eaten.

I agree I don't see why someone would get this over a safe, but why not store the ammo in the safe if you have room?
