Agreed. The 14C28N steel of the Kershaw Leek will resist corrosion much better and it's on sale right now for about $15 less than this deal. I do like what Spyderco does with budget 8Cr13MoV in it's Byrd line, but not at this price. Expensive handle on a budget knife strikes me as going in the wrong direction.
The Ontario Rat I on sale for $20 would be another good choice for a budget blade, and AUS-8 resists corrosion a little better than 8Cr13MoV. Totally different kind of knife though with the larger, more stout blade.
Crap steel.
Made in China
Bargain basement Spyderco.
No thanks.
Goes to show how cheap titanium is now. Some companies are still charging a premium for it when obviously it isn't a premium material anymore.
I have the standard version of this knife with plastic handles, and it was a good deal at $25ish. However, the steel began to show surface rust while sitting in the glovebox of my wife's convertible after a couple months (near the California coast). It's easy to sharpen, and does its job for the $25 price.
For $50 you get Titanium handles, which in my opinion isn't worth the extra cost as it's still the same steel as the $25 version. A lot of other options are available with better steel once you get into the $50 range. I'd recommend a Kershaw Leek at around $40, or if you really want a Spyderco, save a bit more for the Delica - it's definitely worth the upgrade from this.
