Description

Redefining perceptions of semi-automatic 5.56 performance, the new Hellion from Springfield Armory represents a radically unique and innovative approach to firearms design. Featuring a bullpup configuration where the action is located behind the trigger, the Hellion features an overall length of just 28.25-inches while still possessing a 16" barrel. The Hellion sports ambidextrous controls that work in concert with a reversible case ejection system, allowing it to be easily fired from either shoulder. The result? A 5.56 that combines portability with performance.

  • This rifle isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Sure the trigger may need some getting used to and is a little spongey, but so is the MP5 and countless other firearms that people idolize. The height over bore is not as much of an issue as people make it out to be. Get a low mounted optic or something that isn't a riser size on an AR. No issues with PA LVPOs, just know how the firearm platform works. It would be similar to complaining about an M16A2 patterned rear sight, optic mount height. Thing shoots flat and reloads aren't as complicated as made out to be. People say you have to 'pinch' the bolt release, which is one way of doing it. The other way is simply bumping it back with your hand while doing a reload. One issue I do have with the rifle is the lack of bolt hold if you're needing to clear any form of malfunction. You will have to do similar to an AK and hold the bolt back manually, thankfully the magwell is shallow enough to stick your fingers in there, just be careful. The safety could use an extender, as switching it takes a little getting used to. Other than that, it's a different firearm platform that many are not accustomed to, but with training and familiarity of the firearm will get you proficient enough.

  • With pics… Please someone make a decent aftermarket trigger so I can spend another $500 on this already overpriced bullpup. To think Steyr did a better one in 1977 you’d think 2022 would be way better…

  • Trigger is terrible and not nearly as great as I had hoped. Too bad all the shill reviewers talked it up and I overpaid to get one. Controls are weird and I’m talking from experience opening at least one of every bullpup out there. Some mags don’t fit - Troy being one off the top of my head. The rear cheek riser isn’t adjustable - it only moves up to swap ejection port cover. Makes standard AR sight height optics too high and check weld suffers. Muzzle brake is garbage prong flash hider. You’d really expect more at this price point. They do win worst bullpup trigger ever - long take up, slight wall and then more take up before the mushy break. KelTec wins hands down on the trigger (RFB and RDB). I really expected more…

I’m guessing by your comment you have not handled any Bullpup rifles, they’re all heavy, but they do not feel heavy because The weight is centrally located.

I wish that whole top rail area including the molded riser part was removable or redesigned to not be so gaudy looking. I think a simple AR style Carey handle type mount forward of the trigger and grip area would look better.

I found it imbalanced with an awkward design resulting in handling and ergonomic issues, especially compared to the AUG and Tavor. If Springfield's buying power could reduce this price by a few hundred below the competition they may get some takers despite its faults. I also suggest knowing the manual-of-arms on these bullpups before buying.
