Available in 9mm and .40 S&W, the new M&P SHIELD features a slim design combined with the proven and trusted features found in the M&P Pistol Series. From the pistol’s easily concealed one-inch profile to its optimized 18-degree grip angle, the M&P SHIELD offers professional-grade features that provide consumers with simple operation and reliable performance.
Chambered in 9mm and .40 S&W for proven stopping power, the M&P SHIELD features a high-strength polymer frame with a black, durable, corrosion resistant finish, coated stainless steel slide and barrel. Both models are standard with a 3.1-inch barrel, which contributes to an overall length of 6.1 inches and an unloaded weight of 19 ounces. Reviews

With the introduction of their M2.0 line of polymer framed, striker fired pistols, Smith & Wesson addressed the one big complaint that gun buyers had about the M&P line: the trigger. As we’ve mentioned in previous reviews of both the full-size and compact double-stack versions of the new M&P9 M2.0, the attention Smith paid to improving what was generally considered a mediocre-at-best bangswitch has really paid off. For those looking for slim, single-stack concealability in their everyday carry gun, the ultra-popular M&P9 SHIELD was just the ticket when it was first rolled out back in 2012.

Re: the sear deactivation lever.
My wife bought me a Shield 9 mm for Christmas 2017.
On the second trip to the range the sear deactivation lever broke.
S&W paid to have it shipped and repaired - it was gone for a month.
I've heard you don't actually need the deactivation lever but it's the principle - a new gun shouldn't break.
Google the sear deactivation lever and you'll find it's a common problem with Shields.
It's the only issue I have ever had with a S&W.

I bought this for $225 after rebate last summer. Not a great deal unless it’s the M2.0

I paid $199 after rebate for my 1st gen. I miss the good times.

Either post a link to your time machine so we can all go back to last summer or post a link to a better price. S&W was offering really good incentives then, but aren't now. As such, the prices are higher.

Brownell's charges sales tax, don't think Whittaker does. And good luck getting all 37 Brownell's codes to stack and work. Shame, as I want to support the guys but they are just flat out hard to do business with.
