Description
How does "almost perfect" become "perfect?" It's simple. You take a wildly popular striker-fired pistol like the original M&P, preserve the features that made it an instant classic, and make a number of key improvements based on input from devotees and critics alike.
First and foremost is a new trigger that's crisper and lighter, with tactile and audible reset…so you can hear and feel it through the frame. The grip has been redesigned with the proven 18-degree grip angle, offering a more natural point of aim. You'll notice that the beavertail is less pronounced, resulting in a higher grip that puts more "meat" behind the bore axis, reducing muzzle lift and keeping you on target. The grip has been overhauled with much more aggressive texturing for more confident hold, and now includes 4 interchangeable palmswell grip inserts compared to the 3 that came with the original M&P.
Inside, the rigid embedded stainless steel chassis has been extended, reducing flex and torque when shooting. S&W also shaved a little material off the slide, reducing weight by a few ounces, and they applied an Armornite® corrosion-resistant finish, another upgrade over the original.
Same controls, same life-and-death reliability…but undeniably better in a few key areas. It's a Pistol that feels and fires like a next-gen model should!
"Backwards-compatible" with original M&P magazines and holsters
New trigger assembly lightens the trigger pull weight while adding an audible, tactile reset
High grip-to-bore axis makes the M&P pistol more comfortable to shoot, reducing muzzle rise and allowing for faster aim recovery
Proven optimal 18-degree grip angle for natural point of aim
4.25" stainless barrel with 1:10" twist for top accuracy
Aggressive grip texture for enhanced control
Four interchangeable palmswell grip inserts for optimal hand fit and trigger reach: S, M, ML, L
Steel skeleton under the polymer makes it much more rigid, reducing flex and torsion and helping to mitigate recoil
Thinner slide with new ArmorniteTM finish for enhanced corrosion resistance
Tactical white 3-dot steel sights for quick target acquisition
Backed by a Manufacturer's Limited Lifetime Warranty and Lifetime Service Policy
Includes two 17-rd. magazines

Oddly enough this issue is pretty common. I have a Glock 19 and a CZ-P07 that do the exact same thing. I don't have to slam them home very hard, just with enough force to ensure the magazine catches. It never bothered me but I make sure not to train to rely on the slide going into battery when I insert a magazine.
There's a difference when slowly inserting the mags as opposed to slapping it in and the slide going forward. According to S/W this is a normal function.
My reply to all of this....who gives a fawk if the gun does this? I have a g19 that doesn't do it but I don't slam it like I'm beating the bishop either.
The whole point is that S&W changed the m2.0 so it doesn't do it. It's one of the few changes other than cosmetics from the 1.0.
No, it's a flaw, because it doesn't ALWAYS go forward when you slap a magazine in, only about 1/3rd of the time. Also, they "fixed" the 2.0 so it doesn't do it at all. There's lots of YouTube vids about this issue.
Most firearms including Glock does this. If you slap a fully loaded magazine hard enough the slide will automatically go forward.
Again, it WAS A FLAW. 1) It didn't happen all the time. If it was supposed to be a "tactical reload" it should have done it 100% of the time. 2) They FIXED it on the M2.0. If it was a "feature" why did they get rid of it?
None of my pistols do this. Exactly how hard are you slamming your mags into your pistol? Enough to damage them? My Glock 21 does not do this. Nor do my Springfields or Tauruses. I suggest you either buy better quality guns or treat them a bit better.
Normal? For a flawed gun perhaps. None of my pistols have this 'feature'.
I got a response from smith and Wesson about the slide going forward without it being racked. According to them when you slap the magazine in it's a tactical reload which is supposedly better when and if it's needed in a emergency There's
Sounds like a flaw. They can re-word it however they want. Gun goes off when the slide goes forward? That's called a Tactical Fire Feature' for emergencies....give me a break.
I doubt that's the truth. If it was a "feature".... why did they "fix" it on the 2.0?
(I've had both the 1.0 and 2.0)
Great gun, just purchased one last week. I love it! Paid 399 for mine, another great deal. Same height grip as my shield, 1” longer slide. New truck gun for me! Trigger is good.
Is there a fix by S/W for that slide going forward when you insert a mag sometimes?
Don't think so, but I imagine if you complained enough to S&W and sent it back they'd do something about it.
yes, please do, so there are more 2.0s available to those of us who prefer better grips and a much better trigger.
Trigger is no better you retard. Needs an Apex anyway and only pussies can't hold a pistol tight like when I stick it in your mom's ass.
Sure says it has a new and improved trigger in the description..
One thing they did change (other than cosmetics) is the flaw the 1st gen had that if you slammed in a magazine too hard, the slide would pop forward all by itself.
I had an early 1st gen, and a later 1st gen, and now a m2.0. The trigger is no different from 1st gens made after Feb. of 2013. It is better than the early 1st gens though.
Just bought one a few weeks ago, paid $425
Put about 400rds thru it so far with no issue's. The trigger pull is very gritty but I'm hoping it will smooth out with time.
Is it true that the Mod 2 will not let you close the slide unless a mag is inserted? If that is so, the gun becomes inoperable without a functioning mag. I think the earlier version does not have that “function” (disadvantage if you ask me).
Don't know where you heard that.... but it's absolutely not true. Sounds like one of those goofy internet myths. A simple YouTube search will show you.
Great pistol. I don't own one but have shot them. Best price I've seen on it. If I didn't just drop a generous down payment on a vehicle, I'd probably bite. Not sure where mmarrin8985 got it for $329 but that's a steal.
Very rarely you can find it cheaper. I got it for 329 about 2 months ago. Would have paid 379 though
Was that the 1.0 or 2.0? Never seen the 2.0 for less than 399
Great deal! Best "bang" for your buck in a full-sized 9mm.
Great deal. Ordered my very first handgun!
Had a buddy who has been asking to buy my m2.0 for awhile, so I finally sold it to him for $439 and bought a new one for $409 + $30 FFL fee.
Then I found out S&W has a current $50 rebate going on, so really it turned out to be + $50. Score.
