These two calibers ( .300 Whisper and .300 AAC Blackout.) are solutions to problems most people don't have/ won't have. Then add 6.8spc {6.8x43mm SPC} and also 6.5mm Grendel (6.5×39mm); and you get lotsa new fangled things to buy, over priced add-on parts and tacti-cool extras to sell you. SO, keep your wallet tightly closed, until you have a good understanding of these calibers/ uses/ advantages... and then by that time, the ammo availability/ price point might come down to favor the little guy. Start with 5.56mm in a 16in barrel and master that weapon... Your mileage may vary~ Regards

Can someone tell me what's the difference in a 300 whisper and 300 blackout? Is ti just the name? Maybe the same round made by two different companies calling it something different? I'm just curious and interested in maybe one day getting a 300 suppressed upper. I had a guy talk to me for 30 mins about them and never really said anything useful nor say anything that I didn't already know; it's pretty much a 30 cal bullet in a 556/223 case, a good round to suppress, expensive but easy to make your own cases for reloading, just by cutting the neck off a 223/556 and very had to find in stores right now.

Good luck finding ammo for this!

Unless you are setup to reload this will make a great paper weight!

less demand so companies just have not been putting it out. same problem I have run into with 10mm except 300 is even worse.

Reloads using modified 5.56 cases and .308 bullets, so easy to get started with and parts are relatively cheap. Also uses standard 5.56 magazines. Trajectory is similar to 7.62x39 or 30-30, so effective much farther than "200 yards". The only difference between this and a 5.56 rifle is usually the barrel.
