Description
In 2003 the gunsmiths and engineers at Smith & Wesson wanted to deliver maximum power for serious handgun hunters. The power they sought required an entirely new frame, the massive "X-Frame™," and was the basis for the new Model S&W500™, the most powerful production revolver in the world. This ushered in the era of the "big gun" and was only the beginning. For ultimate power and velocity there's nothing even close to an X-Frame model handgun.

Okay, but what about Yeti? Those creatures are stealthy & will close on you fast. One time my friend, Bob Sacamundo, was collecting ice ginger in the frozen tundra of Artic Serbuurbia when he & his companion were ambushed by a rabid Yeti. Bob was packing his 617 kit gun. Bob fired, it barely phased his target, but luckily proper shot placement slowed down his companion sufficiently enough that the Yeti became preoccupied with him & Bob was able to escape. Now, w/ this 500 S&W, proper shot placement may not have to be in order. As any hit would likely slow down fellow prey, leaving behind a Yeti meal other than one's self.
The moral to this fable:
When traveling in bear country with anyone else, all you need is a .22.
Great for taking down large game, Russian attack helicopters and the terminator.
Large bear defensive carry gun that is great for Alaskan wilderness for sure. Probably the only handgun for Polar Bear as well. You are doing something terribly wrong if a polar Bear could sneak up on you considering it's habitat is wide open with high visibility within the Artic circle. I would suggest .308 Win for the same job in a hunting rifle for distance but I realize holstering a revolver is preferable to some in Alaska. I will never meet anyone that actually needs this gun but it is an effective defensive handgun as long as you can get a shot off. Ammunition is a little too high to me but when not sold out Freedom Munitions offers ammo for it for a decent price: https://www.freedommunitions.com/ammunition/brands/big-grains/500-s-w-mag-350gr-rnfp-big-grains-new.html...
This should certainly help with my delicate ego issues! But seriously I do sorta want one.
