At around $500, these are a good deal. At close to $1k, there are better rifles out there for the money. Dont settle for PSA quality when you're paying Colt prices.

This is the best quality AR for the money. This was my first AR, and after 5k rounds, I've never had a jam with 15 brands (Except golden bullet) it's still very accuarate, and pretty solid. I'd buy it again, I got lucky on my first choice.

The S&W barrel is a little nicer and the parts overall are a little higher quality - MagPul BUIS, standard bird cage, standard A2 front sight with sling & bayonet lug, and standard delta ring. The only difference that really matters though is the twist rate on the barrel - the S&W is 1:9 and the Ruger is 1:8. If you're shooting 55gr and/or 62gr 5.56/.223, there's little to no difference. The Ruger's barrel will slightly pull ahead when shooting hotter rounds such as 72gr and 77gr.

How about some opinions on this S & W compared to the Ruger, ie. quality of parts, accuracy, dependability, Thanks

Oh my God, the forward assist and dust cover are included !! Praise be !!! How nice to include those !!!

If we're looking at the past couple months I'll chalk it up to beginner panic buying. A lot of the spike seems to be on budget oriented models with name recognition.

Sure seems like gun prices, especially AR platforms are rising in price....all the rifles I've seen in the past year or two were sub $500, some even around sub $400....now over the past few months they're going up to high $500 mark to $650 for those same rifles...

Overpriced, used to be 460-490

Stop sitting on your butt and buy one.
Canada just banned all AR15's. America is fighting liberal politicians from doing this.
Don't start crying when they ban these and your left with nothing. You have a God given right to defend yourself!

Yes Romeo. I’m with ya on the best entry level AR. If the price goes to around $460/$480 in the future I would consider it just to plink, but in the market now for a precision “target” AR 300 YD + Ps what are the groupings on yours with target rounds @100yds ?

Can’t go wrong with this or the Ruger 8500, but personally I would wait for the prices to drop back down to $460 +/-

I bought mine a while ago I paid like $750 for it before I even knew this app existed. I’ve seen it as low as $480. It’s one of the best if not the best entry level AR 15 on the market, very high quality and I highly recommend it

Really well made AR15, especially for the price... Global Ordinance has the Bushmaster XM-15 shipped for $649.

I bought mine for $500 and most of the price tracking up until April shows that as kinda common, so it's not a great deal. That being said, solid intro AR for those getting into it.

I got this Smith & Wesson (SKU: gb-10202-GB) on March 2017 for $498 out the door (no tax [TX], handling or CC fees) from Gun Buyer. It's been a great gun. Hopefully this helps people with pricing this out. Current pricing at $589 does not seem like a deal.

This s/w ar15 is no longer available at this price as the price is $

I bought mine here the last time they ran this deal. It's hard to find a nicer carbine for the price.

If your looking for a beater 1st rife the $329 PSA would work just as good and ladies would probably prefer the softer shooting midlength gas versus this carbine length gas.

Still out of stock at Whittaker and DEguns, who knows when and if they'll have more for that price. This is only $7 more anyway. This is the current deal for this rifle. If you would like a solid AR 15 before the next election, this would be a good opportunity to jump on this deal. You can just send a check to avoid CC fee. Buds is like that too.

Got on from Whitaker. Cant go wrong with this Deal. Looked a long time at Palmetto to piece one together, but $512 shipped or $519 shipped, how the hell can you go wrong. Added a Vortex Strikefie II for $149 shipped and 17 mags shipped for $142 totaling $803. Less than that Aimpoint pro red dot $699 and a mount$120-150.....

bought the ruger from sportsmans a few weeks ago, how does this one measure up to it?

I bought one from Whittaker a couple weeks ago. Great price and fast shipping. I sent about 100 rds downrange last weekend. These are such fine rifles! Shooting offhand with open sights, 200 yards, at 10" steel gong, and hitting the dang thing often. These M&Ps are such a terrific value. High quality, great warranty.......just suburb.

@acogfun,

You forgot the CC fees + the AR from Whittaker will be back in stock soon. They ran out of this model few times.

Sure but their $499+12 shipping is sold out. This one is only $7 more.

$499 + $12.99 at Whittaker. Great time to buy.

Its definitely a buyers market at the moment but things can change quickly. Anything in the low 500s for this quality ar and lifetime warranty is a steal IMO. I have friends who say to just build my own but after adding up the cost and time of doing that you don't get a lifetime warranty. I still plan on tinkering with it and adding on extras overtime cause it's good to know how to build one. Any extra parts can go on future builds. This is the second best price I've seen for these so far.

Double your money in November. Buy 6 or 10 of these now as an investment in anticipation of Hillary's coronation.

Just purchased and received mine and is well worth the money. It is my first ar15 and am very happy with it. Kentucky gun co. Fast shipping, great customer service. My son in law is ex navy with 2 tours in Iraq and he prompted me to get an ar15 and he said this one is as good as one twice as expensive. I could not be more pleased with the firearm and Kentucky gun co. Was little apprehensive about paying and shipping etc from out of state but was great.

S&W finally wised up and added the dust cover and forward assist bolt.
A couple of months back i was talking with my FFL guy about this rifle and the Ruger AR 556 when the prices were close to the same.
He had said the Rugers were outselling these by an obscene amount.
Now that prices have shot up and you cant find a Ruger at this price, this S&W is a solid deal.

The counter guy at my LGS said the same thing. NO one was buying the old sport once the AR556 came out. It's nice S&W stepped up and spent the extra dollar or two to add FA and DC. We can thank Ruger for it really!
