FYI: Just ordered 200 rounds, shipping was free.
Got the rebate check today, Deal worked out great for me.
Am I the only one doing the math that these are cheaper with the rebate than any FMJ right now, regardless of the JHP performance?
I bought my 200rnds just to shoot cheaper than FMJ..
Expansion doesnt matter to me, this is a cheap way to shoot hp’s for reliability checks. I wouldn’t use this in my carry gun even if it did expand, 124+p hst is my carry choice
These come out cheaper than most FMJ target ammo so whether they expand fully or not, really isn't a big deal. At this price they'd be fine for training or plinking...
Have you ever had a mail in rebate work? Did your mail in ballots ended up in the woods or in a dump because there was an R visible to the mail collector? Ive never had a mail in rebate ever do anything. Don't waste your time or money.
Seems like if they go bang, and have a chance of expansion, they’re a good deal at .25 a rd, right?
there have been a bunch of youtube videos testing the expansion on these. It's not great, in fact Sierra is trying to get these old ones off the shelves to free up room for their newly designed bullet which does great.
Thirty cents per round for hollow point (factoring in shipping ppr)? Seems like a good deal to me.
Except it doesn't expand. https://youtu.be/R_07y9k4GRQ...
You are correct but.....that review was nine months ago. The same reviewer tested again just a little over a month ago and states it's a "night and day difference" in the performance and that Sierra improved these rounds. Up to you whether you get them or not as I don't have a dog in the fight.
Anyone know if there’s a way to tell whether we got old or new batches? Without a side-by-side round to check how deep the cavity is (per video). I bought these, took me 2 min to cut out the UPCs and fill out the rebate. With $50 either way, but hopefully they will be protection-worthy not just range rounds.
Edit: after pulling out a round: mine are significantly longer than my PMC 124 JHPs…so they must be the newer specs...couldn’t really get longer and still expect it to fit.
Is this the video you're referencing?
It looks like you lucked out. Just received mine. It looks as if i got old batch. The dimple on the tip is very shallow. The rounds are standard length, too (not longer in length).
Mine came 12/2/2022. Shallow dimple too.
But due to price, it's 124gr at the cost of 115gr American Eagle FMJ. So it makes sense to buy.
The stuff looks nothing like HST or Gold Dot and isn't skived like it. No way would this ever perform "well" because it's "old" technology.
But because of price with rebate, yes. Buy.
Thank you for sharing. I agree. Although i am tempted to contact the company and ask them to replace my 200 rds with the new stock. It looks like they are AWARE that the old stock is underperforming. So much so that they made a business decision to make design changes to the round. So if they are aware of the defect, why are they still selling their defective old stock? I would not sell anything that i knew was underperforming to MY clients.
Now about the end of the week and no reply from Sierra. Super lame of them.
I am also thinking PSA isn't blameless here. They know what they have and aren't stating it.
You know what?
That's a really going point! We are being sold old stock with no way of knowing. I'm going to reach to them right after writing this.
I was caught up in that the price is good, but you are right. It's crap.
Thanks! Great point!
Let us know the result of your discussion with PSA please.
I think PSA is to blame too, but I reached out to Seirra first. No reply yet, but message sent that I thought it was bad that no sku difference and I wanted help with this.
I think PSA is going to tell us they are selling a SKU, how do they know? But of course, they know what they are selling.
Interesting…going to the range in a bit, so I’ll know better soon whether all were longer or if it was a mixed batch. They are longer than my PMC ammo anyway.
Great. Let us all know how your rounds performed. I think there is another way to predict whether they would mushroom. The shallow dimple and tiny cuts on the bullet (seem indicative of yhe old batch). Compared to other JHP rounds i have, the dimple is too shallow and the cuts on the bullets are too tiny. Barely scratching the surface, really.

I'm not sure why you trust this guys worth a dang, but here's round 2 and he's "very happy"
This video and a couple of other videos do show poor expansion. But. The way i look at it, you are getting 124 grain bullets for around .25 per round. It's not like they don't hit the target or inflict any damage. They do not mushroom enough, but they do expand. In the video, the tip of the bullet becomes flat rurrounded by jagged metal of the "petals". This is enough to stop an attacker. They do have some stopping power. A 124 grain bullet with enough stopping power for .25-.27 may still be a good deal. My .02.
PSA and Seirra never got back to me on shipping old stop ammo.
However, if you bought, PSA uses NORTON which gives you 30 days of price match. It is now listed for $79. Submit a claim and get $20 back.
Shame that both the reseller and manufacturer were MIA in responding.
