Thanks for the info. I find it weird that they don't mention the rebate on their page and the main promotion page on Savages site doesn't mention it unless you select rebates. I was debating on this in 308 vs 338 or a RPR.
I called savage and they said the 308 was good for sub MOA up to about 600 yards. Anything beyond that was getting towards the limitations of the round and accuracy could be greatly effected by ammo type crosswind etc. 800 yards was possible but expect groups to open up unless conditions were perfect. they said to expect the same out of the 24" ashbury model as well.
Translation: this rifle will probably outshoot most people who own it. Just be sure you get a first focal plane scope if you want to squeeze every last bit of accuracy out of a rifle like this. I went with the Burris veracity which has a $100 rebate right now. Universal mania has the best price at the moment on these
I dont know where Savage is getting that 600yards info, Black Hills ammo with shooting skills will easily go 1000 yards +...
I was asking about 308, not 6.5. I know 6.5 is better at longer ranges but I'd like to get a 308.
Any idea what the max effective range for this is? I know that's a subjective question but I've seen some pretty extreme ranges for the RPR. Just wondering if this is comparable at longer ranges.
Got mine today about $650 with transfer. Trigger is amazing, smooth action, stock actually makes sense (I thought I would hate it). These were $1200 when they first came out. What? There is no such thing as a 308 that can also chamber 556. The cartridge is far to small for the chamber, and even if you could somehow overcome that hurdle you'd be sending a 22 caliber bullet down a 30 caliber barrel. I'm not sure what guns you "know" can do this.... but you're mistaken.
Can this also chamber 556 ammunition I know some 308 and 7.62mm×51 can let me know looking to buy possibly this Friday.
308 match rounds can be accurate up to 1300 yards surely much more than 600!
