Anyone bought any of these from the latest batch?
How do they look?
Purchased one of the $119 Tula round receiver models. $20 for sipping and it arrived on a Friday (ordered Monday morning).
I was surprised at the good condition it arrived in. Not caked in cosmoline, but well preserved in it. Stocke was in very good condition, barrel had strong rifling in it. Advertised as coming with a bayonet the only, however, mine also came with the cleaning rod and tool kit.
De-cosmoline it, stripped the old shellac off the stock, and restored it. Two coats of stain and several coats of tung oil and it is ready to roll. This is a hell of a deal. I feel like the gun I received was better than the advertised condition.
3 arrived today at my house...first purchase with my 03 ffl.

just got my Mosin Nagant in today (matched) and de-funked of cosmoline..took her to the range and she performed flawlessly. at 130 yards was grouping a soft ball size group..with open sights..good enough for me ..cleans up easy..i added a supressor and a 1" inch rubber butt stock pad..is a awsome purchase..i took 250 grit sand paper and sanded off the old scratched up finish just enough to leave the origional stamps and stock markings and refinished the stock..she shoots supurb..going to order a few more when they come back in stock..very pleased,,,AimSurplus are the champs !! lightn fast shipping and great comminucation for your shooting needs ,,very happy camper...can't hardly wait to order another Mosin Nagant and experiment with different polomer stocks..thanx Aimsurplus you guys rock !! Did you thread the barrel? I am guessing you used a .308 can. One of the things that bothers is Ob's executive ordered banning surplus rifles. It didn't say US rifles, just surplus rifles. These may be hard to get in the future.
no actually its a muzzel break for the M44 ~it fits over the end of the barrel and around the top of the front sight with 2 lockn screws & locktight,( i had to do just a lil polishing to the inside of the break to get it to fit tight ) ,its helps the recoil with it and the new butt pad,,made it a lot more comfortable to shoot at least 35-40% less recoil..
I think he meant muzzle brake, not suppressor.
yeah it's a muzzle break for a M44..with that and the rubber pad it's not such a shoulder bruzer anymore..
No. It bans re-importation of US firearms to private parties that were either sold or lent to foreign countries. Since the supply of surplus 1903s has been exhausted and the M14 is selective fire it only affects M1 Garands and M1 Carbines. He's trying to shut down the CMP. Importation of Mosins, Mausers, Yugo SKS, K31s, K98s, etc should not be affected. If you were thinking of ordering an M1 Garand from CMP I'd get that order in quick.

I meant m1 garands, lots of confusion. i really want one but cmp seems like a headache waiting to happen and im sure they are overwelmed, i was wondering if aim sells garands ever? Or anywhere else that might?
There are many places that sell Mosins. Classic Arms, Bud's, Widener's, and Centerfire Systems are a few. If you want a neat project order one of the Chinese Type 53's from J&G for $100. With a little work you'll have a nice looking M44 that has a smooth cycling bolt. Here's the one I did. Before After
The stock isn't as big of a concern as the barrel condition. You can replace the stock, but if the barrel is in bad shape, well, the rifle is garbage. Lot of the type 53s that are in supply right now are in pretty rough condition.
Hows the barrel look in that thing? I'd order a few type 53s but afraid of getting one with a bad barrel or receiver.
The barrel is in very good condition. The action cycles very smoothly as well. Much smoother than my Russian 91/30s. I took it to the range and was hitting the gong at 200 yds consistently. Great project gun.
I bought one also and the bolt cycles very smooth and the barrel itself had strong rifling and has been accurate at 100 but i dont have a range to test it past that
Thanks. Stripped the finish using oven cleaner, sweated out the cosmoline, lightly sanded with 400 grit, patched holes with wood filler, used rit fabric dye to stain it russian red (2 parts scarlet to 1 part dark brown), then put 3-4 coats of minwax satin rub on poly. Normally, I wouldn't use sandpaper or modern poly coat on a classic firearm but this was too far gone. No risk of reducing its value and I'll never have to refresh it like BLO.
Maybe I missed it but where does it say 3 month wait? I just checked and they have 37 in stock.
Thanks for the info. I buy a lot of ammo from the CMP, I do need another Garand. For an investment, yea that's it.
Kind of strange that guy got it today and managed to clean it from cosmoline, take it to the range, refinish the stock, thread the barrel... a lot of work for one day.

These are single shot I am guessing? Im a newbie with guns...
I can see where you might think they are a semi-auto with a small internal fixed mag because of there design and I can also see where somebody new would think single shot refers to anything that isn't semi-auto. You should get a book like one of the gun bibles or a book called small arms to research and refer back to. If you are just getting into collecting and shooting you picked a hell of s rough time lol. But it's rewarding and I wish you luck. Also don't be put off by people who expect you to know everything we all had to learn one time or another.
No, they are bolt action. Single shot would be a rifle that only holds 1 round that is inserted directly into the chamber (or muzzle loaded in the case of blackpowder rifles). This is not that. For this rifle 5 rounds can be loaded into the magazine at a time, and after each shot you can rack the bolt to load the next round and be ready to fire again. Your confusion may come from the cleaning rod, which can look like the rod used to muzzle-load a musket...but that's not what it is. It's an old military rifle and the designer wanted to make sure the soldiers always had a cleaning rod on them, so the cleaning rod is included as part of the rifle and gets stuck in under the barrel like you can see in the pictures on that website.
These guys are just saying "yes" because it's not semi-auto and some consider anything not semi-auto to be "single shot" because you have to perform an action between each shot to ready it for the next, and most other gun owners know what they mean when they say it. But for someone completely new (as you say you are) that might be a bit confusing. So we might as well start you off with the right terminology and not call a Mosin a single shot when it is really a bolt action.
For someone new to guns, the Mosin is a pretty dang good starter gun. Cheap as hang for the quality you are getting (they are cheap because they are old and they are ex-military rifles made in enormous quantities and are plentiful, not because they're bad guns...they are quite good guns). Extremely cheap ammo for how large the caliber is (look for old surplus 7.62x54R ammo...the x54R (or x54 Russian) part is important! There's more than one kind of 7.62 round!), durable as can be (fire it out of a cannon and it'll still probably be just fine), plenty powerful enough to take down deer (with the right ammo, people have taken grizzly and moose with it), and if taken care of it will likely outlive you and your grandchildren.
A couple things to be aware of. First: it takes some work to put a scope on one. In my opinion Mosins really are best used as the Russians intended, with good old iron sights. For someone new you'll want to learn on iron sights anyway, and it really isn't hard to hit deer and targets up to 200 yards (or more) with iron sights. Second: they are old. Some of them have been through hell and back. Get them from somewhere where you can inspect it. I wouldn't recommend just grabbing one online...too many variables unless you really trust the place. And third: most surplus (e.g. cheap) ammo is older and corrosive. That's not a huge deal, but it does mean you need to clean the gun every time you fire it (that's actually important for every gun...but when shooting corrosive ammo it becomes imperative). So get some good gun cleaner and some oil, research how to use and clean a mosin nagant, and buy one. I've never in my life heard anyone say "man, I wish I'd never bought a mosin nagant". It may not be their go-to rifle...but they always love it and are glad they spent the money on it.
Also, if you're just the type that loves research, learn about the different types of mosins. Many countries used them and each did tiny things different. The Finnish mosins are especially known for being very nice.
The real problem with these guns - they are noisy. Noisy as hell. Do not shot them in indoor range. Kickback is moderate - no need to buy a creepy butt pad on ebay that is useless and damage image of the rifle.
But person who buys this rifle should wear a very good hearing protection. They shot like a small tank.
Also ammo is only cheap (0.2/rd) if a corrosive ammo is used. But don't. Do not use it - it is bad for the rifle! Corrosive ammo that is offered on low prices was designed for large Russian machine guns when Mosin rifles were long time decommissioned and nobody was planning to use them for this purpose. Unless you clean it right away with windex or another spray with amonia rifle could not stay a night after using corrosive primers. Bore and chamber would be seriously affected. So just do not use it. Non corrosive ammo is 0.5/rd. Not such a great deal really.
Another thing to consider - there is no safety. Whatever safety is there - it is a nonsense. My fingers could not pull this small tab that lets the bolt spring be moved leftward. If you want to carry it loaded, put bolt in your pocket.
I would honestly say - buy it for the last resort rifle sitting in your basement with two cans of surplus ammo for the doom day scenario just in case it would be nothing else there. But it is not good for indoor recreational shooting. It is a way too powerful.
Corrosive ammo is not as big of a deal as many let on. Just clean it after your shooting is done and you're fine.
And since you should be cleaning your rifle once you're done shooting anyway...it's not even really an issue :)

When you have a wife and a kid, things are not so straightforward... I am barely can get a pass to sneak for 1 hour to the range. Once I am back it might be a while until I can get a hold on my rifle. It is a deal for me. I am only using non-corrosive ammo. It is hard to put more then 20rd trough it indoor. Noise is just too strong to handle it. Declaimer - I have a M44 that is noisier because of a shorter barrel.
Great post, just something to note; the R in 7.62x54R isn't for Russian, I believe it's for 'rimmed' because the casing has a rim around the base that is used for extraction.
Rimmed is what it stands for, but I was telling him what to look for when buying ammo, it is commonly marked as 7.62x54, 7.62x54R and 7.62x54 Russian. :)

Bought a Mosin Nagant 91/30 (stamped 1938) locally for $119.95 last month. It came with a sling, two pouches and a bayonet. I will say, this weapon cleans up very nicely using Ballistol. It's accurate out of the box and I recommend a Mosin to everyone.
