Description

Ruger`s AR-556 MPR rifle has a rifle-length gas system which provides smoother operation and reduces felt recoil. The matte black oxide chrome-plated bolt carrier inside diameter and chrome-plated gas key inside diameter provides exceptional resistance to hot gases. Its lower receiver is fitted with Magpul MOE grip and a Ruger Elite 452 two-stage AR-trigger which offers a smooth, crisp, 4.5 pound trigger pull. The flattop upper receiver is made from forged aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminum, and includes a forward assist, dust cover and brass deflector. Its handguard is free-floating for accuracy and features Magpul M-LOK attachment slots along the 3, 6 and 9 positions. The threaded, cold hammer-forged, 4140 chrome-moly steel barrel with ultra-precise rifling provides exceptional accuracy, longevity and easy cleaning. The barrel also provides M4 feed ramps which improves operational reliability, while the matte black nitride finish provides corrosion resistance. The AR-556 MPR has a Magpul MOE SL collapsible buttstock on the Mil-Spec buffer tube and includes a 30-round Magpul PMAG.

I just bought this gun and I'm putting an aimpoint pro on it. Excited to see how it shoots. Might put my bump stock on also to see if it has any issues while firing at a high rate of speed.

Also if you been looking I bought the Ruger Precision 6.5 Creedmoor. That is a beast. Shoots awesome and no recoil. We shot 1100 yds this past week.

Ruger calls it the MPR though.

I bought one on gunbroker for $560 back in October. Excellent rifle, zero issues and tight groups. The trigger is awesome. This is a ton of rifle for under $600.

I ordered Monday. Already shipped. I plan on the Holosun, with acss reticle. Then add a 3x magnifier.

Took mine to the range for the first time today. Put about 200 rounds through it without a hiccup. It has more potential to produce tighter groups than my eyes do. The trigger is very nice once you figure out the game. @ 50 yds you can play connect the holes. @ 100 yds still kept it close together. Very capable combination here.

Kinda wondering why people are commenting about buying this, a rifle with and 18 inch barrel, and then about putting a red dot optic on it. Surely this rifle calls for a 1-4/6 at the very least...

It's a pretty balanced rifle. I had a 16" Armalite w/ carbine length gas and to be perfectly honest I can't tell much difference in the balance for my purpose. The EOtech works nicely on this rifle.

Ordered mine on Wednesday and it was here by Friday afternoon. I also got a vortex strike fire 2 for it. May add different sights later on. Just ready to get out in the field and see how it handles.

good looking rifle every thing is tight, very tight. take down pins need a punch to get out. castle nut isnt staked but that probably wont come loose anyways. gas key is staked in rugers special way (dont worry about it its a taper staking). buffer tube sucks. low quality scratchy spring noise. thats the first thing im going to change on the rifle.

Can anyone recommend good sights for the AR556?

I'm also wondering what sights to get for this. What are good yet affordable iron sights and red dot sights for this?

Magpul MBUS folding sights are your best option. Don't get tricked into buying cheaper ones. Get ones that are proven and will last. If you are going to set the gun up for closer ranges, 50 yds or less, look into the Vortex Spitfire 1X. They go on sale now and then. I picked one for $129 from Cabelas a while back and saw them for $149 recently. Nice product for the money and you can cowitness the folders with this. I have a Vortex Diamondback 4 x 12 40 scope on mine now but it does not allow proper use of the rear folding sight when installed. A nice scope that can be found here for $150 or less if you wait for a sale. Get the PEPR mount and you are set. With the longer barrel, nice trigger and 5R rifling I am going to use this at the 100yd range with a bipod for fun.

Magpul sights for sure. Can't go wrong with em. Of you want a solid economy red dot, the Bushnell TRS-25 is excellent. If you want to upgrade to something with more features, look to Holosun. If you want top of the line reliability, Aimpoint. I run the TRS-25 on my kids AR-22. On my Ruger AR-556, Holosun. If and When I buy a premium AR (My AR-556 does everything I need it to do... including 3 gun), it'll have an Aimpoint.

Received mine and all looks good to go. Gas key is staked, castle nut stacking is no problem as I will replace with sling loop and stake then. Everything is a tight fit, even take down pins were not easy to push out. Great deal for 560. Do it!

Pefect....

I ordered one Monday around 11am from SMG&A and picked it up today at noon from my ffl (N Atlanta area) !!!! The whole process could not have been any better.

Looks great! The upper/lower/buttstock are very tight with no wabble. Finish is nice and clean.

Same here, placed order on Monday, picked up during lunch today. I love this gun so far. Heck, I'm seriously thinking of ordering the second one...

I tried the link, then simply Googled SMGA, and their site can't be found because their server doesn't exist? Maybe some technical issues just today?

I would say yes to technical issues. I was on there yesterday without any issues. Hopefully they have it fixed soon for ya

Is the castle nut staked? How does the gas block look? I have seen some videos where the gas block may as well not have been staked. I am curious because I am considering this otherwise seemingly outstanding rifle.

Gas block? Or bolt carrier

I got my hands on one in my neighborhood store- it's a nice rifle- but the staking in the gas block may as well not have been done- it appears to be for show only... the castle. It is not staked.
I think this is an easy fix with your local gunsmith or for yourself to do in your own workshop.
Would love to hear anybody else's experienc.

I received mine 4 business days after ordering from Smoky Mountain guns and ammo, very impressed with the quality so far. I will be taking to the range tomorrow. Smoky Mountain is offering a great deal.

I received mine today. I have more expensive rifles than this, but from the looks of it is a solid build. Tight fit, nice finish. Just installed the RDS. I think it will compare well against >1K rifles. Can't wait to take it to the range.

Best buy in the current AR market. You could try to piece a nice upper and lower together with a nice trigger but you'll never get the warranty Ruger provides. They are giving these away at $560.
