Description

The Ruger AR-556 is a high quality 5.56NATO/223REM sporting rifle from a recognizable and trusted American manufacturer without the frills of more expensive offerings. This rifle has everything you need in a modern sporting rifle. The AR-556 uses 7075-T6 aluminum forgings for the upper and lower receivers, a shot peened and proof-tested steel bolt and 8620 steel bolt carrier as well as an M4 feed ramp for reliability and durability. This direct impingement rifle uses a carbine length gas system with an adjustable A2 style front post integrated into the gas block and an Adjustable Ruger Rapid Deploy sight to the rear. A picatinny rail on the upper receiver allows for the mounting of the optic of your choice. The AR-556 comes with a medium contour cold hammer forged, threaded 16.1” barrel with a 1:8 twist and Ruger flash hider. Out back, a six position adjustable M4 style butt stock allows for the correct fit to your body type. One 30 round magazine included.

Picking mine up today. My fingers are crossed.

I bought my AR556 last October and have close to 500rds through it with no failures at all. I've used everything except the cheapest of cheap Tul Ammo and everything went down the pipe just fine. My only regret is not waiting a little longer to buy...I paid $579.

This might be a total fluke, but I got a "lemon" from cabelas...and when I was picking up my replacement a month later there was another guy in line for background checks two people behind me returning his ar556 to ruger as well. In my opinion there was quality control issues on these or that was a HUGE coincidence. Either way make sure to shoot it a lot and check it over with a fine tooth comb so you don't get stuck with a dud. I paid less than this after gift cards but still made me question Ruger after being a lifer.

What issues did you have? Also, if you know, what issues did the guy in line have? Is your replacement ok?

Doesn't Ruger have lifetime guarantee? My experience with them has been very good!

How's this compared to the Savage MSR patrol for $20 more? Any thoughts?

The Savage is arguably a better deal since it's a mid-length gas system and has an m-lok forend and better furniture (Blackhawk). The Ruger is 100% US made, has a cold hammer forged barrel, has a forward assist (you can add it to the Savage) and has an anti-glare regulation height front sight. Honestly you probably can't go wrong with either, they are both VERY good deals. Buds won't ship weapons with 30 round magazines to my state (they won't pull the magazine and ship the weapon) so the Buds deal didn't do me any good or I would consider it.

At $449 shipped this rifle is a steal. I assume that Ruger was cranking production all through 2016 anticipating they would be selling tons of these at the $749 MSRP. Since Shillary lost the election they are liquidating stock, while I have many other rifles this is too good of a deal to pass up.

Anyone else having trouble ordering one of these from the site?

How does the Ruger compare to the Colt AR-15A3 (Tactical Carbine)? The Colt costs almost $500 more, so it's probably better quality, but does anyone have experience with both? Is the Colt worth the extra money?

$540 is an amazing deal for this rifle. If you have been sitting on the fence waiting to get a AR/M4 now is the time and this is the rifle for you.
The Ruger is well reviewed and one would be hard pressed to find anything bad said about the rifle.
The AR556 is a accurate shooter right out of the box.
