Looks tempting. But seeing the comments on here talking about how it was sub $500 before COVID and also seeing that I even got them on Sportsman's Guide for $497 in 2018 I can't say $629 is a deal if you can wait it out. If don't want to wait... Then is a decent price.

None of these entry levels are worth a dime over 500! Especially before Covid they were sub 500, and not a damn thing is changed on the guns, any of them in this class! And the triggers are shit! Keep passing on them and you’ll see prices drop. No one‘s going to take away your rights to own a gun! Key point is to wait! And wait and wait! Hopefully the younger generation can understand this. By inflating the prices from $500-$700 they’re trying to make $700 the new $500. This is Democrats making it that much harder for you to buy a gun if you keep purchasing these prices will continue to inflate. ✌️

Wasn't this $800 just a few months ago? Huh....

UPDATE: Could only downvote for one reason. None of the others would work.

I tried to downvote and it wouldn't let me without a link to a better deal. Then I found one and it just wouldn't let me post it. Then I accidentally hit the upvote button and there is no way to change it as far as I can tell. It tells me I already voted. This is not a deal. Save your money.

This is the link for this rifle a while back. $500

What’s your point? That link is from 7 months ago. Pre-COVID, pre-riots, pre-election, pre-defund the police. Things change. In case you haven’t noticed somehow, the world around us has gone to hell. Some folks have suddenly woken up to realize they should probably be able to defend themselves.

I agree with your sentiment, but your post isn’t really “news” to anyone in the greater gun community.

BPuff57 is right, same thing also with ammo, heck even old SKS rifles on gunbroker are selling at a high price.

I've seen these for somewhere close 500$.

How did the price jump 250$????

Have you not seen what has been going on lately? Riots, looting, assaults, defund police departments, democrats threatening to abolish the 2nd amendment, election year, covid-19....these issues have create a "perfect storm" panic buying frenzy and sellers are making big money from firearm sales.

And most of this ended when the orange man stopped stirring the pot, ignoring the pandemic, and inciting the crazies....thank god adults showed up.

Hey Yahoo, President Trump ignored a vaccine into citizens arms in 9 months. He shut down flights from China and Europe otherwise we would have 2-3 times as many dead. About your adults showing up where exactly did they show up in the Rio Grand Valley?

Think about it. Too many price control gun bros out there. Move to Cuba, prices never change there. Compared to 2008 this is still a smoking deal.

This VS the MPR 556?

MPR is 18in barrel, has a full rail and a upgraded trigger system from ruger

I have this model and the MPR, MPR has the Ruger Elite Trigger which is sweet, and the MPR has a 18 inch barrel length, and it is free-float, MPR does cost more, the AR-556 is my go-to rifle while the MPR is stored in a nice case. Love them both but the AR-556 is my home defense rifle.

One helluva deal considering this AR is sub $500.
I own one of these and cant say anything bad about it.

Thanks guys. I was wondering if I would be able to use milspec parts with it to mod it later , if the need arises.

Yes you could

Is the gun milspec?

0 votes

Its just a few things from bein milspec. Its one of the few AR's out there that are considered to be a budget rifle yet with its 'specs' and if it came from a top tier brand, it would easily cost atleast a couple hundred more.
The AR556 is totally worth the sub $500 asking price.

If you are asking about the buffer tube, it is mil spec, not commercial.

Does the rifle meet military specifications? In absolute terms, no. It can't because it's not select fire just like any other AR15. In regard to other military specifications, it meets some and doesn't attempt to meet others. It's less milspec than a Colt or FN, but that doesn't mean that the quality is lacking. What's important is if it is a quality built, reliable and reasonably accurate firearm that's backed by a good company. The answer is yes. It uses AR15 magazines, so no worries in that regard.

Rather spend $600 on a stock (no add ons) ruger 556.

2 votes

The price is now $699 plus $20 shipping. Not sure what it was when you posted, but you can get the AR556 from Ruger for $580 or so shipped on sale. The 5 extra mags are worth $50, so the bipod, quadrail, bag, and scope aren't terribly overpriced. Unfortunately, there's no information on what the actual parts are, so that makes it difficult to make the decision.

Are the accessories really worth it? I was able to come up with ~$100-$150 at most for the included extras so 650-700 for the rifle alone... Thoughts?

Every once in awhile, I'm right. $564 at the time of this post from KY gun.

Never mind, I'm never right. It's a fixed stock version.

bullshit, just 2 weeks ago both SPG and KYGunCo had this rifle for around $560 shipped

3 votes

Duke, its been longer than 2 weeks since a persons been able to get a Ruger for $560.
2 months back, a whole bunch of places were selling these for under $600, now a person is lucky to find these under $700.

Hey Thunder, why? Because of San Bernadino and Xmas sales? Will it come back to $560 again in a few months?
I wish I knew.....Some member on here told me we would never see an M&p sport listed for under $580 again. It was listed for $519 2 days later.
I have a feeling a lot of AR's got dumped after San Bernadino but that surge has fizzled out. I would guess every American that wants and can afford an AR owns one by now. The prices may come down again after the holiday sales rush an San Bernadino panic has subsided. But then again, I'm usually wrong. You may very well be right. The one thing I won't debate is that the Ruger is solid. Glad I got one from KY when I did.
To continue my thoughts, does anyone think AR production will be at full tilt until the 2016 election? If I was a CEO, I woul consider it. After all, a previous Clinton banned them

Smith, i had just suggested that people pick this M4 up at this price while they can as its the cheapest deal out there currently.
Will prices go back to where they were this past fall, God only knows. Who would've guessed that ARs would cost less than AKs.

I believe that AR production will be at full tilt till atleast after the elections.
Depending on the elections we may see a pull back in prices again as manufactures will want to dump overstock. We will see some sales here and there before the elections, but i dont think they will be as ample as before.

Like I said , you may very well be right. I just spent the last 20 minutes in absolute disbelief searching the VZ2008. I bought three Vz2008's last year from Palmetto for $379 with mags and slings. Everyone that bought one needs to take a look now at what they are worth today and their availability. Two weeks ago they were everywhere on Gunbroker. Today there are 2 listings total! For those of us that bought them, we have temporarily scored.
At the time of this post on December 30, 2015, the VZ is almost impossible to find. If you can find them they are $600 plus for auction and I can't find a single vendor with a side folder VZ.
So Thunder, at anytime this could be the lowest price we will see again for a Ruger AR. But the Vz2008 is out of production, the Ruger AR isn't. But we sure as hell could wake up tomorrow to some idiot doing something that raises prices further on AR' and $659 may be a steal.
However, I'm banking on the Ruger coming back down again.
I also have to remember that I was told I would never see 5.56 green tip for under .60 a round again, .22 ammo under .10 a round again, AR's under $700 again, gold under $1200 again, Silver under $15 again, gas under $2.00 again, Y2k was the end of the world and..... Sorry, we will only know the future in the future. We will both speculate as we see fit.
