Bought one a few years back in 9mm. Very tight groups so fit and tolerances are good. One prob I had was extraction. Simple fix once I learned how to pull it out and adjust it (thx Youtube). Another issue was the front sight came loose. It's staked so they are prone to doing that. All that said, I bought it to learn the 1911 and experiment with upgrades. For that, it was the perfect base. RIA is a good value for what you get. However, if you only want one 1911 and you want it to be problem free and nice, spend some extra cheese and look at other brands.
I have this gun in 9mm and absolutely LOVE IT. I have had zero malfunctions. The finish does show wear easily, but I plan on doing a custom Duracoat anyway. Also, I don't exactly love the Mil sights it has. They are accurate, but not quick to pick up. I would prefer the grips weren't smooth, but they do look great and likely most people will customize their gun with their own grip choice anyway. I would buy this gun again. Heck, I may buy another.
I bought one, it was replaced twice due to malfunction. Went back a third time to Nevada for work. Poor finish, shows wear easy and fixed sights were way off quality control is poor- you get what you pay for
Interesting. My friend has three (The compact, the "fatboy" 14+1, and this base model) and not a single hiccup with any of them.
Nice gun for the price. Very close to real 1911a1 except the grips. They're nice grips but not authentic and the smooth wood might get slippery if your hands are wet or sweaty. I replaced mine with a set of double diamond checkered grips. Now it looks spot on. One problem I had was the mags were very hard to insert and eject. I looked inside the mag well and saw the sear spring was protruding too far through the slot in the frame. A quick once over with my dremel tool and the mags were drop free.
The finish on these does suck. It wears and scratches very easily. Usually, I'd opt for the tact version since it comes with some nice extras for only $50 more.
