Please explain why you think the Shockwave is better than the Tac 14. I have several 870s and 590s, one of them being the Shockwave. My first 590 would drop shells out of the loading port, because the elevator wouldn't drop down enough to allow the shell to completely pop out of the magazine tube, and I wasn't being gentle with the action either. It has improved since, but that's unacceptable on a shotgun like that, and I've read that a lot of people have had that happen. I've never had one problem with any of my 870s, and Mossbergs certainly don't have the fit and finish of Remingtons. Although, comparing Remington and Mossberg is like comparing Ford and Chevy; one guy dislikes Mossberg, and the next guy dislikes Remington. I love both, but if I had to pick one, I'd go with a Remington for their fit, finish, and reliability. I'm really not trying to start an argument here. I just wanted to share my experience with both brands. Another thing to note is that Remington has a $60 rebate on shotguns, that I believe includes the Tac 14.

Mossberg all the way. Safety is more ergonomic, lighter, two extractors rather than one, holds an extra round, can run mini shells.....seriously, the Remington tac14 is garbage

Ergonomics is personal preference. Two actions required for the safety on the Mossberg. One move thumb to remove safety then replace on grip, two place trigger finger in trigger guard when ready to fire. One action with Remington hold fire arm securely with thumb around grip, and take finger and release safety then place same finger in trigger guard when ready to shoot. I would rather keep my thumb around the stock for grip control. Raising the thumb makes the grip unsupported and could cause the loss of control to the firearm such as to slip Mossberg when wet. Not likely but possible. Better control with thumb on grip and three fingers on the other side Remington. Extra shell, Mossberg add more weight then the Remington but +1 extra shell so weight is mute issue unless you don’t add the 6th round. I have shot mini shells in the Remington, no problem in mine but your mileage may vary. I like the strap on the Mossberg, might keep someone for removing their hand if they reach to far forward. Like I said weight difference is .35 oz per spec. +1 round gives Mossberg the advantage, I don’t think .35 oz would overload me carrying, it but maybe it will over load some of you, never had a problem with extraction with the Remington so no issue there for the two extractors and apparently no issue with Remington or after all these years they would have changed it, I can fire mini shells so no issue there but I would rather carry 2 3/4” shells then the mini for protection anyway, my preference. Like I said personal preference for your choice as both are fine firearms. I would go with which ever I could get the best deal on. If Remington was garbage it would not be selling or been in production all these years. Just my .02. just think with all the extra weight of the Remington when you run out of ammunition it would make a heaver club by .35oz LOL.

my ass, there is no way ANY Mossberg can compare to a properly tuned rem 870, even taking into account the leaps and bounds that Mossberg has made with their latest models and the new lower Remington QC! as a high volume shotgun shooter I have NEVER seen a Mossberg hold up to the kind of volume of shooting I've done with an 870 no less a beretta, you show me a Mossberg that survives after over 750k rnds thru it and maybe, just maybe i'll change my opinion! because I can show you 2 rem 870 and several beretta o/u that have and as far as the safety and the extra round is concerned it's not remingtons fault that someone doesn't bother to "train" with their firearm...standing in front of a large mirror to see if it looks cool doesn't count!

The 870's of today are not nearly the 870's of 20 years ago. Remington 870's of today are junk. Not trying to start an argument, but no way I believe you have shot over 750k rounds through two 870's and several other beretta's. If several beretta's is just 3, that's 3,750,000 rounds, 15,000 cases, and you said over that. If you shot 200 cases a year it would take you 75 years to shoot that many rounds.

I always thought it was funny that trap shooters thought 5k+ a year was "high volume"! but you are right the 870's of 80's vintage (2 870 that I have I have with over 750k rnds) are of way better quality then today but when I was training for Olympics I communally shot over 5k a week for over 3 years (each beretta) and nuisance shooting on free range poultry farms there was a time when I shot over 1.5k a day plus a 500rnd case (2 flats aka 250 rnd case) of 12ga slugs and 1/2 500rnd case of buck on kill permits every month, now adjust your math please, as it was common for me to shoot a win 101 to the point of being unsafe to shoot in less then 2 years and most brownings in 6 months+
