Remington was/is on the verge of their second bankruptcy. Even the deal to be sold to the Navajos fell through. The other issue is this is a series 80 pistol vs. the preferred 70 series. Also been hearing issues of QA problems.

I just bought the Tisas Zig SS Duty 1911 for under $500

Hate to say it, but the Turkish SDS 1911 is a way better option. I own an R1, and the SDS. The R1 is an embarrassing "Remington" product. Light, with plastic parts, the R1 has seams where the mold was welded. Trust me, I was shocked to discover the poor quality of the R1. Save a few hundred and buy the Turkish SDS. Just the truth...

Not disagreeing that the SDS is a great gun for the price, but my R1 has absolutely none of the flaws you are claiming. Mine is a few years old, so they could have changed in quality, but I am certain mine doesn't have plastic parts or seams from a mold. I wouldn't touch this gun for 699, but for 500 (what it used to be) it is a pretty tempting option.

Owned it for just under a year now... Never had any issues.

I like this deal. Held an R1 at a local shop, and was impressed. Felt very tight. Plus you get two mags and decent sights.
