My worry is ballistics. If you go 5.56 pistol you never want to go under 10.5 for several reasons. So 762 at a barrel length that's barely good enough for 556 makes me worry about not only reliability but round performance. Can anyone give me a run down on a set up like this? Until then off to Google this.

7.62x39 actually behaves much better at shorter barrel lengths then 5.56 because it does not require a full 16" barrel to fully burn.

I purchased one of these back in January when they were first in stock. I inspected it, lubed it up, and headed out to the range. In the course of a aproximately 300 rounds I had 10% failure to feed running numerous brands of ammunition and different magazines (chinese and magpul that both run fine in my ak). I was also making a conscious effort not to touch the magazine or rest the pistol on it. Towards the end of the range outing the charging handle started to feel gritty. I opened the pistol up and the end of the charging handle was nearly sheared off where it interfaces with the bolt carrier. The buffer was also badly battered by the bolt carrier and a large circle indentation was very apparent. Lots of strange where marks in the upper receiver where the charging handle rubbed off all the finish. Sent it back to PSA With a full explanation of what was going on both in writing and over the phone with their tech-support. Got it back quickly with no explanation of what they did. Contacted them and they indicated they replace the charging handle and test fired it 30 rounds with no problems and sent it back. Went back out to the range fired another 200 rounds and still getting the same malfunction not as often, but way more than I am comfortable with. Contacted them and they instructed me to send it back. Now I’m waiting to get it back for the second time. Looks like lots of people are having success with this platform, but I just wanted to report what I have experienced. Asked PSA if they would just give me a credit, but they are very insistent that they will only try to fix it. Really had high hopes for this pistol But would rather not be the guinea pig for this new platform. By the way I found it to be very accurate for what that’s worth. I really like PSA and have had mostly good dealings with them in the past so hoping for the best possible outcome.

I also wonder if s/he tried a few different mags. I have seen AK's (and AR's for that matter) hate a certain brand of mag but run flawlessly with every other mag you can throw at it.

FWIW, I do not own this gun so I cannot speak to its performance. I'll probably buy one soon though as it does not take those expensive and less reliable AR-47 mags. Also 7.62x39 behaves wonderfully in a short barrel.

The KS47 with the SBA3 pistol brace was well worth the extra $100 with additional upgrades like rail, low pro gas block, Enhanced Polished Trigger, and Magpul grip. Out of stock now, but I foresee them coming back in stock hopefully before CHRISTmas. If you are interested I would sign up for their back in stock emails. Their supposed to come out in the next few weeks with Gen 2 uppers, lowers, etc. It sounds like they have the kinks worked out, I’ll let you guys know.

Unfortunately they are very slow to send out back in stock notices. If a real deal shows up it is always sold out again by the time I receive notice.

The back in stock emails are slow sometimes, but are a good back up. The best way to know before others is to sign up for PSA’s email deals. They send them out around 12pm and 5pm during the week. Also order PSA’s stuff through active junky and save up to 6% it easy, it saved about $40 on the KS47! The SBA3 brace one should be back in stock before CHRISTmas.

What type of mag does it take?

Ok, so AK MAGS. Cool. Interesting design.

Most AR's chambered in 7.62x39 are "reliable" enough to be a range gun. My understanding is that due to the tapered nature of the round you need a really curved mag to feed correctly and with a standard lower that geometry just isn't possible. Not sure about PSA's offering however these hybrids are supposed to be reliable enough for real world use.

This looks like it could be the M92 Pap killer for a 'braced' pistol. Now off to read some reviews....

I have several ARs in 7.62x39 (8.5", 10.5" and few 16"). All of them are perfectly reliable with 20rd and 10rd mags. With 28rd mags, I don't load more than 24 rounds. I shoot only Wolf ammo. I have not had a single failure over last 1500 rounds shot.

My newest AR 7.62x39 build has been reliable using C products defense mag, Wolf ammo and a inexpensive 10.5 in barrel which already had feed ramps opened up for the 7.62x39

I've also had 100% reliability using C products magazines in 2 different brand and barrel length AR's in 7.62x39. I lent one magazine to a friend who'd gave up on his rifle....it worked flawlessly. He purchased some because of it.
