Good truck gun for shooting out car tires and shooting from the hip like a badass from the 80s.

I want this, but the price just doesn't seem right. I can get a Mossy 500 at Walmart for under $300.

Why? Same OAl as a pistol grip with 18.5" barrel but less muzzle velocity and less sight radius. You also lose versatility because you cannot legally put a real stock or a folding stock on it. You can't hit moving targets or deliver fast accurate follow up shots with the birsdhead stock like you could with a real stock. The only possible advantage is that it puts your thumb in the right place to operate the safety whereas a pistol grip doesn't. If the safety position bugs you get a Winchester 870 with a pistol grip. This is a bad idea gun.

If you have ever shot a 3 in magnum or even a high powered 2 3/4 with a 90 degree pistol grip you would appreciate this grip a lot more. It helps tremendously with managing the recoil of the more powerful shotgun rounds. Remington makes the 870 not Winchester, also there is no 'sight radius' with a single bead sight. I suspect you don't know enough about shotguns to actually have an opinion.

According to Mossberg's site, a 500 with an 18.5" barrel and pistol grip is actually a couple inches longer than this one. Regardless of that, a lot of guys care more about the barrel length than the overall length, because when you're holding it, the barrel length is what you're going to notice. With that said, this is obviously not the greatest gun for home defense. To me it's just a fun gun to have and shoot once in a while. It's also great for guys who want a shotgun with a barrel less than 18" but don't want to pay $200 just so they can cut it down themselves. At least this one would save the time and money to cut the barrel down, and look a lot better as well.

15 yrs I had to deal with the 870 safety - I hated it. The placement of the Mossberg safety is the ideal location. - you do not have to move your finger to disengage --- If you do what you say - then spend the $200 additional for a stamp. 25 yrs in LE and I would carry this in my car before another 870 --- in fact, if Mossberg puts this configuration on the 930, I will. Do to injuries though, a pump will no longer work for me

Does this have the dog-stopping power to be a duty gun?

The 930 design will not allow something like this to work.

I agree, I love the Mossberg safety location which is why I own a 590 instead of an 870. If for some strange reason I wanted something other than a real shoulder stock I would go with a pistol grip with a legal length barrel, and in that case the 870 safety would be superior. Manipulating the safety on a pistol grip mossberg is even worse than using the safety on an 870. Thanks for your LE service, and may your injuries heal.
