But the ABC's?????

I've used many Colt M4s and 1911s for work. No way I'd ever own one. They are garbage. Countless times I've had bolt lugs shear off and their barrel life is wicked short. Perhaps for $450 these would be a deal.

About $165 more at gunbuyer, you get brand new with Magpul furniture and warranty (free shipping too).
Why would someone wants to spent beat up Colt for $165 difference w/ no warranty & unknown count?

My thoughts exactly.

BUT I would take my chances with anything I listed over one of these. just my opinion and I think most would agree that for a first AR buyer a new fully warrantied starter AR over a 20 year old colt that who knows whats wrong with it is a no brainer. You could end up spending $200 easy on this AR just getting it to reliability run. Or it could shoot sub MOA. The problem
Is you don't know and what's a first time AR owner supposed to do when it craps out? From my experience the AR's I listed are more complete guns than a colt expanse at $100 less if we are trying to compare a new colt at same price point I oulined. Not to mention I had some warranty work done on my light weight commander last year and it was a nightmare! Colt is a mess and there is much better value with other manufactures right now for AR's. 15 years ago this would not have been the case but colt is a dinosaur with technology, customer service, materials, etc... Plus your paying an extra 15% for the name which used to mean something but not anymore unfortunately. Don't get me wrong as I wouldnt mind picking up a SOCOM (no longer manufactured) as a collectors piece and love my delta but colt is no longer a leader or even competitor in the AR game, again my opinion... I also wouldn't mind having one of these used monsters but it's just because of "second cool". Not because they are a better value for what I need. $599 is a lot of money for an old beat up Mil-spec AR in today's market. Just my two cents. We no longer have to buy a name to ensure we are getting a quality product and remember colt basically went into bankruptcy in 2013 in part because is reliability issues with their M4's....

$150 more and you can buy a brand new Colt 6920. This price is too high in my opinion.

Depends on what your going to do. If I were you I would pick something new up with a warranty. Especially with where the price points are currently at. If your looking for great starter at around $500 go with a Windham, smith&wesson, or Ruger. I believe you can pick up their base model for around $450. All comes with lifetime warranty I believe and their all great guns. I provided an example below which is the smith with upgraded furniture for $469! If you have a budget of $699 RRA is a great option which Improvided a link for as well. I would probably start around the $500 mark, that way you can learn what you like and spend more on your next one... Use and abuse it, take it apart, etc.. Thy are addicting, I think I have over 20 AR's at the moment and am trying to consolidate down to my favorites. Good luck! I would stay away from this used colt. No warranty, who knows what it's been through. Nothing worse than having accuracy and reliability issues with your first AR. I kinda want one as its something different and I don't own a colt AR. Save the $150 and buy the smith below. Than use that on a holosun red dot and some ammo. Optics planet has a holosun circle dot for $135 plus 10% off. It's normally $249. Not a better red dot site for the money. Than you have a complete rifle, optic, backup sites, mag, and 2 boxed of ammo for the same price as this colt;).

The Sport is NOT S&W's 'base model,' it's their economy model.

None of the guns you listed are on par with Colt's guns.

That said, I'd be more tempted to either buy this, or a little more for a newer one. Bad part is Colt is sourcing out parts now more than ever.

Sweet! These are actually battle worn instead of that fake battle worn crap that people pay through the nose for. Don't even have to worry about keeping it nice. Might pick one of these up.

Lots of options for NEW ARs from reputable sources that are less. Why a used Colt? I know people love the Colt name, but thats really all it is- lost of others with equivalent quality can be had new in this price range.

I won't be buying this, and I don't own any Colt rifles.

But there are far far far less reputable ones that cost less than people claim. Most of the cheaper ones are plagued by low quality parts and low quality control in assembly.

Hmm you can get one minute furniture for $40 more and furniture is super cheap is going milspec HG. But the cool factor is pretty high with these. I would actually love to have an old beat up colt. I would spend $600 if this was my primary AR but if you have a safe full of AR's this is a little different. Hmmm, should I bite. Wish they were sub $500...

I don't have an AR yet but I've been looking at them for months. Not sure where to start but these looked pretty nice and I do like Colt. Just not sure if I should... Should I look at something else for my first one?
