So a $200 rifle with $80 worth of accessories selling for only $500?

As an update: I’ve since acquired a PSA GF3 and its way more gun for roughly the same price point, and features a forged front trunnion and BCG.

My updated recommendation would be to skip this offering (cast parts, IO legacy etc) and go with a PSA or WASR. I’ll probably be selling this soon

I'm just reticent to buy an American AK again after the Century C39 I bought. I truly believe only ComBloc nations can build proper AKs.

So, looking for some advice here. Never have owned anything like this. So, is this a good deal or not? I’ve read all reviews, good, bad, and whatever else. I’m a gambler sometimes so I’m going for it probably. Will update once I put a few hundred rounds through it. Stay safe all!

I gambled on this too and am very happy... no headspace change after 500 rounds, fit & finish lightyears above my WASR

Good luck! American AKs tend to be a gamble. Some guys have good luck and some guys get shit rifles.
I'd say if it's a range toy and you keep it clean and lubed it'll probably be fine. Just inspect your trunion and rivets and BCG after shooting for loosening and abnormal wear. Those areas seem to be the Achilles heel of American AKs. They apparently can't get the heat treat right or the rivets pressed right for some reason? The commies kick American Aks asses in those areas..

Has gotten through 400 rounds with 0 issues, trunnions and lugs show no signs of deformation. No change in headspace either, no-go gauge is a 1/4” out of the breech

Thanks for taking the time to post up your experience.

Trash AK. Do your research and don't buy these turds.

How did the barrel and the trunnion appear and work?

Barrel looks to be of the same quality and finish as every AR barrel I have, apparently it’s nitrided but I’d have no idea if it wasn’t. Fit and finish is excellent on it. Front trunion and BCG appear to be cast, bolt looks to be billet or forged. This is my first AK so I’m no expert, but finish on all these parts looks great (except Bolt Carrier, has that rough pot metal look). Locking lugs are good to go after 200 rounds with minimal wear, and I haven’t seen any headspace creep so far. Has ran flawlessly with Tul Range Friendly 7.62 steel case ammo. I recently swapped out the Phoenix stock for an East German side folder and it looks great.

Overall seems like a good quality entry AK for $500, I bought it primarily to familiarize myself with the platform. Also Classic claims it has a lifetime warranty on the front trunion, so I’m going to run a few hundred more rounds through it and give you guys an update then. As long as the headspace stays in spec I have no worries about this gun and am glad I took the chance

Why bother with a $500 cast trunion instead of a $500 all forged setup from the latest Riley Defense or Palmetto's GF3 offerings? Really don't think this AK is worth it at this price.

Just because a rifle is forged doesn’t mean it will run well... I’ve heard several reports of GF3’s with FTF/FTE & other issues. I’ll take Euro built over US built any day

Thanks for all the details Aussie and Navy Vet. I was skeptical and also thought the description was suspicious.

Update on my purchase:
Action was a little sticky out of the box (BCG hitting the Tapco G2 trigger hammer during dry fire bolt cycling) but this is not noticeable during live fire. Regardless I’ll be polishing the hammer to reduce that contact. Also the rifle was dirty with blackish debris out of the box.

However the front sights & gas block are both dead on, zeroed by the factory I guess. Headspace is still good to go after 200 rounds, and I’m checking it while the barrel is hot. Overall solid workmanship for a $500 gun + mag kit. Also the Polish mags supplied have some wiggle, but Magpul and Bulgarian mags I’ve tried lockup great with no play

Junk. Rebranded crap

These are the same as IO. Worst ak money can buy. Low quality parts that will break

Also, Classic claims the receiver, bolt carrier group, and trunion are the same ones that Pioneer uses on their “full auto AKs for military contracts”. This statement leads me to believe the trunion has to be either billet or forged, but the fact that this information is totally absent from Classic’s description makes me nervous... there is a good chance it’s cast IMO

This is confusing - the post reads “Pioneer” - which is I.O. or Inter Ordinance. Later it claims it’s James River. Claims a Polish barrel but never known a Polish barrel to be nitride. And a whole lot more...

Either someone messed up or this is deceiving for a reason.

Having done as much research as I can on this let me attempt to clarify...

This is a Pioneer Arms Sporter AK rifle made in their Radom, Poland factory. That rifle is then shipped to JRA here in the US, who substitute the minimum amount of parts possible to make it 922r compliant and thus legal to sell here in the States. I believe the parts they sub out are the buttstock, grip etc.

From what I understand, IO was a previous importer of these rifles, or these rifle parts. Reading Classic’s description they specifically call out that these are not anything to do with ‘previous imported Frankenrifles’ (I’m assuming they’re referring to IO).

From what I’ve read about Classic best to take that with a grain of salt though - I’ll give you guys an update once I’ve picked mine up and put some rounds through it

Wish me luck guys... took a chance on this as I’ve wanted familiarize myself with AK pattern rifles for a while now. I’m well aware of the issues with a cast front trunion, but it has a 1 year return/replace warranty, and a lifetime front trunion warranty, so I’m willing to gamble. My goal is to put as many rounds as possible through it inside of a year and see how it looks. Would like to hear anyone else’s experience with this rifle

They included a free "recoil buffer" so their cast parts might survive the first 500 rounds. Sad....

Horrible reviews by ‘AK Operators Union’ - real Radom Polish imports are about $1,000 + so you get what you pay for. Cast receiver??

How can the Polish barrel be nitrided?
