"Carry a .25 if you must, but whatever you do, don't ever load it. If you load it you might shoot it. If you shoot it, you might hit someone. If you hit someone... and if he ever finds out about it... he may become very angry with you."

...just classic.

I own this very model as well as the Hp22a. Had the 22 and liked it so much I grabbed the 25 at this price. I also have the 5" barrel and the mag with the pinky grip on it for the 22. Was able to find .25 fmj at a local gun show 20$ for 50 rnds. Have a couple of hundred through the 22 and a couple of dozen through the 25 and not a hiccup. They are easy to shoot, accurate and little to no felt recoil. Great to give a beginner at the range to teach safety and fundamentals. Also a great cheap glove box or tackle box gun. Please note the 25 and 22 barrel/mags are not interchangeable. Simply don't fit together which makes sense because one is rimfire and the other centerfire. In my opinion these are head and shoulders above Jimenez or cobra despite the cheapo price tags.

Is this gun reliable? I'm tempted to buy this for my wife who is petite and much more comfortable shooting small calibers. She wants to have protection that a firearm offers when home alone. I'm only interested in this though if it is absolutely 100% reliable you know? Can anybody comment on this guns reliability?

I have a .22 version of this and every pull of the trigger has caused a reliable shot. No misfires. This is nice and small for a lady's hand, though it's a little heavy for the size, but it's something you get used to right away. For the price, this is an ideal piece.

No experience with the gun itself but .25 cal is not reliable for self defense. Better off with a .22 LR and way better off with a .22 Magnum even though the Magnum is only available in revolvers for all practical purposes. .32 does not offer much more than the .25 either.

We have had the blued version for about 2 years now. Probably about 500 rounds down range. When we first got it, it had a bad habit of the round catching on the bottom of the barrel when it was cycling. There was a small machine blemish that left a ridge just big enough and in just the right spot to catch the edge of the casing and keep it from loading. 30 seconds with some crocus cloth and problem solved. Fires like a little sewing machine now. Everyone talks about the small calibers not being a good idea for protection. I agree that bigger is certainly better, but I promise that if you shoot someone with this gun (or ANY gun), they are going to think twice about whether attacking you is worth it or not.

At any rate, this is a reliable, fun gun to shoot once you overcome any QA issues.

25 is not an acceptable caliber for personal protection. A 22 magnum will recoil about the same and has much better energy and penetration. You could also get a full size 38 or 380 which would be very effective and still have light recoil.

I've had the hp22 for about three months and it's perfect. Over 1,000 rounds and only a few ejection problems and that was from a bad mag. Just pried the mag lips open more and was fine. Not quility built like browning or ruger but I wouldn't choose another 22 over it. It's a pocket or full sized 22 with changing the barrels. With the 3 in . barrel super compact, very skinny, but it is heavy, sights suck, the fact that you can change the barrels from 3 tio 5 inch is what really sold me. And they both work perfect. Buy one you won't be disappointed espeaically for price. Lifetime warrenty. Quality control might be an issue but they"ll fix it or give you a new one for free but mine so far is great.

I guess the only hang up I have is that fact that .25ACP is so expensive! Seems it's more than 9mm and even .40 and it's just a baby pea sized little bullet (I suspect mass production of .25ACP is pretty low and thus why the cost is higher). I saw one poster who said you can change out the barrel and mag or something for like only $50 so to convert it to be able to shoot .22LR. Can anybody confirm that this is so and also if those parts are obtainable? If the gun is that versatle, makes this deal even more appealing...

I have the .22lr range kit version of this. Works well, only downside is the pistol is a pain to take apart and get back together, the spring always wants to go flying. You can even buy the barrel and magazine from their website and convert to .22lr for under $50.

Wow. $108 for a functioning pistol with an alloy frame, steel slide, grips, sights, screws, springs, and a magazine.

Something to think about the next time you buy an unfinished $100 lower, a $200 trigger, a $500+ alloy can with a baffle in it, or the infamous $170 LPK.

Amazing isn't it? Oh well, from the looks of it, I guess some will never stop justifying stupid. Who's next?

That 108 dollar price tag tells me one it was made overseas and two it didnt cost blvery much to manufacture making me question its quality/qc

You probably drive a Yugo and think Taurus guns are overpriced luxury goods.

Does it honestly function though? I know hi-points are jamomatics especially the lower cals so im afraid to touch anything under 200

a lot of people say hi-points jam a lot, my dad has a little hi-point compact that is not near as big as the older duty weapon length barrel "bricks" that are common. I have heard many people say they function reliably--I personally do not like them, and would not carry one for defense myself at all just too big and heavy.
but if it functions, and this is all you can afford, try it and make sure it is reliable -- anything is better than nothing.

My only experience when i posted that was with a friends 380 hipoint and that thing was a joke, their so cheap though that he resold it for what he paid new. Since then ive used a a carbine in 9m and it functioned flawlessly but those are my only experience i may give the 45 a try just for a range toy because i wouldnt feel bad about not cleaning it

i see you met our friend the second amendment, allow me to introduce you to our buddy named capitalism...

not sure it makes some one "stupid" because they spend $200 on a trigger set up. theres a difference between the quality control, machining, materials, precision, expectations for longevity, as well as target audience/market, between a .25 acp handgun and a trigger for competition shooters where a fraction of an inch means everything.
