Got in on this Monday. Shipped same day. Picked up yesterday. CDNN is in Texas so I paid tax. My first Aluminum frame 1911. Very light points and handles well. Note, this is aluminum frame with throated barrel and not ramped. Frame does not have a frame insert either. Just fyi. For price point it is understandable. Fit and finish is good. The thin grips help it carry nicely. I have not taken it to the range yet. Trigger is real gritty and lots of creep but i have sear and hammer jigs so that will change soon.

update:
took this to the range. after 100-150 rounds the trigger cleaned up quite a bit. less creep and grit, but still not superb. I did a basic trigger job on it today and now it is great. I'm really liking this piece. the fit and finish of both the aluminum and steel parts are quite a bit better than the Filipino sourced 1911's for the same price point. The groups were good, although mine shoots about 2" low at 15 yards with my handloads. actually shoots POA if you use the fiber-optic as center. I prefer 6 o'clock hold. all-in-all i'm quite pleased.

If you want a solid, reliable commander-weight 1911, this is a good choice. I bought one a couple of years ago when Para was running their $100 rebate, alongside a full-size stainless Elite. I think the commander may even shoot better than the Elite. It's certainly easier to carry.

Paras have good components, are well-constructed and reliable.

I bought this pistol during the rebate offers in late 2014.

In the intervening 19 months, it has proven accurate and reliable. You would be hard-pressed to find a better-shooting Commander-weight 1911 for anything like this price. The only thing I changed was to swap out the plastic grips for Pachmayrs.

This is a link to a Gunbroker fixed-price listing from Tanners Sports Center, which is a very reputable dealer in Jamison, PA. I've bought at their retail store a number of times.

I don't have a 1911, and this price is very tempting, but a little voice keeps tell me "a 1911 is not something you buy on price." Of course, when you search any gun model, you'll find problems. Para seems to be mixed with regard to reliability. Does anyone know if the reported FTF problems are specific to the double stack models?

You have to register for gunbroker ...otherwise it would be on!

A link to an auction?

I was going to be vaguely pissed off that the price had dropped since I bought about a month ago, but you are correct, links to an expired auction. Bogus deal.

If you check the the new listing it's still available.

Can anyone out there speak to how much wider the grip is on Para's double stack 1911s?

This one isn't a double stack is it?

No, it is not. If I'm not mistaken, most Para double stacks hold 14 rounds.

not as much as you might think due to super thin grips, but I personally wouldn't trust any "description". pretty much gotta hold one, which isn't always possible I know

Can anyone speak to how much wider the grip is on Para's double stack 1911s?

I hope someone can answer this question. I was told there is no difference and that the double stack and single stack mags work in the same guns, but I am hesitant to believe this. I would like to buy one for my wife, but I don't know if a doublestack gun would have a wider grip.

Been doing some research online and yeah, the grip is definitely noticeably wider. No idea how much wider though.

The width is roughly the same. This is done by using thin grips on the double stack. Regular grips on a single stack 1911 are, again, close to the same width. BUT, the circumference is bigger on the double stack. You could put thin grips on a single stack 1911, but generally have to change out the grip bushings for shorter models. Magazines are not interchangeable between double and single stack models.

Also this gun is a single stack model, if this is the one you are referring.

Bought it. Shot it. Recommend it.

Looks much like the Para LTC Commander I have owned for a couple of years. If the same gun it is a great shooting pistol. Light weight and feeds any ammo I've put through it as long as you use decent mags. This price is amazing especially with the free shipping.

Looks like this is $399 after $100 rebate, not before.

Yes but it adds to cart as $399, so maybe a price mistake or a new, lower price?
