I just bought one of these last week and took it to the range yesterday. I put over 100 rounds through the pistol without any malfunctions. It is very accurate and will make a very capable concealed carry weapon. This is a great deal on a great pistol.

My LC9s has been very reliable and accurate although I've downsized to a DB9 for easiest carry. I'd sell the LC9s but I'm buried in it after the price drop following the EC9s' introduction and equipping it as my EDC, 2xRuger extended mags, TFX Tritium Pro Sights, and laser that mounts on the side using frame pins. If it would just fit in the back pocket of my jeans like the DB9 does, I could ignore the fact that its about 50% heavier.

Tell me about your experience so far with the DB9?

Has been my primary carry for the last three years, reliable from day one, break in was 100 rounds of WWB and Fed Champion 115Gr FMJ, carry ammo Fed Classic 115gr JHP.

My theory is the smaller and lighter the gun, the more often you will carry it. I've pocket carried a Keltec PF9 (light and almost as small but man that trigger is long and heavy) for about 6 years, and the LC9s (sweet trigger but noticeably heavier slapping against my leg in cargo shorts) for about three years, but the DB9 is so much lighter than the LC9s, and just a little smaller then either the PF9 or LC9s, that with a Boraii pocket holster the DB9 prints square like a cell phone and fits in the back pocket of my jeans, none of the others will allow that carry option. If I carry IWB, my choice is the LC9s with laser, night sights and 9+1 rounds (all the bells and whistles but thin and light enough its easy to conceal) but I usually go pocket carry with the DB9 because its so convenient.

Obviously I am describing the older DB9 Gen 3, I just got my Gen4, yes I have two now, and it did a fine job with the FMJ break in except the rear sight went floppy after about 75 rounds just like in most of the reviews, and explained why my shot pattern started getting really wide left to right. Not a big deal to re tighten and I plan to upgrade to tritiums anyway. Currently carrying the Gen3 as it earned my trust (faithfully dumping a few mags on each range trip over 3 years) and need some more FMJ rounds and then my carry ammo too thru the Gen4 with the new sights before I plan to switch over.

Overall, the guns are cheap, have a lifetime warranty, and good customer service if you should "get a bad one" or have any problems at all.

Cabellas price matched this for me today. Now just need to see what I want to do with the fixed Sights. Not a lot of options.

I had the lc9s but I traded it in recently. I liked the gun but too many stove pipes for CC. Maybe I’ll give this a try. Have mags, holsters

My EC9s has about a 7% failure rate. Haven't decided what to do with it yet. Maybe I got a bad one, idk.

Assuming its been broken in with 100 rounds of brass factory 115-124gr FMJ ammo, good form/grip (limp wristing isnt an issue), and you have tried more than one magazine, 7% failure rate is unacceptable and needs to go in for service. Describe the problem fully, any patterns you've noticed, and pull out your phone and take pics of any jams at the range so the issues are clearly illustrated and fully specify the ammo you were using for customer service, heck send in the spent casings of the rounds that jammed too. The EC/LC series are designed to be carry guns and should be 98%+ reliable (even with factory ammo you get a bad one every now and then). They are subcompacts with limited mass so I use 115gr std/non P+ ammo, and even after break in, I load my mags with a FMJ on top to ensure the rough JHP lip doesnt hang up on the feed ramp with a tight/full mag and then JHPs for rounds 2-9 in my Ruger 9rd mags.

Plus ruger mags are the easiest to get. Try getting savage mags. Stupid. Every store I go to has a whole section for ruger

For $209 out the door, what do you expect? You can get the LC9S for $246 sometimes with 2 mags but I think those vendors all charge shipping. I had an LC9 (non striker fired) I sold on armslist for $250 and upgraded (or downgraded?) to this and am very happy. It's a compact CCW pistol so adjustable sights are not a big deal to me. Whittaker Guns shipped same day and I had this in hand 2 days later.

My coworker bought one after I told him how great my LC9s was. He shot 100 flawless rounds and was very happy with it. Recoil is comparable to Shield. Trigger is smoother than a standard Shield but with a longer take up. The slide serrations are more aggressive than my LC9s and I like them more. This is an awesome deal especially with free 2day delivery.

Does the ec9 have a fire pin block? The ruger lcp 2 does not and this lead me questions all ruger future products.

Magazine disconnect safety, nooo sir...

agreed! that's the EXACT reason i don't own 1! all my training has always been to keep pistol loaded and ready when on my person...
that said, some LEO I've trained like it so they can render pistol useless if there is a chance of it being taken during a fight...

I will tell you that if you think the Shield is far superior to the LC9, you are mistaken.I shoot the Ruger better.I own both & I can tell you that Ruger has a better trigger without a doubt. Its almost too good actually. It almost needs a safety IMO.Its size & ergonomics make it an excellent carry option & I often choose it over the Shield.I have shot the G43 plenty & I like it b/c it is a Glock & I’m a self admitted fan boy based on my personal experience w/Glocks.
The 3 have their pros & cons but can’t go wrong with any of them.LC9 is the best bang for the buck IMO

A dig at S&W Rebates. I purchased an S&W Shield earlier this year. The rebate process at S&W was a nightmare. The rebate processes at Walther and Remington run relatively smooth. Still, it's better to get the money up-front. Thank you Ruger!

But you forgot the biggest thing. The Shield kicks the living shit out of the LC9 or any variant thereof.

They are both garbage, I wouldn't carry either. I do sell a lot of shields but mostly to the glock fan boys.

My 45 Shield makes bigger holes than your puny little 9mm Ruger so there's that.

0 votes

Okay? My 12 gauge makes holes bigger then both of them....what's your point?

2 votes
0 votes

I've NEVER heard that about the Shields, not even close.

1 vote
0 votes

Me either, They're just talking shit about the shield 9 because they're jealous! That's why they're talking so much. I'd rather catch the shield on sale with a lifetime warranty also rather than the Glock or the other Cap guns, lol.

1 vote
0 votes

Ruger has no written warranty but pretty much repair any gun no matter how old it is. The Shield has never been this low without a rebate and the Glock will never be either way. You all love comparing things without anything in common, don't you?

0 votes
0 votes

The trigger on the shield is better. That's about it. The LC9s doesn't have a bad trigger either and is a bit smaller. Both handle recoil pretty well.

0 votes
0 votes

I have to disagree. I love my Shield, but I absolutely hate the trigger. It took me a good 300 rounds just to get comfortable with putting a group on paper (and they're still not great). Two magazines in to a buddy's LC9s, and I was already shooting it better than my Shield. I don't much care for the ergos on the LC9s, but the trigger blows away the competition.

Yep. It's an economy version of the LC9s.

Integral Sights means no installing aftermarket Tritium sights like I did on my LC9s but dropping the price by over $100 is a pretty good tradeoff IMHO. I'm assuming the trigger is the same as the LC9s which is sweet. You can buy a couple of 9rd mags instead and still be money ahead, although it still aggravates me when they only supply one mag with a brand new pistol.
