The hottest rimfire available on the market today, the .17 Winchester Super Magnum Ammo delivers increased velocity, reduced wind drift and more knockdown power than the venerable .17 HMR. The 20-gr. bullet boasts a 3,000-fps muzzle velocity and 400 ft.-lbs. of energy. Two bullet types and weights cover most shooting situations. A 20-gr. Jacketed Hollow Point provides controlled expansion for larger predators such as fox and coyotes, while the polymer-tipped bullets deliver explosive performance on small varmints like prairie dogs and woodchucks. Per 50.

Lancek1978- I used to think like that until trying an HMR.

In addition to season limitations and fur harvest advantages, the 17 HMR and WSM produce less noise, recoil, heat buildup. No more need for a barrel cooling system in long strings of fire like Prairie dogging. The lower recoil allows you to maintain visual of the target through the hit even with a lightweight field rifle. If you're packing in to the hunt sight, ammunition weight becomes a concern. I've replaced two .223 barrels but have yet to replace an HMR barrel due to loss of accuracy. The A17 ammunition has improved the range of the HMR and the A17 rifle has removed the greatest hurdle, maintaining sight picture while running the action. The performance gain over 22 WMR and advantages over 223 Rem ensures longevity for the HMR cartridge.

The 223 does have longer range and better wind bucking. Ammunition availability is better if you pack the wrong ammo can and have to buy on the road.

Is this 1 box limit a winning marketing strategy for Cabela's???
I mean, after shipping these are priced outrageously high.

It must be a winning strategy. They've been doing it with 22LR since Ammogeddon started. They always sell out...one box at a time.

Ammo limits are the only way to keep one jackass from buying everything up and reselling on Armslist or Gunbroker.

This just hurts. .17 WMR will never get on the mass market level, if it is so much more expensive the .22LR... Wouldn't even get near a .17 rifle, when the bullets cost so much. Ouch

This is competing with centerfire ammo, why are you comparing its price to 22lr?

Picked 3 boxes of these up today at Wally World, aka Wal-Mart, they had 10 boxes sitting there at a lower price. Now waiting on the new stock from Boyds to ship. They also had the rifle in stock.

This is a really wicked little new round. Finally got the scope sighted in on my Savage I bought through gun.deals portal for $299 shipped. Took it down to the lease and killed five cayotes from 50-200yds, one shot each and dropped them everytime. I have a new favorite varmint rifle now. Gun was priced right and ammo is cheap. This is a must have if you like medium range varmint hunting. The Savage is super lightweight and deadly accurate. Don't hesitate, buy one the next time they come up for $299 shipped, I think it was Sportsman's Outdoor Wharehouse I bought it from, shipping included.

I don' know what a cayote is but I do know this round is badass. Shot a friends .17wsm the other day and I think it is going to be my next gun purchase. Once people learn about this caliber the .17hmr will nearly disappear like the .17 mach2 has.

I never did really understand why one would pick a .17 HMR or WSM over a .223 round? The cost of the rifle is a bit more for the .223, but the ammo is very similarly priced and the .223 offers much better ballistics, range, reliability (versus a rimfire round). I guess if you were hunting for the hide and you wanted to minimize the damage to it, then a smaller round might be better? Just thinking out loud...

Rhode Island is one of the states where only certain times of the year you can use a center-fire cartridge. This B-Mag would open the season times for us.

Same reason there are VW's in the world not everyone wants to be the same and drive a boring Honda or Toyotas. Have 7 .223/5.56 rifles, B.Mag is an inexpressive rilfe to purchase fun to shoot. Firearms are a hobby to me, logic flies out the window when dealing with any hobby.

In some states in order to hunt Coyotes and other game during the night you must use a rimfire caliber.
