You can stash your food and water in this. Hope you aren't very hungry. Hope you don't have a large family. And this will keep your ammo nice and tidy. Too bad your AR won't fit as well. So what good is this for again?

I wouldn't waste too much time on William; he has claimed to work on a ship, a few months ago lived Alaska, then making ridiculous amounts of money on an abandoned air base, and now he is a retired rancher in Texas?!? His knowledge of all things and omnipresence cannot be matched. Please do not doubt his ability to stand on a 5 gallon bucket or cook brisket....

If I was going to lie,I would make up something way better than working in Alaska. That was very hard and life consuming job.And yes, it paid very handsomely. And it was Better than the shit job you have,Chief. One of these days you may grow up and get yourself a good paying job.But I doubt it.Don't like my stories, don't read them. But it seems to keep you entertained, right? You seem to read every damn one of them. You must have my posts on speed dial.Yes,I did make a lot of money.I am very comfortable.I still make more money than you do being retired.Little shit like you makes what?$25K?$35K?$45K?No, don't tell us.We don't give a crap. You are one of those Hillary supporters that pray MW would go up so you can at Pizza Hut more often. Then again,do you even have a job?I know you are a Liberal(sucking off Resident Obama and condemning President Trump every chance you get)so maybe you just live off everyone elses taxes. You just can't believe others could possibly make more than you.I don't have to prove anything to a little shit like yourself. You got a lot to learn, kid.Getting a $300 Mossberg rifle is the highlight of the month for your sorry ass.Wooptee-fuckin-doo.So long, asswipe.Enjoy your very nice rifle and your sorry life.At least I hope you get it.You have been crying all month on how they RK guns didn't treat you right and how so and so was mean to you.Grow up and become a man.

"If I was going to lie,I would make up something way better than working in Alaska." Alaska, air base, ship, Texas? Yeah, you would certainly "make up something."

The rich scuba ninja who moonlights as an underwater knife fighting instructor doesn't even know where the spacebar is yet is a captain of industry? Seems.super.legit.to.me....at least I can afford more than a 15 year old bucket to hide my steel case in and I actually own land. You don't have to prove anything to me...you're right, but you are trying mighty f-in hard to impress a bunch of people via the internet yet you cannot even keep you "stories" straight. BTW Duane D, "stories" is a perfect way to describe your yarns.

Deflect much?

It's a storage container that can be buried. You don't have to store -only- ammo in it, geez. There could come a time that hi-cap mags are outlawed. Or AR-styled lowers. Lots of scenarios where one may want to discretely store items that may be against the law to own one year, but OK to own again a different year. Not to mention benefits if there was a SHTF situation of some type. And if you're not alive to dig it up and use it - no great loss, you won't miss it.

Not a crazy idea at all. Only question is the longevity and structural strength, which, by looking at the construction, isn't terrible. I've seen buried PVC crack/break, especially if not pressurized. $17 is a bargain compared to what my time is worth to make something from PVC.

'hi-cap mags are outlawed.Or AR-styled lowers'...well, don't post that shit on FB or youtube and keep your frakkin mouth shut. No one will know you have them.If the ATF are so interested in searching your property,I'm sure they will use metal detectors on your grounds as well. They ain't f'n stupid. You have uppers and .223/5.56 ammo laying around the house, they are going to figure it out.And I don't think this tiny container is going to hold your uppers and the rest of your AR stuff.

LOL, you're really kinda special. Someone made the implication about storing ammo in it. Pointed out other uses. I don't know about being "tiny", as it will hold 16 AR mags. It also seems ridiculous that the ATF would come and want to search semi-arid desert, juniper and sage for a few lowers and hi-cap mags. Especially when their detectors will be going bonkers with all the old rusted farm equipment, old baling wire, and so on tripping detectors, LOL!!! Uppers? No, not worried about them, have never seen an upper/barrel that was scrutinized, or subject to restrictions by fearmongers. .223/5.56 is common in many other rifle configurations, easy to say that I'm simply keeping it (and the 7.62x51) for my bolt action rifles ;) Not sure if you're aware - but there's bolt-action uppers for AR style barrel assemblies, as well! ;).

Could also talk about the time it was illegal to own gold in bullion form (but yet, it's legal as of 1974)...

And descent 5 gallon paint buckets aren’t much cheaper..

Where you getting your 5 gallon buckets at?Buckets by PRADA?Bucket for $3.25 and lid for $1.38.Less than $5.00.MUCH less than $17.And larger as well.If you crack a Lowes bucket while burying it that would be your fault.I have buckets that have been sitting in the yard for 10-15 years that are still in great shape. If you are worried about water tightness, place a 5 gallon bucket in the ground then smaller waterproof containers to hold whatever you are storing. Double the protection.

There are different grades of plastic buckets; HDPE, PE, and other types. Various prices. Depends on the application. You can also purchase flip-up back-up sights for $20. And polymer lowers. Cheap steel-cased ammo. Yep, those will all do the job, I suppose. And may fit the need for some. But if I am going to the extent to secure something in the ground, the extra $10-$12 for something specifically designed for that application is worth that $10-$12. Same way I've never shot steel cased ammo, and spend the extra for brass. I've also seen how these plastic buckets collapse with weight. Also how the lid seals have failed, if there's uneven pressure. But that's just me. Again, by the time I will have properly double or triple sealed (at additional costs/time) any contents in a sub-$5 plastic bucket, I could have spent that time smoking a brisket. Just not worth the time to me, to save a few bucks. Amazon's got $40 Chinese ACOG's, as well! Lord knows they're just as good as a Trijicon...

I'm not saying don't buy this product, just saying there are many alternatives to this.As for double-triple sealing your items, that should be done anyways along with oxygen absorbing packets. How much weight are you placing on your buckets to collapse them?I can stand on one and not collapse it with my 215lb frame.A few inches of dirt won't weigh that much. And the few Walmart 5 gallon buckets we feed animals in have been sitting around for 10-15 years without cracking. In the sun and even freezing water inside them. And they are buried to where only a few inches of the rim is about ground.I really doubt placing them a few more inches below the ground will have any different effect on them. And how long do you smoke your brisket for?10-15 minutes to seal your ammo/cash.Tops.Hope your brisket didn't turn out raw.I always shoot steel cased ammo. No use spending another $100-$200 at the range when I don't have to.Since I clean my guns every trip,I don't worry about the gun being 'dirty'.I save my brass for my SHTF cache.Personally,I have so much land that I can place a yellow car out in the open in the middle of my property and no one would ever see it.Even on googlemaps. So I really have no need to actually bury something in my yard to protect it.But it is fun to see what others are spending their cash on.

LOL, I smoke my briskets for 11-12 hours, my bad for not clarifying - was talking about the prep; hand trimming, hand-rubbing the seasonings, and so on.

With 2300 acres "out west", I also have land. Buy a lot of farm and feed supplies that come in plastic buckets. Use them for all sorts of stuff - storing irrigation pipe parts (sprinkler heads, drain plugs, risers, swather guards, rake tines, and the list goes on). Have never had a plastic bucket last any longer than a couple years, if outside. UV is the bane of plastic, turns them brittle, scientifically documented, yours must be something unique to last 10-15 years outside. Freezing water? Mine always split bottoms when they get water in them and freeze (zero and sub-zero temps are not uncommon in deep winter). I'm guessing you've probably got super-duper buckets. Have never seen the heavily UV-treated outdoor furniture last more than a few seasons, either. Not sure what you'd be feeding, that would require most of a 5 gallon bucket placed into the ground - my horses and cattle -might- stick their heads down that far, but what's the purpose?

Most everyone familiar with 5gal buckets is very aware that although you can easily stack weight - side collapsing is a frequent occurrence.

Being diligent and watching sales, I purchase brass ammo (5.56 and 7.62x51) for at, or only a few cents per round higher than the steel stuff. Bonus is, if I shoot it, I can reload it (except for some surplus I have), which also negates the price difference between steel/brass. I understand, I bet you reload your steel, and have good luck with that as well.

As I think we've both stated, it's a matter of personal preferences. I just am not going to be cheap on something I may have to trust my life to. Extra $10 or so when protecting a few hundred dollars? Not even worth thinking about.

Wow.You are just full of questions today. We feed/water our small animals from them. They have removable plastic plugs that 6" deep. Not our horses or cows. And when I say 'we',I am referring to my wife. She gets credit for looking after the livestock. We don't have quite that much property...145 acres is plenty or me ;).Down here in Texas land is quite expensive.A development corp has been hounding me for 5-6 years to sell to them.Since retiring a few months ago(the third&final time),I think I am about ready to give up this heat and move to my vacation house in Branson. It is still big enough to take all our animals but will need to build a barn for the livestock.I can deal with going from 145 acres to 22,just not sure I am ready to pay MO state tax.I'm not sure what scientific project you are referring to on plastic bucket deterioration. But if you could send me the link to that documentation, well,I probably wouldn't read it.And stack weight? We are talking about burying these in the ground. Not stacking 10-15 loaded buckets on top of each other. You are grasping at straws now.And since these will be buried, what UV light will they be absorbing?Again, grasping at straws.I just know the Walmart buckets we purchased back in about 2005, we still have 14 of the 20 we bought.A couple being tore up by the dogs and a few being stepped on by cows.None are 'brittle' as you say.Not to mention the 6 55 gallon drums we store diesel in.They are just as old and well...still hold diesel. If all plastic just became brittle after a few years as you say, everyone would need to purchase a new car every 8-10 years because they would just 'fall apart'.As for reloading...I pay the manufacturer to do that. I don't have the time or the equipment for reloading.I hope I have answered all your question to your satisfaction. If not,TFB...I don't mind a discussion, but this cat and mouse shit is stopping now.

Yeah, I am not sure I would trust a 5 gallon bucket under the constantly changing pressure of soil (especially during freeze / thaw cycles) just because they appear intact above ground. I figure if it is valuable enough to bury then it must be valuable enough to protect.

Do any of you people really have this crazy idea of burying little 5 gallon bucket's of ammunition in the backyard? I really can't see the purpose whatsoever. I can just see it now, honey were running Low on ammo, get the map and go dig up another 5 gallon bucket of it so we can shoot all of these looters trying to get in our house. If your scared of fire, shoot the ones with the Molotov cocktails first !

Not to mention if you actually forget where it was buried. But they will sell thousands of these to suckers who will sell them at their yard sale in a few years for $5.I really doubt a cache the size of a mega-big gulp is going to save your life after you have lost everything else.As far as the guy saying what if 'hi-cap mags are outlawed.Or AR-styled lowers'...well, don't post that shit on FB or youtube and keep your frakkin mouth shut. No one will know you have them.If the ATF are so interested in searching your property,I'm sure they will use metal detectors on your grounds as well. They ain't f'n stupid. You have uppers and .223/5.56 ammo laying around the house, they are going to figure it out.

I agree about using pvc over this. It is proven to be water tight and withstand being buried. You can even get pvc, in all lengths and sizes, free from construction site dumpsters.

Usually if I have to bury someone, I mean something, I want it to decompose.

(sarcasm)

On a side note, that thing better come with stainless screws, otherwise they're rotting.

I think the idea is protection against looters or the mythological "grabbers," not your average smash and grab burglars.

Heck, I figure you just SHOOT the looters. If you have to leave your home, take it with you. I have two old COKE/PEPSI carbonation containers for soft drink dispensers. They seal very well. They would be good for things like this.

Please note I am not in the "bury shit in the back yard camp" but most of those people I have met are thinking of a truly 'without rule if law' event where gangs are tearing houses apart looking for useful items or Obama is ripping 2x4s out of the walls looking for that last brick of 22LR you have hidden.

I think the best thing to do is cut a hole in your basement floor and install it there. Most people would think it was a pump or something and not give it a second thought.

You do have a point there. I figure that in a SHTF scenerio, I will either have my $hit, or be dead. If I am dead, it would be better to leave a 'scorched Earth' home to where no one would be able to use anything. Funny, because Obama is the only person I refuse to call the Pres.... Vladimir Putin has much more of my respect then that clown. Was so happy and extremely shocked to wake up Wednesday morning to find Hill-dog was not the president. Now we can turn this Obamination back into an American nation.

One is better off using PVC with end caps. Seal with favored item.

Other than the size difference, why would someone use this over something like a 5-gallon paint bucket?

0 votes

I used to bury my booze in HS in a 5 gallon HDPE bucket, doesn't work well. They do stacked vertical stress and pressure well but crack (and the lid gives) easily with inward pressure on the sides (I'd imagine when they are full of liquids it is less of a problem). Maybe in softer/sandy soils it would work- but even a heavy rain would crack one in clay soil.

Or even sections of large diameter PVC cut to required lengths and capped.
