The ammo cans are great. The real prize here is that tray tho.

I'd buy this one if it goes under $20 again. https://www.amazon.com/MTM-AC3C-3-Can-Crate-Caliber/dp/B077N55R2N/ref=sr_1_25?dchild=1&qid=1576291039&s=sports-and-fitness&sr=1-25...

They also have a nice tray to put your real 50 cal boxes in

These were a good deal around $20, below $20 is even better.

Perfect clean, dry way to organize and keep your safe clean. I have a large upright gun safe and these fit neatly in the bottom shelves.

Bought 2, I'm really happy with them. Made in USA. The cans close tight and gave rubber gaskets in the lids. The crates are sturdy and stack nicely. They also have homes and slots to band the cans to the crate. For 21 bucks, I'm a fan. Im buying more.

I use mine for storing brass for reloading. Works great for that. The metal cans are for loaded rounds.

The cans hold 500 rds of .556 without an issue and 800 of .22lr. Will buy another one to store 7.62, .45 and 9mm

Got mine today. Thought it would have been bigger but the size is perfect. Very compact and neat. I love it!

Mine arrived from Amazon today. Surprised on how light yet strong these are. Perfect for storing or carrying 60 lbs of ammo.

Just wish it came in black

I use metal cans but my buddy grabbed these and they are actually very nice. Durable and good quality. He has his loaded down with 556, 9mm, and 22lr and they hold the weight just fine. I may grab one or 2 just to have.

These plastic containers are solid. Ive had mtm ammo containers for years they dont crack or break unless under extreme circumstances. I put these in the back of my truck on my way they the range they move and bang all over the place they dont crack.

I agree. Same here. Maybe todd308 just leaves his in the back of his truck or outside in the sun/weather 24/7.

They are the cheapest plastic ammo cans you can get. If you are gentle with them they and don't overload them they will be okay, but these are the thinnest most brittle plastic ammo cans I've used. The Plano, Flambeau are much better/thicker plastic, but for strength/durability in plastic you can't beat the Wells Dry Boxes unless you get metal ammo cans. MTM even gives these a max rating of 15 pounds on their website, so it can hold boxed ammo but loose handgun/rifle ammo is probably going to put it well over it's weight limit.

If you dropped something hard on the lid of these, bumped them into something hard carrying them, or they slide into something hard at a corner I'm pretty sure they would break/crack. They have their place and they are super cheap, but they are not durable, though they are warranted for 5 years, except it costs more to return them for replacement than to just buy a new one.

If you use 20% off gift cards and Active Junky at Cabelas these can be as cheap as $17 shipped.

Pity that plastic gets brittle and weak with age & exposure to sunlight. I suppose these will have adequate longevity as long as they're kept in a cool, dark place?

So you store your ammo outside?

1 vote

Only when I go camping/shooting in the desert. And I prefer to spend my hard-earned FRNs on products with longevity, not something that gets brittle with age as *all* plastics do. Of course, if you treat them with Armor-all, they'll last longer, but then they'll be harder to carry because they'll also get slipperier than greased owl-snot! ;-D

4 MTM ammo cans and a carry crate, this is a great deal. And no it will not hold your metal GI cans. Hay build your own and if you do it well, we might see it on gun.deals someday. LoL

This is a fair deal at this price. Very practical and useful for organized storage or range setup. My only complaint is that it doesn't fit the same size mettle cans in these. Money well spent.

I agree, I contacted them and asked if they would consider making an insert adapter so the end user could use metal cans if they wanted. Or if the end user had better or set up fishing box type of containers that could also be used with or without an adapter, maybe a stepped top for the three containers to allow multiple sized boxs to be used, that would be a nice feature as well

They works well. I like!!

Can I put the metal cans in this crate or just the plastic ones?

They do not fit.

It wouldn't take much for the manufacturer to make a insert adaptor that could accommodate ammo cans to neatly fit into this innovotive
container's three toolbox slots.

Very please with this setup! I use different types of 5.53 and these four compartments allow me to select which one I will use or multiple types of ammo! Quality is very high!

What is 5.53? Is that new??

Typo, I meant to say 5.56! See what happens when you pay no attention to what you are typing!

Gotcha! I'm always interested in new stuff and didn't know if I was missing out on something. I understand about typos. We're all guilty of them. Thank you for your review, too.

pretty close to 500 rounds if not more!

Without verification, one of the reviewers posted:

"9mm = 1,000 / .223 = 500 / 7.63x39 = 400.' (Loose packed).

With boxes, due to extra space and size variance, a lot less.
