Easy to store, clear bucket so you can easily see the contents. Perfect for emergency preparedness, camping, backpacking or at-home use. Based on storage studies conducted over many years, the pouch shelf life -- where the quality of food is nearly indistinguishable from new production -- is at least 10 years from the date of manufacture, if stored properly. For best results, store the pouches unopened in a cool dry area.

Shelf life? so who recently got this and how long are they good for- per the date on the product? Is it "fresh" or already 8 yrs old?
This is not a deal. The same bucket was $44 shipped a few weeks ago.
I called the company and asked about whether they're GMO free or not. Their reply was "We don't ask our ingredients suppliers that." It is what it is, but JUST SAY "NO" TO GMO.
So you want "food" that lasts for a couple of decades in a state nature never intended, vacuum packed in a bucket made of dead dinosaur juice to be Whole Foods quality?
Selective breeding is also genetic modification...its how everything we eat currently came to be...
Not everyone cares about GMOs. I personally think they are delicious.
Watch Penn and Tellers B*S* on youtube about GMO's and get back to me.
I love Mountain House, but...
Here is the "issue" I have with these buckets. All things being equal, you need to count calories. Each of these buckets has a grand total of roughly 8,000 calories, give or take, which under normal conditions will last one (1) person about four (4) days. If you have a family of four, each bucket is essentially good for only ONE day. Sure, you can stretch it and make due with less, for a short time, but if you're exerting yourself during whatever situation you find yourself in where you would need to make use of these that's not always an option or a good idea. Also, with these buckets you need access to clean drinking water and a heat source to cook the foods, neither of which may be available.
A superior alternative would be to stock up on LARGE cans of various foodstuffs, like Costco-sized cans of a variety of different vegetables, Chef Boyardee ravioli / spaghetti / macaroni, beef stews, and whatever else floats your boat. They'll "taste" better, last nearly as long, don't require cooking or water (and the liquid in them can be consumed should your access to fresh water be restricted), and you'll get literally TWENTY TIMES the caloric value from the cans for the same amount of money. For $100 you can feed a family of four for a month in canned goods, where you can only give them the same amount of calories for a few DAYS with any of these emergency food buckets.
Just my $0.02 in a world where pennies are worthless.
Good luck with your cans inside your pack. You will wish you chose differently after a few miles.
These are not emergency buckets. This is backpacking/camping food that has been put in fancy little buckets and then advertised as such. If anybody believes otherwise and has only these for a long term emergency they don't understand how to properly prepare. Some of us buy these because we plan to venture outside at times other than emergencies and this just happens to be conveniently packed to buy a bunch at a time. Imagine that.
Well, considering they're being specifically marketed as "Just in Case" disaster-preparedness food rations, coupled with the fact that the stated 25-year shelf life drops to less than 5 years once the bucket is opened, and it would seem your intended use, while understandable, is definitely *not* what the vast majority of purchasers would buy this product for.
These **ARE** emergency buckets. The selling features even uses these very words: "These are perfect for emergency preparedness, camping, backpacking or at-home use!"
I would also submit that MRE's are a superior alternative for camping -- more calories, and you don't need to build a fire to cook them. The constipation is just an ancillary side benefit ;-)
You're squarely in the minority on this one.
Great price. I ordered 1 bucket of the Essential and 1 bucket of the Classic. It was $89.xx shipped so you can mix and match. Been wanting to try both of these for a while.
Great Deal.
I had to jump on this at this price. With a 25 year shelf life they can sit for a little bit and I don't have to worry about them.
Produced in last year for me
Think Aug 2015
Great deal, individual cost usually brings this to $80, not $50
