Does anyone know if this model natively uses the FLEX system (tool-less stock and fore-end)?
I always recommend this shotgun for folks looking for an all-purpose home defense gun. The 18" barrel with either the stock or pistol grip is excellent for home defense while the 28" barrel is appropriate for hunting or entry-level trap/skeet shooting. You can also get separately a 20" slug barrel for deer hunting in locations where high-powered rifles aren't allowed.
I agree. They used to call this their Security Combo, and I bought one about 25 years ago for $159. In terms of value, it's the best purchase I've ever made on a firearm.
For utility and versatility, a 12 gauge combo like this is hard to beat. I bought a Mossberg "Security Combo" for $159 about 30 years ago. Looks about the same as this except no vent rib on the hunting barrel. Dollar for dollar, I don't think I've ever made a better firearm purchase.
GOOD DEAL!
Remember the Mossberg's has a thumb safety and it's a little harder to reach it with the pistol grip.
The Maverick 88 will have M500 barrels but a easier safety with a pistol grip.
All in all this is a good deal, play with the pistol grip then get serious with the stock! ;)
