If anyone happens to own both this model and Mossy's new Blaze rifle (or maybe only the Blaze rifle) and has any thoughts comparing/contrasting the two please chime in. (Besides the fact the Blaze is a bit lighter and made in America.)

A cursory glance at vids on how to clean the Blaze aren't exactly what I'd call user friendly. The 702 seems much simpler.

The are surprisingly awesome for the price. I paid 107 at Wally World for this gun. I found mags for 10 buck a piece on sale somewhere, can't remember. This gun is light and handy, if you're not planning to trick it out, and just want a good solid 22 for hunting, this probably your best choice. Toting this around the woods is a dream and you won't care too much about dings and scraps. Its accurate, reliable, and once again light, I'm talking air weight light. Gun feels very solid, no issues there at all. This gun also has some of the best iron sights you will find on a standard 22. Slap a cheap scope on it and its a little beast. I actually bough 2 they were so darn cheap.

Ever have to send one in for service for any reason and if so how'd it go?

This is much lighter than a 10/22 so that could be a pro or con. Magazines are expensive and not super easy to find on the 702. The 10/22 feels like the kind of gun that will still be functional for your kids and grandkids if taken care of. The 702 while I don't feel is poorly made I wouldn't be surprised if it last 'only' 10 years (will parts be around?). If it did stop being useful after a decade it would still have been a good deal for the price. An advantage of it being so cheap if it were broken or stolen you aren't out much. I prefer the flush 10 round mags on the 10/22 as opposed to mags that stick out the bottom (I would be afraid to leave a mag in if I were in heavy woods or if it were behind the seat if a pickup). An advantage to the 702 is the lack of aftermarket support is you don't see anyone spending more on sights or stocks than the gun costs like you do on a 10/22. It's like people throwing $4000 rims on a $2000 car...makes no sense in my mind.

I didn't really plan to buy a 10/22 but when Palmetto State Armory has the takedown stainless steel marine version in the waterproof box for $250 I could not pass that up.

Thanks again! Curiosity got the best of me last night and I looked around for mags if I was to buy this rifle. Best deal I found was here and shipping is included for anyone who is interested:

Good point about parts, I'd like to think Mossberg realizes they have a lot of these out there and would keep parts available for a looooong time. Your car analogy,.....completely agree.

I watch a vid last night where the reviewer indicated he believed these were made in Brazil. Do you know if that is in fact the case?

Just received mine, and it is stamped on the barrel as 'Made in Brazil by CBC Model 702'. The other line says 'Imported by Mossberg International, Inc'.

Cool, thanks for the info. Let us know how it runs.

Not sure about the receiver's build location. My understanding if it is branded "Mossberg International" (like the Maverick 88s) it is built in Brazil but I do not recall if the Plinkster brand products fall under that category.

Actually the Maverick brand is separate from the Mossberg Int'L brand.

I've owned two of these and there great little plinkers. Great for young ones too. I've downed many of squirrels with mine. Really reliable and pretty accurate.

$109? Seriously? That's whack!

Wal-Mart also carries the 702 plinkster for right around that price. I don't know if it's the same SKU/UPC or not, and I'm NOT downing this seller. The problem comes that with Wal-Mart, you obviously have to pay sales tax, but no FFL transfer fees, no shipping, etc.

$112 by my last check. Great rifle for the price but I have too many 22's and sold this as never used it. For the price it was very reliable and was not picky at all concerning ammo brand or quality....and I rarely cleaned it.

For a moment forget price, was it reliable or not?

Yes..that is why I said it was "very reliable and was not picky at all concerning ammo brand or quality."

Thank you. You also said, "For the price" and that phrase can mean different things to different people. A new firearm shouldn't get a pass due to being inexpensive. Price should be irrelevant, either it's reliable or it's not. A bargain piece of garbage is still a piece of garbage.

I can see where you are coming from. It is not a 10/22 (but is also half the price) but I would trust my life with it. The 702 is great with 10 round mags but in my experience the 25 rounders are a quick way to high blood pressure problems. This is an accurate, reliable, tough little gun that is well worth 112 dollars.

Thanks a bunch for the input! Besides aftermarket support where do you feel the 10/22 is better?
