I'd love to buy one of these except for the dorky logo. The way the gun is configured is perfect..

Dunno, the pic rail on the bottom of the forearm is useless. For that matter, who would want to add weight to the cycling of the action, let alone the fact that with the abuse optics and such will take from a 12ga, the cycling action would be even harder on them. It seems the redesigned sight towers would be weak compared to the original config, the rear peep isn't even protected like the original and would probably snap off if dropped. The rail on the receiver is nice though. I don't see anything here that you would need that couldn't be added to a original military config A1.

I was mostly speaking of the heavy barrel, receiver-mounted rail & the ghost-ring sights. Hiring a gunsmith to add a rail & ghost-rings to a "base" 590 would (i'm just guessing) add at least $200 to a base 590.. agreed that the forend rails are cheesy & likely to bite the user.. still, this is as close as I've seen to an "ideal" defensive shotgun.. 8 in the tube & 4 in the stock, perhaps a surefire fore-end & a sling (with a bandolier?) would give you a pretty comprehensive "lean-it-on-the-nightstand" solution for when things go bump in the night..

Just did some checking, seems Mossberg isn't producing the true original 590A1 military config anymore (heavy bbl, ghost ring w/blade sights, parkerized, speedfeed). I have one, its a true beast loaded. I picked up a 930SPX a few years ago, its been my go-to since, even with the lesser round count. Give it a look before you go pump.
