8 hours ago it was unavailable, but now it let me order. I've put 400 rds of this through my taurus 738. The only problems were gun related; the first 100 rds showed break-in hangups, then I discovered the gun requires a complete trigger pull. As a clearance price this is a great deal.

Not a big fan of steel cased stuff to start with and if you're stuffing this into a mouse pocket 380.. personally I wouldn't.

Even if for range practice if it malf's a lot you're gonna be starting to doubt your little mouse gun which lets face it they design on the razors edge of functionality to start with.

Pay the extra 4 CPR for brass.. it's doubtful you're shooting it a lot anyway

I personally love steel cased ammo for guns that were designed to be fired 1000's of times but like you so eloquently stated on a .380 they are "design(ed) on the razors edge of functionality" you are pushing your luck. I bet a majority of pocket guns have under 150 rounds through them before they are lost, stolen, or shoved in the back of a gun safe.

Steel jacketed, and steel cased. (Just like most inexpensive steel case ammo, a steel jacketed lead projectile with a copper wash.)
Most of the Monarch stuff is rebranded PPU. (Check headstamp to verify)
I have not used the .380 ammo in question. Have used both 9 and 223 Monarch before with no problems. Also saw a guy with a brand new 380 at the range having troubles with FTE/stuck case using this flavor.

As always, YMMV.

Used the .380-9mm-45-haven't had one FTF. Had no problems. Good enough for plinking.

Why keep bumping this up? It's been sold out since it was first posted.

I snagged this deal a couple weeks ago and ran some thru my Kahr CW380. Besides being a little dirty, no feeding or ejecting issues. Kinda surprised me as I’m still breaking the Kahr in.

I bought this a few weeks ago and I took out a new Taurus TCP to test out to the range last week. Did 50 rounds of WWB with no problems. Tried out this ammo and after about 30 rounds in, every round going forward was FTE. It got so bad, I had to stick a rod in the front barrel to dislodge the ammo after each round was fired.

I've bought Monarch 9mm ammo in the past and it has worked relatively well, but this .380 ammo was messy. I still have about 165 rounds of this stuff, I'll try it out in my LCP and my PPK the next time I'm at the range to see if that makes a difference.

I had these in my cart the other day but decided against it. Yesterday I found 7 boxes of Perfecta .380 at a Walmart in Denver. The last Perfecta I have seen in months at Walmart. $9.97 a box.

I bought the 9mm for training class. My instructor who was ex-military and police officer told me not to use them. They would mess up the gun. And they spark at the range. Stick with copper rounds

The only thing steel is know to do is make your gun a bit dirtier. But if you clean yours like mine, every other shooting, you won't have a problem. As for sparking...are you referring to when it hits the floor? Unless you are making explosives nearby, or have a gas leak or are pumping gas, then I see no problem here. You really shouldn't be shooting in those situations anyway. There is a lot of flame coming out the guns barrel. Not sure why a spark would matter. I am ex-military (Navy) and you can use all the steel you want. I have heard of instructors AND police officers discharging a weapon in training classes and school rooms. They all are not perfect. And they all have different things they will tell you. But you are good to go on steel. Quite a bit cheaper. But for self defense, use JHP rounds. They say 124 grain is best for my 9mm Taurus PT111. Not sure what is best for .380.

Yeah, your "ex-military" (only air force people say they were 'in the military' BTW) is full of shit! They reason gun ranges do not like steel case is they can't resell the casings and if there is steel mixed with their brass casings they loose a lot of money on them. Most of them will let you shoot steel if you ask nicely and promise to pick up your spent cases. If cheap steel will hurt your hardened metal gun....you bought the wrong gun. I have heard the "sparking" argument before but it never made sense to me, the projectile is LEAD regardless of the CASE'S construction. Someone correct me if I am wrong on the 3rd part.

My local indoor range caught fire in the rifle lanes. The rubber backstop caught fire from too many people shooting rounds that had metal other than copper and lead in the, steel core and bi metal rounds.

Simply banning steel case ammo would not prevent all the other types of brass cased projectiles.

Regardless of the case material, they now check all ammo with a magnetic, if it sticks its not allowed due to the risk of sparks. Their is your proof

Again, STEEL CASE ammo generally uses LEAD projectiles (non magnetic) therefore would actually be safe per the 'sparking projectile' fear. Banning steel cases ammo is counterproductive if your purpose is to reduce the risk of fires downrange.

BTW, you should look up the definition of the word "proof."

I can think of only (1) manufacturer that uses steel cases on a 'true' copper jacketed lead projectile. (Hornady - Steel Match)
Most inexpensive steel CASED ammo also has a steel JACKETED lead projectile with a micro-layer of copper on the outside. (Copper wash)
A magnet is the 'tried and true' method of detecting steel jacketed projectiles, either by themselves, or when seated in a steel(or brass) case.

OK I almost started a fire with both brass cased ammunition and steel cased ammunition. They were hotter then hell when they went down my shirt. I agree and would like to see how a steel cased load would start a fire on the firearm line, as this is where the steel or brass case would land. What starts fires are the sparks that come from the projectile hitting a hard object, no matter how far the flash from the barrel that comes out from unburnt powder. Not taking anyone's side but a interesting read, slightly off target here, but related, shooting a rifle at steel targets.

http://wildfiretoday.com/2013/12/05/researchers-study-ignition-of-wildfires-by-rifle-bullets/...

Again steel cased ammunition won't start a fire as the case stays at the firing line. Finding steel projectile cartridges might be beyond some ranges reasonable knowledge, as the case is magnetic and they might not want to use a magnet on the end of the projectile, or using a magnet to separate steel and brass cases.

Look up proof? Look up the final report of the BFD in the investigation. Other than the winchester and hornady steel cased ammo, what steel cased ammo doesn't use a bi metal bullet? Tulammo, wolf, brown bear, hot shot, monarch........they all stick and are bi metal bullets. Which brand don't?

I do know Tula has bi-metal bullets but they also have lead bullets. I bought a case of the 223 Monarch and they slso appear to be solid lead. No magnetic attraction from the projectile.

I would do a little more research before commenting, bi metal isn't in the lead core.....

That WOOHOO idiot just never shuts up, knows EVERYTHING about guns/ammo, and is always correct. No use arguing further with it. Even though you say you are done, it will try to bait you into further arguments. I have stopped reading its replies to me. Really pisses it off. It can't get the last word in! HA! I am glad this site puts 'Submitted by WooHoo2You' on the top of its posts. Save me time not reading its BULL$HIT all day.

Stalk much? Great job “ignoring” me….I really wish you would BTW.
Now back to the subject the adults were discussing; Is a steel cased bullet without a “bi-metal” projectile (solid lead round) cause fires more often than a equivalent round with a brass case? That is all I am concerned with.

This guy does the same shit to me. Total fuckin stalker. He post 20 times a day looking for someone to fight with. Report his ass so we can be done with him.

Bi metal bullets are solid lead core, usually jacket with something like zink or tin a have a very thin layer of copper on them

I had no problems with it feeding my Bersa Thunder & my Bodyguard. 380. Yes, kinda dirty. Similar to Tula. I clean my gun after every outing anyway.
Cool thing was it(200 bulk pack) came in this awesome little black molle pouch! The 9mm's did too! Holds 4 stacks of 50. Even velcro on the front molle for your patches. Fairly well made too. Easily worth 5+bucks.

Academy gives your ammo purchase records to the government. Don't buy from anti-Second companies. Take your money to Cabela's.

Saying we don't have to worry about government invade our privacy, because we have nothing wrong to hide, is just like saying we don't need free-speech rights, because we have nothing to say
