Ordered a can awhile back, received an Aug '81 batch. Good, tight seal on can, checked a few boxes - a bit tarnished/dull (to be expected), but great shape. Shot clean, no comparison to steel stuff IMHO. Was impressed enough I just ordered another can, using another discount code. Hard to beat at this price - brass cased ammo within pennies of steel stuff.

Just bought some 2 weeks ago, date was Jan 1982. No problems with this ammo. Slighter duller brass cosmetically versus some I got dated 1986 from another seller. Used to be a member a long time ago, not a huge fan of SG these days, but free 30 day membership and free shipping convinced me to try them once again and it turned out to be a good experience for me.

About 15-20 in every 40rd box I had cases that were not even touching the bullet

I ordered it after reading the comments here. I received it friday 03/02 and this ammo is the worst I have ever purchased. I already emailed Sportsmansguide for a refund, I would be glad to provide photographs etc, but I think its unlikely they will do it. I can't even sell this ammo because it's in such poor shape. It is extremely dirty, and over half of my rounds had rust, holes and dents in the brass. Benefit of the doubt, maybe mine is the only one that this happened to, but this is a hard NO for me ever again. I am not even gonna take a chance with it in my SCAR. I'm interested to see how this plays out with Sportsmansguide, because of their no return on ammo policy. I'll update later.

My can was good, but this review makes me a little leery. I only got the one can, and it's all been in good shape, rounds are as expected, no FTFs, and the seal was good. Hopefully just a bad batch.

Down voted by sasquatch and wactownjb. What part of his post did you not like? What a bunch of assholes. Glad they took the ammo back. It is always great to get deals on this site but you shouldn't have to pay for crap ammo that will damage your gun or blow up in its package.

UPDATE* SG did offer me a complete refund, and paid for shipping back to MINN after I sent them photos of the ammunition. I am glad to get a refund, it seems other people have had better luck with this ammo, unfortunately I was not one of them. To be fair to SG, it is possible I received an extremely poor batch that might have been exposed to the elements and SG didn't realize it before shipping. A poster asked about Month and year. I didn't keep that information, but I do remember it being 1978, I hope this helps a little bit.

Maybe you can share the manufacturing year and month of the ammo you received. I have ordered over 4k rounds of this surplus ammo from SG, most are 1979 to 1984, and none of those ammo failed me. I only had problem with my SCAR because it had a weak hammer spring, after I upgraded the hammer spring with a Beretta 92FS factory hammer spring, it shoots like a champion

You have a $3000 gun and you're bitching about buying 1970s malaysian berden-primed surplus ammo? Spend the extra $10 and buy better ammo, or sell a gun you can't afford to shoot.

It doesn't matter what gun he has. A $10,000 one or a $50 one. If I have a $60,000 car and fill it at a gas station, I expect the G. D. gas to work and not be half water. It doesn't matter if I paid $2.50 a gallon for it. And it wouldn't matter if I had a $1000 car. Same F'n thing. He bought ammo and it was shit. End of story. Where in his post did he say he couldn't afford ammo for his gun? Are you blind or just a fuck'n jerk?

Since I'm not blind, that means I'm a jerk!

Yes it does matter. I shoot crap ammo out of my crap guns. And premium ammo out of my premium guns. I do expect better ammo for better prices (I actually reload to make sure I get the best). This is the absolute cheapest ammo out there, I would never shoot it in my nice guns (but I do shoot it in my AR10). Bitching about cheap ass ammo and an expensive gun means champagne taste on a beer budget. Stick with beer.

To do a better job on an analogy for mouth breather below, I wouldn't buy a Ferrari and then put korean surplus tires on it.

'Since I'm not blind, that means I'm a jerk!'...glad you figured that out on your own.

If I was stupid enough to go buy an Arsenal Firearms AF2011-A1 (which I am not) I wouldn't go out and find the most expensive and exotic 45 ammo I could to shoot out it. I would use the same ammo as my Glock 21 or my Springfield XD mod 2.

You are correct...I wouldn't buy a Ferrari and then put Korean tires on it. I would leave the original OEM tires on it. Why would I take them off??? Makes no sense. FYI...Hankook Tire makes some very nice sports tires. Not sure where you are getting your tire info from. Better come up with a better comparison...If this was a USED Ferrari, then yes, I probably would buy a nice set of Hankook Tires for it...if a used Ferrari was all I could afford. I wouldn't go buy a $25K car and put a $7K set of tires on it. Nope. But I would still put the $2.50 a gallon gas in it.

When you first buy a gun, you go buy ammo for it (if you do not have that type of ammo for it at home). When you first buy a car, tires are the last thing you are thinking about. Gas is pretty much at the top of the list.

And I am not sure where champagne and beer come into this. Maybe you have been drinking...

Ok I guess i'll take the bait and respond to your asinine comment. $10 more won't buy me premium ammunition, the reviews I read were strong on this ammo and many people have ran it through their scars without a problem. The ammo I received was in poor shape, as I previously stated. I posted to let anyone else considering it to rethink to save themselves the headache. I didn't realize me buying ammo with good reviews that's cheap, translates into me not being able to afford to feed my rifles with the best ammunition on the market./sarcasm

Assholes will be assholes. My .450 Bushmaster rifle takes ammo that is around $1.25-$1.50 a round. I would love to get it a lot cheaper if I could. Just as long as it was good ammo. This is the point of this site. DEALS.

This stuff shoots fine. I shot an entire can with no problems. It's berdan primed so pick up your brass and throw it away so reloaders won't get trashed decappers

Make sure you have a chrome lined barrel, I am pretty sure this stuff is corrosive.

SG website definitively states it is NOT corrosive. Take it FWIW.

Bought this stuff last week with a 15% off coupon knocking it down around 33 cents per round. Never thought I'd see 7.62x51mm this affordable. It has been well preserved in ammo cans making the stuff look as if its straight off the factory floor.

Obviously from someone who hasn't a clue. Try it before you bash it.. .it's good well made ammo. As good as any other bargain round available.

Been Backordered. Same as the 540 round box, just a bit cheaper. By the way, I have been shooting the Malaysian stuff for a couple weeks. Pleasantly surprised. Couldn't tell a difference from PPU rounds. Don't listen to the naysayers that have no clue!!

Surprisingly GREAT quality ammo with nicely sealed containers that have several seals still intact and ammo looks brand spankin NEW! I was a bit cautious when ordering super old ammo but this stuff groups very well and is cheaper than steel cased in most cases...
