Cabela's price on these is actually $16.99.

Not according to the Cabelas website http://tinyurl.com/njjnzu8

The 20s are 16.99, the 40s are 19.99.

According to the receipt I have and the display in the stores, they're $16.99 for the 40s.

I second this. Just bought a pile of the 40rd there yesterday and though the sign said 19.99 at my store, they were 16.99 when they rang up.

Dang. Did either of you buy me a couple?

I ordered one online, yesterday, and they charged me 19.99 + tax, etc. The good news is, I'm picking it up at the store so if they have them there for 16.99, I should be able to get a credit.

The first thing I bought for home defense was a shotgun... that holds eight, not two. Then I bought an LR-308, because I wanted something bigger than a 5.56. Now I have an AR... and I want just one of these because I can. But I'll wait and pay retail in a local Mom and Pop shop before paying $8 to have it dropped in an envelope and mailed to me. Which reminds me... I need to call 'Mom and Pop'. Still waiting on those 25rd 7.62 PMAGs to show up.

If you want to protect yourself, get a double-barrel shotgun. You don't need an AR-15. It's harder to aim, it's harder to use, and in fact, you don't need •40• rounds to protect yourself. Buy a shotgun. Buy a shotgun. - LOL!

Thanks Joe Biden!

Yes a Shotgun is great for self defense. I think most are buying these for range duty though.
Problem is if you bench shoot, they are too long. I just bought some 20's for that reason.
As RimfirePlinker says below, I think these are a novelty....unless you're at war.

Eh, I keep one in my bedside 10.5" AR that has a light on the rail. If someone kicks in my door at 3AM and I grab the gun, I won't have any reloads. I doubt I'd need 40 or even 30 rounds, but I'm not going to find out. Don't know how many rounds I'll need, but I'll know I'm going to have 40.

I say no deal.... for an extra $2 bucks I could get two 30 rounders...but then again, I'm only messing around. Although these won't fit right in your mag pouches either. Just something to think about.

Can't wait to try one out though. I saw their new steel sites advertised in a magazine yesterday. Nice!

I have 10 of these from a product eval. They fit well enough actually in my First Spear Rig. Better than a Surfire 60. If anything I think they are easier to remove from the pouch because more is exposed to grab onto, and you wont need a Ranger Plate. ...so you save that space too. The new Steel MBUS are bad ass!!

I would like to add one to my collection for shiz and giggles, along with an M3 10rd & 20rd, but yeah, it's a novelty in the age of gun control fascists. I just hope that it functions as well flawlessly as the 30rd'ers.
