I got one this summer and sold it. The XL was tight, smashing my forehead. Heavier than expected too. Spend the extra $100 and get the Armor Source. American made, better protection and much lighter.

Spend 50 more and get a Ceradyne mil spec helmet on Botach. Or don't and get a used ACH helmet on ebay or somewhere.

I'm probably going to get beat up for this, but I looked into the company a bit and found that they are not a Chinese company but actually based here in the U.S. Well, kind of. California. Moving to cover now. https://www.longfri.com/about-longfri/...

It's Chinese AF, says so right inside the helmet. Also whoever writes for them isn't a native English speaker either; they don't know how to use plurals. That being said, I have one in XL and the straps are absolute shit. I'm honestly tempted to shoot it in the back of the head and see how it does but... ehh

SmallFri? Wouldn't be surprised if everything they have runs small [the "Asian inch" problem.]

You can find great deals on the PROVEN ach-mich helmets. I have seen those stop rounds, i wouldn't trust these. My helmet was issued and I think that anyone that really needs one would have one issued by the military or their LE department. These are for mall ninjas. If its just for hog hunting with your pvs14 then why put up with the weight of a ballistic helmet? Just use a counterweight.

3a is just pistol rounds. What are real ACH & MICH bash hats rated for? Something better, I should think...

Just because it stops a Bullet doesn’t mean it’s a solid piece of PPE there’s so much test data on this. You get hit your going vegetable mode you’ve been warned

Imported chicom helmets yes these Stop bullets but as far as deformation testing and blunt force trauma which is what kills you these do not. Get a ceradyne and be safe. I’m tired of imported Chinese helmets

The comments alone makes this post worth checking out. Hilarious, especially the "instant operator" ones.

Last month I was coming home from abroad and had a connecting flight at JFK. I always wear a tan hat with a embroidered sewn in Flag with a Keisler Defense logo on the side.

A State trooper who was watching passengers was obviously amusing himself and making fun of tacti-cool wanna-be warriors.

He facetiously told me he liked my tacti-cool hat. He didn't know I was a veteran, I told him I lost my favorite hat in Iraq. I told him if he see's any squirly looking Iraqi's wearing my hat, I want it back.

He laughed and thanked me for my service, I told him, your a LEO in New Jersey with knuckleheads from 80 nations passing you daily.

---Thank You for your service.

He smiled and I went on my way. Wanted to get out of JFK, not my favorite airport.

Just picked one up. I have both a Team Wendy Ballistic and Ops Core Ballistic Maritime to compare it to. From the photos, the padding and worm gear don't look nearly as comfortable, but the padding can be easily replaced with some TW pads for less than $50. Supposedly these "Longfri" brain buckets have been tested by Chesapeake to NIJ standards. I'm tempted to put this thing on a mannequin and put a 10mm into it from 5-feet, but not sure if I want to burn $250. I'm also concerned about how secure the NV shroud is. Plastic shrouds wear pretty quickly. If my NODs fall off, I'll probably shoot it up just out of spite.

Always hesitate when it is Life Line items and a good deal from Botach. The sorted past of that company proceeds it self.

What do you mean? Have they been accused of selling fake / subpar body armor or other such items?

Botach's sordid past was just one of being extremely flaky with truly horrific customer service. I don't know if they shucked some of the major players or if it is just due to moving out from behind the Granola Curtain, but they seem to have cleaned up their act A LOT recently. I don't have any knowledge about this product, but I learned a long time ago to ignore the manufacturer's advertising persiflage being uncritically repeated by a vendor. [For particularly egregious examples, read any of OpticalPlanet's product descriptions: they don't even bother correcting the grammatical mistakes in the Engrish ad copy!] ::)

Botach is a mess. I have been having a horrible time just getting them to ship my simple XDM magazine order. First, they said they couldn’t ship because I’m in a state with magazine restrictions (which I’m not, then they decided they needed my FOID but they still haven’t shipped the mags even after I sent that. It’s been a solid month now.

How does the LongFri compare ballistically to Arby's Curly Fries?

3 votes
0 votes

Quite well, actually: it's difficult to throw Arby's curly fries any reasonable distance at all [low mass, high drag, poor rigidity] but you can really wing this thing across the room! Heck, I bet I could throw it all the way across the street, maybe with enough retained inertia to break a window! It's not as useful a missile as a (free for the finding) rock, but it's way better than those dang curly fries: they're utterly useless for self defence! Or did you have a different kind of ballistics in mind?

How does it compare to ACH? Bought a new ACH with cover and pads at a lower price point. It does not have the mounting points though.

For the price, can't beat it. Good for a backup or for a trunk dweller. Only black is available unless you have a XL watermelon noggin.

Like most clothing products sourced from SE Asia, I suspect this suffers from the "Asian inch" problem & is ~ 85% of the correct size, so only a M/L in the real world? And what better color than black could there be for one of these? Black coordinates with your party dress no matter the color! ;-)
