Less than 20" wide? I guess they expect the users to be trying to fit thru some pretty narrow doorways...

$1199 for $30 worth of materials. Sure thing.

$30 lmao.. its obvious you dont know how much Polyethylene mat'l cost, let alone the cost to press it. you couldn't even get it coated in Line-x for $30.

Yes and bread costs quite exponentially more than the flour and yeast it contains but I bet you pay extra for the preparation portion...

Nevertheless, for the $50 in materials and $20 in Chinese slave labor, they'd sell 5x as many of these @ $500 as they do at the "$999 on sale" price. They're *way* out there on the far side of the Laffer curve for maximizing their profits. Give it time... But I *do* wish Botach would tell their supplier they've got to start making all their consumer grade armor in American adult sizes; how many Asians are going to buy them?

Laffer curve? Doesn't that have more to do with taxes?

I do agree with the American vs Asian sizes. Sometimes you have ZERO clue what to order. Are you ordering 2XXL Asian or XS American?

The premise remains the same: there is an optimal price where profit will be maximized; they're far on the downhill slope of the curve. If they drop the price by half, they'll sell more than 2x as many, and increase their profits. But it's still too narrow by at least 4"...

"If they drop the price by half, they'll sell more than 2x as many"

And do double the work for pretty much the same profit. Let's pretend you are a house painter: would you want to paint one house for $1000 or two houses for $500 each?

They're not doing these hand-layup; their incremental costs for making 2X as many is less than the cost for the first quantity X; they still make more $. [Google "economies of scale" for more info.] Just like DVD prices, you'll see the price on these drop as the early adopters pay thru the nose for theirs, then as demand declines, they'll lower the price and sell through as the various levels of price sensitivity decline. But they're still 4" too narrow...
