Lifestraw filters only go down to 0.2 microns, Sawyer goes down to 0.1

Lifestraw filters well as do many others I have used backpacking. The problem is that Lifestraw doesn't really work for filling up water bottles, so you're unable to drink as you move from source to source. A big limitation. For the same weight and size, look at the Sawyer squeeze filters. Much more useful, especially for a group.

Yep, no reason to not get a Sawyer. Used one for four years of backpacking, about time to get another!

LOL nice pic. You still wouldn’t catch me sucking swamp water even if it meant survival, at least not without boiling it first.

It is actually more effective than boiling water. Water is only safe if it has been boiled for 10-12 minutes. Most people dont even boil it half that long before drinking it, thus this would be safer unless you plan to boil it for 10+ minutes. AND a big problem with this is water lose due to evaporation, and fuel use. These are marketed towards backpackers, not really your average person, but I still recommend these to people over boiling simply because they are more effecient.

I think he meant boiling first then use this filter on boiled water. I probably will do the same if boiling is not difficult. However, I agree with the comment that squeeze filter is much better, so I wouldn't even consider this one.
