A good shopper can find deals on the best ceramic plates made. Last year I bought a Bulletproofme.com Ultra-light eSAPI 11 by 14 XL NSN 8470-01-520-7382 for $125, brand new on Ebay of all places. It had paperwork that showed it was acquired privately, in fact it had the Bulletproofme receipt for $1100.

It was brand new, and my neighbor is a radiologist, so I had it x-rayed to make sure it was perfect. It's a $1100 plate for 1/10th that cost and I don't have to worry about spall ripping my neck open like metal plates suffer.

A month before that, I bought two Bulletproofme Helmets with the IIIA faceplate, not the cheap shit from China, but the one thats professionally mounted to the helmet. Its a $750+ Helmet, bought two for for roughly $230 for both. Still factory sealed with the plastic wrap still protecting the face-shield. Bought it from a retired officer that never used it.

Sold one, and couldnt bring myself to sell the last one. SWAT teams use these but it's like having a 10lb dumbbell strapped to your head. Eventually I'll end up shooting at it to see just how ballistic it really is.

My point to all this is that with a little persistence and looking, one can find good deals on superior ceramic armor. I'm not suggesting people use Ebay to buy ceramic armor, but locally if your eyes are open, sometimes good deals present themselves.

Not a fan of steel plates with or without coatings, they are hugely dangerous to the wearer and those next to the wearer. I've seen the damage they can cause, and I've shot plenty of them in tests to determine the spall values. Steel armor has one benefit, it's cheap.

Glad to see these bigger/ and still within a good price point. Next step, Roman Centurion style Breast plate! Keep in mind, the carrier is just nylon strapping and a pouch, if it is not rated itself; so then no edge/ side/ shoulder/ kidney protection... why there is a difference between a carrier and an OTV/PASGT FLAK VEST etc... to include, add the side plates, neck, groiner, and small of the back add-on pieces.
