These are heavy! And single curve

Remember when LAPG was price gouging because of covid? Me too. Just a friendly reminder.

They don't put country of origin on the product or its packaging, leaving you guessing if its made in China, rebranded US, or if you're unwittingly funneling money to Iran. US laws on this exist for a reason.

ceramic vs steel, which is better (more practical) for home defense? I notice there is a potential scattering damage when bullet collapse on steel. Is this one better than products from e.g., AR500? Thanks!

Remember the guy who took on a bunch of Texas cops ? He has a AR500 plate. The spall shredded his neck.

Did he pay the extra 20 something bucks for the spall protection version? I don’t use steel, just curious.

The "spall coating" only holds up for a few shots in the various tests viewable on YT. Which should be enough if you're not making a target of yourself. But ultimately, the weight of the steel plates and the spalling issue makes them unattractive at the prices asked. Not saying that they're not cheaper than the alternative (like this one), just that they're not *enough* cheaper...

Steel generally either pierces or it doesn't, but the coating on it can only handle a limited amount of spall before it fails [from online vids where they tested it, usually ~ 5rds.] Bonus: no or extremely limited backside deformation [ie: the punch of the absorbed round is spread out over the area of the entire plate.] Downside: heavy. Ceramic can take multiple hits as long as they're spread out; too close together and the round that goes thru an area that's already been compromised may not be stopped. Bonus: ~2/3 the wt. of an equivalent steel plate. Downside: backside deformation can possibly kill you as effectively as the actual bullet, depending on the projectile fired at you. [You really have to see the testing vids out there to see what I mean.] Even if it doesn't kill you, sufficient backside deformation WILL take you out of the fight. Still have no idea why nobody had made a true hybrid where they wrap a thinner steel plate in the PE to contain the spall and then put a thin layer of ceramic over the front to make up for the thinness of the steel plate used. Am I the only one seeing this obvious solution? If you ended up w/ a plate that weighed 3/4 of the steel plate w/o any of the spall hazard and a small fraction of the backface deformation of the C/PE plates, it's a win all around AFAIC...

Ceramic plates have been a standard for decades and work well, but they often have a limited shelf life of 5yrs, most steel plates are 20yrs. Steel is usually heavier, ceramic is usually thicker. I run lightweight 6.5lb lvl 3+ steel plates with lvl 3a soft armor behind them, and they ride in heavy duty plate bags with HDPE inserts in front to mitigate that dreadful spalling/fragmenting. Not the best setup but made in America.

You should put the Kevlar over the steel, to catch spall.

can you provide link for HDPE inserts?

Damn, I just noticed TexAG98's comment. Did you order these from LAPG? My order was placed on September 9, 2020 and I just finally got a shipping notification this morning. Tracking link was dead so, I'm still not certain that the order is on the way.

These are rebranded RMA 1155 plates. 1" thick and 8.3 pounds each. Single curve. Definitely not flexible or comfortable, but they will protect your vitals.

No these are not rebranded RMA plates at least not as of recent. They are about 1.5 lbs lighter and made in China. Slightly more comfortable than the 1155s also.

Too about 8 days To get. Very nice.

Lighter than ar500 but not by too much. Good sturdy looking plates have no complaints. Shipping was fast with no issues. They are on the thicker side so if you have a small or compact plate carrier they may fit too snuggley (ar500 veritas carrier). Overall good feeling solid plates as long as they live up to the videos on youtube :D

Does this place actually ship? Or follow Btach and just create a label?

I got mine in a week. They are good even with the high volume. I bought mine in October.

It says over 300 available, but they are probably drop shipped from china or elsewhere, that might be why it often takes so long.

Ordered a set on October 14th and I am still waiting for these to be shipped. LAPG has done this in the past to me. Should have listened to my gut and not bothered. WTF!!

Ordered yesterday. Got shipping notification today.
I love that you're complaining about not having received your body armor though. Thank God you haven't needed it. Lol! Don't worry. It'll soon be safe and sound in your closet.

I also ordered mine on October 14th and it still awaiting fulfillment.. I have been talking with a few others I know who placed their orders around October 10th and they just got theres yesterday and today. Maybe they're just extremely busy with orders. This is my first time trying out LAPG so I'm hoping it goes smoothly. I will report back when I get an update.

Thanks for the coupon code. Most people don't realize how much they can save by taking a little time to use coupons, and rebates. I passed on these plates due to the 5 year shelf life, and ended up ordering a set of United Shield Int., plus a carrier. My order initially totaled a little over $330. before tax, and shipping. I ended up saving $50 on plates/ carrier, $10 on shipping, and a little less than $5 on tax. I'll also get more than $25 rebate from Active Junky and credit card rewards. That's a total of $90 in savings. I owe you a beer.

Was wondering how they could make lvl 4 armor so cheap. Its ceramic armor. I've heard horror stories of ceramic armor being dropped and it shattering.. I'll stick to my steel plates I believe

Use these in my plate carrier on the ambulance. Quality seems good and the MrGunsNgear testing pushed me to buy them as our issued vests are lvl 3

Not sure if the crosshairs target is a good idea to put on this. Give bad guys a nice target to aim at

Definitely a good idea lol I'd rather the bad guys aim for the armor. I just hope their marksmanship is up to par.

In case you did no know, you suppose to put it in a plate carrier. No one wears it on outside. LOL.
